摘要：美国人的信条是：尽可能不欠别人，也不让别人欠他们；在交友上，他们
喜欢掌握主动权。从美国人的信条里可以透露出美国人的个人主义，理解美国个
人主义的根源、含义、体现等等，对于了解美国文化有很重要的意义。

美国人的信条是：尽可能不欠别人，也不让别人欠他们；在交友上，他们喜欢掌握主动
权。他们讲究的是一个人做自己的事，不喜欢别人过多的干预，并且自己也不会主动去干预
别人，可以说是喜欢独来独往，由此可以看出他们美国人所奉行的个人主义（Individualism）。
美国加利福尼亚大学社会学家罗伯特·贝拉赫对个人主义是这样评价的：“个人主义是美国
文化的真正核心。”美国人最爱谈的“人权”(human rights)也是基于个人主义思想：个人权
利是至高无上的，政府的目的在于保护个人权利、实现个人利益，政府的建立必须基于社会
成员的同意，政治权威的合法性来自于公民的同意。[1]
一、个人主义的涵义
《不列颠百科全书》 中的个人主义定义是：“个人主义是一种典型的西方资本主义政治
和社会哲学，„„个人主义是一种价值体系，一种人性理论，也是对某些政治、经济、社会
和宗教的一种总的态度、倾向和信念。[2]
二、个人主义的根源
个人主义 ( individualism )是法国历史学家和政治家亚力克西· 德· 托克维尔(Alexis de
Tocqueville，1805 —1859)创造的术语，指竭力强调个人自由、不受外来约束的一种政治和
社会哲学，包括利己主义的成分。
三、个人主义在美国的体现
有一句古老的谚语叫做自助者天助，英语原文是：God helps those who help them- selves。
美国文化中，与 “自我” ( self , ego)相关的观念可以说是根深蒂固、无所不在的。因而，
美语中自然就出现了许多表达自我意识 ( the consciousness of self ) 的词语。如：
selfabsorption (自我专注)，selfadmirati- on (自我赞赏)，egocent ric (自我中心的，个人主义的)，
egotrip (追名逐利；自我表现)等。美语中有大量的词项(lexical term)表达与自我价值、自身
利益、个人自由、自我支配和自我约束相关的观念，这正是个人主义价值体系的核心内容[3]。
除了在英语语言本身的体现外，在日常生活的方方面面都体现着美国人这种个人主义。
作者虽然没有到过美国生活，但是看过不少的美剧，从中对美国人的生活方式也有一定的了
解。
美剧《老友记》（Friends）是二十世纪九十年代开始热播的著名情景喜剧。在这部收视
率极高的剧中，这种自我依靠，自我努力，自我实现的例子屡见不鲜。莫妮卡（Monika）
算是六个人中凝聚所有人的一个核心人物。她从小就生活在哥哥罗斯（Rose）的阴影下，因
为哥哥各方面都很优秀，导致父母对她一直不怎么疼爱，并且自己小时候非常的胖，更加导
致了她的自卑。但是，长大后的莫妮卡不仅仅是靠自身努力成功减肥，并且成为了一个优秀
的厨师，并且一步一步的赢得了父母的尊重与喜爱。富家女瑞秋（Rachel）在逃离了婚礼之
后，加入了莫妮卡五人当中。刚开始，她只是一个含着金汤匙长大的漂亮女孩，甚至不会洗
衣服，不会做饭，就连基本的生活来源都没有。就是这样的一个女孩，在离开家之后，毅然
剪断了父亲给她的信用卡，从一个酒吧的服务生开始做起，慢慢在时尚界找到了立足之地。
另外，乔伊（Joey）也是一个不得不说的人物。他是一个没有接受过高等教育的人，一开始
的收入来自于在片场跑跑龙套，不过经过一番坚持与努力之后，却成为了肥皂剧明星。罗斯、
钱德（Chandler）、菲比（Phoebe）无一不是生活中的小人物，但是都是依靠自身的努力，
实现了自我价值的体现。
另外，还有绝望的主妇（desperated housewives）。其中的角色，无论是失去丈夫的，失
去妻子的，甚至是一个只能靠自己的未成年的少年，都能靠着自己永不放弃的精神，坚持到
底的毅力，克服生活中的种种困难，过上幸福美好的生活。
四、个人主义的保障
美国人能够这样奉行个人主义，能够做到求己不求人，很大程度上和美国的保障制度关
系很大。
美国有强有力的法律保障。美国是一个法制国家，作为一个世界强国，其法制相比于其
他国家来说更加的完善。法律保障了人们的权利，保障了人们的自由，只要在法律允许的范
围内，公民可以自由实行自己的正当权利。
美国有完善的医疗保障。美国对于公民的福利保障制度是非常完善的，只要有了完善的
保险，在生病的时候，只需要花极少的钱，甚至不花钱就可以得到最前沿的治疗方法。
美国有完善的教育保障。美国的教育制度也是相当系统的，因此美国也是一个文盲率极
低的国家。公民在享受完义务教育之后，可以根据自身条件申请相应的大学继续深造。
其他方面，美国在对于企业之间的竞争、个人创业方面都有让人放心的保障，完全可以
让人在不用接受别人太多的帮助的情况下，靠着自己的努力实现自己梦想，这也就是美国梦
的由来。
五、个人的理解
美国是一个民主的国家，公民来自于世界各地，可以说是世界上有着最复杂民族的国
家。各个民族之间能够和平相处，共同生活、发展与提高，与其个人主义的普及是分不开的。
作为新一代的中国年轻人，对于美国所奉行的个人主义，应该取其精华，吸收其中个人努力
的方面，应用在生活中的方方面面，为实现自己的理想而奋斗，为中国的强大而努力。

美国手语论文：浅议中美手语文化的异同摘要：象似性主要是指语言形式与经验方式、认知规律与概念结构之间的对应关系，由于不同民族、不同人群的认知既有相似之处也存在较大差异，因此反应在不同民族的语言之间也产生了诸多异同。
对比有声语言，手语中所体现的语言的象似性则更加直观，更加生动。
本文从象似性角度比较分析了美国手语和中国手语的异同，提出了中美手语比较的意义。
关键词：美国手语、象似性、中国手语、意向和图式化、手势模式一、语言的象似性概述所谓象似性，就是“事物之间相像的地方”（束定芳，2000）。
二十世纪七十年代末，认知语言学登场，对传统语言理论提出了一系列批判，认为语言是对现实世界经过人类认知加工而形成的，在现实和语言之间存在“认知”这一中介，认知先于语言，决定语言，是语言的基础。
人类在对现实世界感知体验和认知加工的基础上形成了概念结构，语言形式不仅与客观的现实之间，而且在许多方面还与人们的经验结构、概念框架、认知方式之间存在映照性相似的现象，因此主张积极寻找和着力解释语言形式与所指意义之间的对应性象似关系。
这样，象似性理论才开始逐步被人们所认识、理解和接受。
认知语义学家认为语言符号在词形、结构等方面与世界特征、经验方式、认知规律、概念结构、所表意义之间存在象似性辩证关系，反对任意性支配说。
