In the period of monarch ruled, people valued the chastity of woman. And this notion that girls maintained their moral integrity before marriage was been reflected in the white wedding dress worn by bride. People hold the idea that the bride is the most beautiful and pure on the wedding day and the white is the only color that matches their beauty. On the other hand, since the roman time, the white color represented the happiness. On the wedding day, white is the unique dominant hue, such as the white wedding dress, white arrangement and white cake. All white things can become the most popular decoration. But on Chinese traditional wedding ceremony, there is another scene. The color red plays a vital part of a traditional Chinese wedding, from the red weddinginvitations, the red gift envelopes, to the red wedding decor ations and the couple’s red wedding outfits. In Chinese, Usually, the groom will wear long robe with a band of silk around his neck, a Mandarin jacket, and a “Number One Scholar” hat while the bride will wear a gorgeous red gown covered with silk, sometimes even silver and gold, a phoenix headpiece and a red veil which covers her face. As we mentioned, red is favorite for all Chinese people for red is considered as good luck that can keep evil spirits away. In China, many folk wedding dress ornaments embody the people's best wishes, every ornament have a specific symbolic significance. It not only has the rich connotation, but also means auspicious. When the red used in clothing as a symbol,it rise to the abstraction hierarchy, and it is no longer refers to one or a specific class, but has become a symbol. Red is the traditional color, and it is be praised highly in Chinese people. And that red represents the lucky and happiness, which stemmed from the worship of Apollo and the god of the earth. Since ancient times, red was the popular color. It stands for the color of blood that means life and fire that means existence. There is death if there is no fire and blood. Until Han dynasty, Han emperor declared himself as Red Emperor's son. In addition, red can be used only in togas, which represented the privilege prosperity. From that time, the red color became the color that people praised. That is why red is found everywhere not only in the wedding ceremony but also on Chinese New Year and other holidays. The second is the different design style. Western society is a romantic, relatively open country, so the wedding designs also Romantic and openness. In western country, traditional wedding dress should include something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue. Something old means sustain that transit from single life to marriage. Something new means marriage is the ceremony that transiting to the grown-up. Something borrowed is that bring the good luck to the newly-married by borrowing something from married couples who lives a happy life. The last is something blue, which means the blue hems on the wedding dress that symbolize the pure and Fidelity. But with the development of society, there are many different styles wedding dress to choose for people. The western-style wedding dress presentsclassical, romantic and noble temperament by and large. Generally speaking, the wedding dress of classical style draws lessons from the style of ancient Europe and it inherits traditional characteristics, such as the color, modeling and decoration, which can set off the graceful temperament of bride. And this kind of wedding dress more used type-X and make use of the supporting method such as the bustle, chest pad and buttocks pad to strengthen the rendering effects of the feminine figures. And in this way, more complex decorations and lace have been used. The romantic style is very different with the classical style. It came into use on the basis of evening dress. And in order to stress the female sexuality, it uses the elegant lines and combines adornment elements of decorative border and embroidery to forms the tender style. The last but not the least is the most popular style. This kind of style often been used in wedding dress of advanced customization. It has exquisite workmanship and flamboyant decoration. In addition , it make extensive use of the tectonic measure of flounce, pearls ,patch and drilling scalding to form the effect of low relief, which looks grand and it can set off the noble and exalted feeling of bride. While in China, the wedding dress of traditional style plays a big role in wedding culture .And the traditional wedding dress used the experience of different dynasty, which formed the retro image for bride. The traditional Chinese wedding dress in northern Chinese usually is one piece frock named cheongsam, embroidered with elaborate gold and silver design. Brides in Southern China prefer to wear two-piece dress name Qungua, which also elaborately adorn with gold dragon and phoenix. The main reason why Chinese people prefer to wear the cheongsam is that it fits well Chinese female figure, has simple lines and looks elegant. What's more, it is suitable for wearing in all seasons by old and young. The cheongsam can either be long or short, unlined or interlined, woolen or made of silk floss. Besides, with different materials, the cheongsam presents different styles. For example, the superior fabric such as tapestry satin and real silk highlights the beauty lines of woman. The big cultural difference in china and western society reflect the connotation in Chinese culture and the unrestrained western culture. And it also can reflect the grace that we pursuit in Chinese culture and the noble that western people favoured in theirsociety. In addition, we can know that the western wedding culture mainly reveal the individualism, which means that self esteem to the personality. On the contrary, the Chinese wedding dress mainly stress the importance of the mode of group-think, manners and social order. To some extent, the individual selfish departmentalism of western country may embody the respect for individuality, but it is short of the control to the whole. There is strong idea of