第二课时在复习课文内容和语言的基础上,引导学生归纳总结本课的语法——简单句和并列复合句,关注他们的基本结构,理解and 、or 、but 、so 的表意功能和语用特征,在不同语境下进行多层次的练习。

最后运用本课所学词汇及语法功能,结合本课话题,描述一个自己喜欢的动物。

Lesson 17 Interesting Animals
本课的教学设计分为两课时。

第一课时在复习、学习身体部位名称(多为二级词汇,主要为复习)的基础上,侧重对阅读文本的理解,
引导学生通过阅读获取动物体貌的基本信息,获取并整理这两种动物的特殊性。

在阅读活动中,培养学生获取关键信息和总结信息的阅读策略,体验连词and 、or 在简单句中,以及and 、so 、but 在并列复合句中的用法,通过不断内化信息和语言,最后进行基于阅读文本信息的语言输出活动。

第二课时在复习课文内容和语言的基础上,引导学生归纳总结本课的语法——简单句和并列复合句,关注他们的基本结构,理解and 、or 、but 、so 的表意功能和语用特征,在不同语境下进行多层次的练习。

最后运用本课所学词汇及语法功能,结合本课话题,描述一个自己喜欢的动物。

Step 1. Brainstorm
T shows a picture of a giraffe and tells about its long neck. Ÿ T asks Ss what animals they think are interesting.
Step 2. Warm-up
T shows some pictures of animals and asks Ss to name the body parts. If they don’t know, T tells them the names of the body parts. Ss read the words after T. Ÿ T shows pictures of a penguin and a giraffe. Ss tell their knowledge about two animals. (Ex. 1) For Example:Penguins have short legs. They walk very slowly.
Step 3. Pre-reading
1.Play the recording of the dialogue and ask the students to read aloud with the speaker.
2.Ss look at the table, and guess which animal the children may choose.
3.Ss can write down their own guesses in the table.
Step 4. Pre-reading
T asks Ss to try to guess the answers to the following questions: Are penguins bird or fish? Penguins swim 15 / 25 / 35 miles an hour. Do giraffes spread their front legs to drink water? Can giraffes run for a long time? Ÿ T helps Ss learn the word “spread”.
Step 5. Reading.
1.Ss read the text quickly and find the answers for the four questions. Ÿ T calls back the answers from the class. T discusses with Ss about their understanding of the difficult sentence: They have to spread their front legs wide and bend their necks, so their heads can reach the ground.
2. Ss read the text carefully, and find the information about the body parts of the two animals to complete the table. (Ex. 2) T checks answers in class. Ss describe penguins and giraffes with the help of the table in pairs.
3.Ss discuss the structure of the text. T helps Ss understand that the texts are in two parts: appearance and interesting features. Ss read the second part of penguins carefully. T works with the Ss to summarise the features of penguins. Ss work in pairs, read the second part of giraffes and summarise the features of giraffes. T checks answers in class.
Step 6 Group talk:
Ss complete the sentences with and, or, but, and so. (Ex. 5)
Ss check answers in pairs and then check answers in class. Ss join two sentences with and, or, but and so. (Ex. 6)Ss check answers in pairs and then check answers in class.
Step 7 Homework