在认知语言学理论框架中研究象似性，主要强调了语言形式是体验、认知、语义、语用等多种外在和内在因素促动的结果，“语言作为思维和交际的主要工具，是基于认知和社会互动的”（langacker，2001：261)。
可见，语言符号是有理可据，有动因可循的，而不是任意的。
象似性，即“语言符号在语音、语形或结构上与其所指之间存在映照性相似的现象”（王寅，1999）。
当然语音针对的是有声语言，在手语表达中，语音这一部分被手势所取代，结构指的则是不同手势出现的先后顺序以及其中隐含的语法规则及结构。
象似性在语言的不同层面及其在跨语言对比时存在着程度上的很大差别，也就是“象似度”的差别。

浅谈中美文化存在的差异摘要：随着中国综合国力的增强，作为具有代表西方文化的美国与我国建立越来越密切，由于地理位置，宗教信仰，生活方式的不同所以中美的社会关系，价值观与道德标准、社会风俗和社会礼仪等方面都存在着差异，美国文化主张谦虚无私奉献和团结协作；西方人平等意识较强，而中国人等级观念较强，在跨文化交际中，由于文化障碍而导致的信息误解荒诞粗俗。
因此，研究文化差异，研究正确的跨文化交际行为已成为不可忽略的问题。

中美文化是人类的一道亮丽的风景线。
中美文化有共同点，也有不同之处，由于文化障碍而导致的信息误解，甚至伤害对方的现象屡见不鲜。
有时善意的言谈会使对方尴尬无比，礼貌的举止会被误解为荒诞粗俗。
在中国，对别人的健康状况表示关心是有教养，有礼貌的表现。
但对美国人的健康表示关心，就不能按照中国的传统方式了。
在美国，人们崇拜个人奋斗，尤其崇为个人取得的成而自豪，从来不掩饰自己的自信心、荣誉感与赞美。
但是中国人却很谦虚，不喜欢张扬性格。
文化障碍的确会影响跨文化交际。
因此有必要研究不同文化间的差异。
2价值观与道德观的差异2.1个人荣誉感与谦虚谨慎①美国人的个人荣誉感美国人崇拜个人奋斗，尤其崇为个人取得的成就自豪，从不掩饰自己的自信心、荣誉感以及在获得成就后的狂喜。
美国人的这种个人荣誉感与其崇尚的个人奋斗不无联系。
在美国人看来，个人荣誉的取得是建立在个人奋斗的基础上的。
没有个人孜孜不倦的勤奋努力，就不会有所成就，当然也就谈不上荣誉感。
因此，在他们取得荣誉后，他们会毫不掩饰的加以炫耀，而不是“深藏不露”。
以至于在我们中国人看来，美国人是毫不谦虚的。
②中国人的谦虚谨慎相反中国文化不主张炫耀个人荣誉，而是提倡谦虚。

文学作品的内容与文化的关系无须赘言，“人类原始文化时期，有文学神话内容，以幻想的方式解释人与自然的关系；工业文明时期有工业文明的文学内容，文学的‘时代性’、‘民族性’，实际上是文学的‘文化性’的代码用语。
同是古代诗歌，为何古希腊和印度是鸿篇巨制，而希伯莱和中国却是短章小曲？所有这些都可以在文化中找到根源”〔1〕。
纵观中华文化的发展轨迹不难看出，中国文化与美国自然主义之间存在着诸交点，两者均讲求“己”与“物”的相互依存关系（“己”就是自己，也就是主体，“物”就是外物，也就是自然和社会客体），两者均推崇宿命、遗传、环境的主导作用。
所不同的是，中国文化更多融入和谐积极的元素，强调“天人合一”；而美国自然主义则更多着眼于命运的不可掌控性，渲染人类来自大自然的偶然，也必将灭亡于大自然的偶然的悲观思想，带有更多的宿命色彩。

一、历史进程20世纪头三十年间，在美国掀起了翻译学习中国古诗的第一次高潮。
第一次世界大战的浩劫极大地冲击着欧美的传统思想文化和价值观念。
人们对数百年来奉为正统的道德观念和社会准则产生怀疑。
他们发现，社会的严酷现实和人的复杂思想观念远不像自文艺复兴时期以来许多文学家艺术家所描绘的那般美好。
一些知识分子苦闷彷徨，对未来悲观失望。
另一些人试图在欧美传统文化之外（如悠久神秘的东方文化）去寻求新的思想和道德观念。
在这样的历史背景下，一批学者诗人翻译出版了多种以唐代诗歌为主的中国古典诗歌。

The nineteenth century idea of a varied diet was one with different sorts of meat in it. Milk and vegetables were regarded as not only uneatable raw, but highly dangerous until boiled thoroughly. To a certain extent this is understandable, in an era without refrigeration, when typhoid and cholera could strike even the wealthy; over-cooking everything was probably a sensible course to take. People in English have a special eating habit. Firstly, the main meal in England seems to be eaten in the evening. Secondly, a big English breakfast is not something that many English people seem eat. Most of them have a light meal of cornflakes or toast and marmalade, orange juice and coffee rather than the eggs, sausages, bacon, bread, mushrooms and tomatoes. Fish has always been an important food in Britain. There are jellied eels, kippers or bloaters or crabs and so on. But the most popular of all is fish and chips, splashed with vinegar and eaten in the street out of a paper bag . British have a habit of drinking tea. “A nice cup of tea, the stronger the better”is supposed to be the British cure for all problems. Although many different drinks can be found in Britain, tea is undoubtedly the favorite at any time of the day and is the essential basis of afternoon