Debating is an essential part of academic and professional life, and it can be conducted in various languages, including English. However, using English as the medium of debate has both advantages and disadvantages, which we will explore in this essay.Firstly, debating in English allows participants to broaden their horizons and interact with people from different cultures and backgrounds. English is a global language, spoken by over 1.5 billion people worldwide, and it is the primary language of international communication. Therefore, using English in debates enables participants to connect with a vast audience and exchange ideas with people from diverse regions and perspectives.Secondly, debating in English enhances language skills and fosters critical thinking. English is a complexlanguage with many nuances and idiomatic expressions, which require a high level of proficiency to master. Therefore, participating in debates in English improves language skills, including vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation. Moreover, debates require logical reasoning, evidence-based arguments, and persuasive communication, which areessential skills for academic and professional success.However, debating in English also has some drawbacks. Firstly, it can be challenging for non-native speakers to express their ideas accurately and fluently in English. Language barriers can hinder effective communication and limit the participation of non-native speakers in debates. Moreover, debates in English can be biased towards native speakers, who have an advantage in terms of language proficiency and cultural familiarity.Secondly, using English in debates can lead to the neglect of local languages and cultures. English is a dominant language in many parts of the world, and its widespread use can lead to the marginalization of local languages and cultures. Therefore, it is essential topromote multilingualism and encourage the use of local languages in debates to preserve linguistic diversity and cultural heritage.In conclusion, debating in English has both advantages and disadvantages, and it is essential to balance the benefits of using a global language with the need to preserve linguistic diversity and cultural heritage. Debating in English can broaden horizons, enhance language skills, and foster critical thinking, but it can also create language barriers and neglect local languages and cultures. Parliamentary Points of Information
Debaters may offer a point of information (either verbally or by rising) at any time after the first minute, and before the last minute, of any speech. The debater holding the floor may accept or refuse points of information. If accepted, the debater making the request has fifteen seconds present the point of information. During the point of information, the speaking time of the floor debater continues.
A “motion” is the statement around which the debate takes place. The motion divides the ground in the debate between the Proposition and Opposition teams and should allow for reasonable arguments both for and against.

英语辩论中国话题稿对话范文
英语辩论中国话题稿对话范文以下是一篇关于英语辩论中国话题的对话范文:A: Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. Today’s debate is about China’s role in the global economy. We have two teams, for the proposition and the opposition. Let’s begin with the proposition. What is your stance on this issue?B: Thank you, Mr. Chair. Our team believes that China has been playing an increasingly important role in the global economy, and this trend is likely to continue in the future. There are several reasons for this. Firstly, China is the world’s largest exporter and one of the biggest importers. Secondly, it has a huge population and a rapidly growing middle class, which means there is a huge potential market for goods and services. Finally, China has been investing heavily in infrastructure, education, and innovation, which has helped it to become a leader in several key industries.A: Thank you, team. Now let’s hear from the opposition. What is your response to these arguments?C: Thank you, Mr. Chair. Our team acknowledges that China has made significant progress in recent years, but we believe that this progress has come at a cost. Firstly, China’s economic growth has been heavily reliant on exports and investment,rather than domestic consumption. This has resulted in a large trade surplus, which has created imbalances in the global economy. Secondly, China’s state-led economic model has led to inefficiencies and corruption. Finally, China’s rapid industrialization has had a negative impact on the environment, which could have serious long-term consequences.A: Thank you, team. Now let’s move on to the rebuttal round. Team proposition, how do you respond to the opposition’s arguments?B: Thank you, Mr. Chair. Our team agrees that China has faced some challenges in its economic development, but we believe that these challenges are not unique to China, and that they can be addressed through reforms. For example, China has already started to shift towards a more consumer-driven economy, and it has made efforts to tackle corruption and environmental problems.A: Thank you, team. Team opposition, do you have any further rebuttals?C: Thank you, Mr. Chair. Our team acknowledges that reforms are necessary, but we believe that the scale of the challenges facing China is daunting. For example, China’s debt levels have been rising rapidly, and its demographic trends are unfavorable,with an aging population and a shrinking workforce. Furthermore, China’s authoritarian political system makes it difficult to achieve meaningful reforms, as there is little accountability or transparency.A: Thank you, team. Now let’s move on to the closing statements. Team proposition, what is your final argument?B: Thank you, Mr. Chair. Our team believes that China’s economic rise is one of the most significant developments of our time, and that it has the potential to benefit not only China but also the rest of the world. We believe that China can continue to play a positive role in the global economy, as long as it continues to pursue reforms and address its challenges. A: Thank you, team. Team opposition, what is your final argument?C: Thank you, Mr. Chair. Our team believes that the risks and challenges of China’s economic rise are too great to ignore. We believe that the world needs to be vigilant and cautious in dealing with China, and that it needs to encourage China to adopt a more open and transparent economic and political system. Only then can China’s economic rise truly benefit the world. A: Thank you to both teams for a stimulating debate. The audience will now vote on the motion, “China’s role in theglobal economy is positive.”。

辩论或讨论: 请阅读下面两篇短文 Why We Should Not Use Cloning The arguments for cloning involve whether we should take nature into our own hands by cloning humans. What would Hitler have done with cloning technology if it had been available in the 1940s? There are evil-minded leaders in every generation who will seek to abuse this technology for their own purposes. Going ahead with cloning technology makes this far more likely. Besides, the technique of cloning is at its early developmental stages. Errors often occur when scientists carry out the procedure. For instance, it took 277 tries to produce Dolly, whose health even the cloning scientists are not yet sure of. This may be the main reason science is holding out on cloning humans. Why We Should Use Cloning Human cloning technology is expected to result in several miraculous medical breakthroughs. We may be able to cure cancer if cloning leads to a better understanding. We often read about a girl who needs a kidney, a traffic accident victim who needs an eye, and a mountain climber who has lost a leg. All these people favor cloning and want the science to proceed. Some people are worried that the technology can also be used for reproducing humans, but for a couple with no fertility or a couple whose child died, cloning has the potential to change their lives.
Talk about pros and cons of cloning.
PROS Helping people to have babies they cannot have otherwise; Finding the cures to fatal injuries and diseases; Enabling endangered species to increase their population; Massively improving the agricultural industry. CONS Against nature; Leading to unforeseen disasters;
pros VS. cons Severino Antinori Protestors against cloning Possible abuses of the cloning technique; Causing ethical problems.
MORE … Advantages and disadvantages of human cloning
1. We can reverse our own aging process by using cloning. If a person could clone his body cells and have these cells implanted into the body when he is older, this person could renew his body. Someday this technique could allow humans to live to any age they want. 2. Embryonic stem cells can be grown to produce organs or tissues to repair or replace damaged ones. Skin for burn victims, brain cells for the brain damaged, spinal cord cells for quadriplegics and paraplegics, hearts, lungs, livers, and kidneys could be produced. By combining this technology with human cloning technology it may be possible to produce needed tissue for suffering people that will be free of rejection by their immune systems. 3. Cloning could help infertile couples if they want to have children. One single egg cell has to be taken from the woman's ovary and put into a dish where it is fertilized with a sperm cell from the man. The fertilized egg cell is than placed into the woman's womb. 4. Reconstructive and cosmetic surgery could be improved with the help of cloning. Up to now cosmetic surgery can be risky because it uses materials that are foreign to the body. Doctors would have the ability to manufacture bone, fat and connective tissue that matches the patient's tissues exactly. Every person could change his appearance risklessly. 5. Cloning can be used to cure currently incurable diseases. We may be able to cure cancer if we learn how cells differentiate into specific kind of tissue and how cancerous cells loose their differentiation. We could learn about this and then we may be able to develop an effective gene therapy to help sick people. 6. We can produce a person genetically identical to a dead person, with exactly the same outward appearance. So the dead person will get a new life. For example, we can clone a famous dead person or our loved one. 7. Cloning gives the chance for lesbians35 to have children. Technically it is possible to create a baby with the hereditary36 material from two mothers. Their baby will later look exactly like the mother who donated the hereditary material.
Negative arguments (Human cloning should not be permitted.) 1. Realizing the dream to live forever brings a lot of new problems. We already have the problem that there are too many old people and not enough young people to pay for their pensions. 2. Also old people may be physical healthy but we have no medicine or technique to renew their mind. For some people with mental illness this artificially prolonged life might not be worth living.