tea. This is a meal that can vary from tea and a biscuit to the cooked high tea with lots of cakes served in the north. In the south west of England it is usually a cream tea, with home-made scones, strawberry jam and piles of thick clotted cream. People vary seldom have the thin cucumber sandwiches described in novels.American cuisine : The United States is a land of delicious eating. The two concepts essential to understanding US food are regionalism and diversity, accent on the latter.After all, Italian food differs from province to province and city to city as well. But key themes run through Italy’s food from south to north simply because its people have such strong roots in the Italian soil. Not so with the US. A nation of newcomers, its food reflects its origins. Long before Europeans set foot on American soil, vibrant and healthy civilizations nurtured themselves off the bounty of the land. They taught the settlers to plant the holy trinity of Native American cuisine—corn, beans and squash. The settlers returned the favor by nearly exterminating their benefactors, but those three foods played a vital in defining American cuisine. They retain their importance today across the continent—grits, cornbread in the South, tortillas and pinto beans in the Southwest, baked beans and succotash in the Northeast and pumpkin pie just about everywhere for Thanksgiving. American cuisine has come a long way since the early days of corn, beans and squash and along the way it has spawned some unforgettable food. American favorite food is known as KFC, McDonald's and pizza hut, the junk food. This diet keeps the American obesity rate high. But from the diet habits, it is not difficult for us to find that the American do everything vigorously and resolutely and do not stick to the trifles.ConclusionIn a word, there are lots of different conventions in the British and the American’s culture. These conventions can be easy found in their daily life. They are all the symbols of the society development. They made us know a lot about the culture in the European countries. So if you have any interests on it, try to learn something about that and I’m sure we can benefit from it more . we can see that the British are sensitive, restrained, conservative, they tend to be rational rigorous and gentlemanly. Based on the skilled writing techniques, the writer make a horrific atmosphere vividly by lots of detail description about the outside environment and characters’psychology. Although it appears that this atmosphere is managed from “deliberate policy”, the readers are still wrapped by a great fear, which is emphasized by Poe---”the expected effect”.Key words:writing technique; horrific atmosphere; “the expected effect”A simple analysis of The Fall of the House of Usher fromWriting TechniquesWe all know, The Fall of the House of Usher is one of the most successful works of Edgar Allan Poe is considered the father of the modern short story. As to this writing, which is also an example of psychoanalytic criticism. And there are something meaningful and interesting worthing our efforts to study and appreciate, so I want to share some my own analysis about this great work with you.First of all, a great peculiarity of the writing is based on a clever structure design. On the one hand, the author does his utmost to create an impressive outside world (or we call it natural environment). And the author not only takes advantage of adjectives and adverbs in order to build a mysterious and scary atmosphere, but also relies on repetition of these key words. For instance, “During the whole of a dull, dark ,and soundless day in the autumn of the year, when the clouds hung oppressively low the heavens,... within view of the melancholy House of Usher. ”At the beginning of the story, Poe is eager to create a depressive scene for us, and like these adjectives “dull”“dark”“soundless” whose appearance has decided the keynote of the whole article. When you read the first sentence, you can be grasped by the potential scare instantly as if you tended to be out of breath. And with the constant duplication of those main words, the environment is depicted more and more specific, vivid and appealing. All of these preparations provide a perfect setting for the characters’ activities.On the other hand, at the same time, the writer also creates an inner world of the leading character----” I”. When it comes to the inward world, there are also a lot of significant words are used, such as adjectives, nouns, verbs, adverbs, and so on. Especially, the writer is apt to use adjectives and adverbs to describe the subtle changes of the character’s mood, feeling and expression. For example, the writing is started with “...but, with the first glimpse of the building, a sense of insufferable gloom pervaded my spirit.”“...with an utter depression of soul which I can...”“...above all things startled and even awed me”, and the last reaction of the character is , “From that chamber, and from that mansion, I fled aghast”(Allan Poe, 2005). Throughout the entire story,actually, the reactions of the inner world are always changing with the variation of the outward world. What’s more, with the rapid changes of the outside environment, the changes of the inner world become more and more fierce and shaper, of course, catching our more eyes.Secondly,Allan Poe achieves his purpose of creating fear with the help of muti-pronged approach that is an effective writing technique to get an “the expected effect”. Because Allan Poe proposes that “It is only with the denouement constantly in view that we can give a plot its indispensable air of consequence or causation, by making the incidents, and especially the tone at all points, tend to the development of the intention”(2013: P17), there is nearly no redundant words in his work. In order to quickly bring about a terrific air for readers, the author depicts the environment through visual sense. For instance, in paragraph five, “The discoloration of ages had been great. Minute fungi overspread ... web-work from the eaves”, “No portion of the masonry had fallen... the individual stones”(Allan Poe, 2005). All those descriptions of objects provides the receivers with a visual impact through which can make an impressive picture.paragraph twenty-five to the last paragraph, there are several obvious sounds, like “rustled uneasily”“a light step”“the ordinary commingled noises”“a low and apparently distant, but harsh,protracted, and most unusual screaming or grating sound”, and so on, which is mentioned frequently and always designed in a very silent setting. They are so intensive and vivid that the readers have no time to put together their imagination when they are involved in reading, so the writer tries his best to simplify the process of shaping a “expected effect” air, and he shows every details frequently and even deliberately. However, it is not attractive for Poe to build a perfect atmosphere just through the combination of vision and hearing ,as a result. He also adds the psychological description of the characters. At the beginning of the article, “I know not how it was---but , with the first glimpse of the building, a sense of insufferable gloom pervaded my spirit”, and there follows another strange feeling, “It was the manner in which all this,...and I accordingly obeyed forth with what I still considered a very singular summons”(Allan Poe, 2005). With the time passing by, the fierce degree of the characters’inner motion becomes fiercer and fiercer. What’more, the changes of the characters’psychology tends to be more apparent and intensive,which brings the readers a strong feeling of fear. Even though the readers know that all of those plots are organized on purpose, they still can’t get rid of the great fear when they indulge into the wonderful and constant structure design. That is the reason why Poe’s essays are popular in spite of over a century.From what I have discussed, we can know that Allan Poe can not only create plenty of excellent details and plots, but also can make full use of his deliberate arrangement to his readers’ attention, and give them a feeling of “personally on the scene” . 在以影片内容为依据，逐一寻找中美文化的冲突点之前，应当首先了解两个国家的文化背景:中国文化，又称华夏文化，迄今传承已五千年，是“四大文明古国”中唯一传承至今的文化;美国文化是早期的欧洲殖民者和移民把欧洲文化带人美国，与印第安文化冲突和包容下形成了自己的文化，时至今日，虽然美国文化已经成为世界文化的主流之一，但还是与欧洲文化有着千丝万缕的联系，同时美国也是个移民国家，它的文化具有很强的融合性。
影片开篇叙述许大同先生在美国获得了成功的事业，也同时体现美国文化的第一要素“宪法赋予的言论自由”(天赋人权)，许大同先生获得了全美最佳电子游戏创意奖，而在颁奖现场许多美国人手持标语，反对电子游戏中的暴力内容，因为电子游戏中的暴力内容促使小孩们相互模仿，引发暴力犯罪。
许大同在其获奖感言中提及，在8年前他抱着“美国梦”移民美国，渴望有一天能获得成功，做一个真正意义的美国人，得到美国文化的认同。