the overall concept, but it ignores the request of personality. However, there are also some similarities in both two. For instance, in both China and the west, the bride’s face is covered by a veil, which was used to prevent the bride being an attraction to other men in the past. In both cultures, there are some customs to throwing away evil spirits such as setting out fire crackers and stepping over fire basins in China and throwing confetti and petals to the newlyweds in the west.Wedding ceremony reflects different culture, and the differences should be respected and learned. Along with the Western cultural exchanges, we have more and more exposure to western culture, to learn more about the Chinese and Western cultural differences and the causes of the differences, so that we will better understand the western culture to promote cultural fusion and enhance the cultural adaptability. That has very important sense for modern people to realize qualitative leap from perceptual to rational thought, eliminate the influence of negative transfer, and then make our intercultural communication more effective, more smoothly.Different cultures lead to different customs. All in all, however, no matter where the wedding takes place, it is full of laughter, blessing and happiness.。

中西婚礼差异英文版Differences Between Chinese Marriage Custom and Western Marriage CustomAbstractThere are many procedures in Chinese marriage custom。
The book propriety and ceremony, which records earliest wedding ceremony, says that marriage includes six etiquettes, namely, proposing, asking the name, asking for fortune, sending betrothal presents to the girl's family, discussing the date of marriage and meeting the bride. In western marriage, there are four procedures. They are proposal, changing surnames, choosing the day and holding the wedding. As the different religions, cultural origins, marriage concepts and geographies, there are many differences existing in the two kinds of marriage customs. In Chinese marriage custom, the matchmaker functions almost all the time and youths have no right to choose and women are not on an equal footing with men. By contrast,in western marriage custom, the priest functions and the youths have legal right to choose whom they want to marry and men and women are equal. There also exist common things in the two sides. They have been maintained for thousands of years. But in recent years (especially after the founding of modern China),people have tended to discard some of the details and advocate simplified marriage procedures and wedding ceremonies。

When it comes to weddings, the world is a vast tapestry of diverse traditions and customs. The East and the West, though separated by oceans and continents, both hold the celebration of marriage in high regard, yet the ways in which they do so are as different as the cultures themselves. Having attended both Eastern and Western weddings, I can attest to the unique charm and significance each has to offer. In the East, particularly in countries like China and India, weddings are often grand affairs that can last for days. The ceremonies are steeped in tradition and are deeply symbolic. For instance, in a traditional Chinese wedding, the bride and groom are adorned in red, the color of prosperity and good fortune. The ceremony might include a tea ceremony where the couple serves tea to their elders as a sign of respect and gratitude. This act is not just a ritual but a profound expression of filial piety and the continuity of family lineage.Contrastingly, Western weddings, especially in countries like the United States and the United Kingdom, tend to be more intimate and focused on the couple. The bride typically walks down the aisle to meet her groom, surrounded by the gaze of loved ones. The ceremony is often held in a church or other sacred place, symbolizing the sanctity of the union. The exchange of vows and rings is a pivotal moment, signifying the couples commitment to one another. One of the most striking differences between Eastern and Western weddings is the role of the family. In Eastern cultures, the family plays a central role in the wedding process. From the initial matchmaking to thedowry and the wedding banquet, the familys involvement is integral. Its not uncommon for entire villages to come together to celebrate the union, making it a community event as much as a family one.On the other hand, Western weddings often emphasize the couples autonomy. While family is certainly important, the focus is on the love and commitment between the bride and groom. The wedding is a celebration of their decision to join lives, and the ceremony is a personal and intimate affair.Cultural symbolism also varies greatly. In Eastern weddings, rituals are laden with meaning. For example, in a Hindu wedding, the couple circles a sacred fire while reciting vows, symbolizing their commitment to walk together through lifes journey. In contrast, Western weddings often include readings, prayers, and hymns that reflect the couples spiritual beliefs and the sanctity of their union. The reception, too, is a point of divergence. Eastern receptions are typically large, festive gatherings with an abundance of food, music, and dance. Its a time for joyous celebration and communal feasting. In contrast, Western receptions are often more structured, with speeches, the first dance, and cutting of the cake as highlights of the event.Despite these differences, there is a common thread that runs through all weddings, East and West: the celebration of love and the coming together of two hearts. Whether its the exchange of vows under a floweradorned arch in a Western church or the intricate rituals of an Eastern ceremony, the essence of the occasion remains the same.In my experience, attending a wedding is not just about witnessing the union of two people its about immersing oneself in the rich tapestry of a cultures traditions. Each wedding Ive attended has been a lesson in the diversity of human expression of love and commitment. Its a reminder that, despite our differences, we all share the universal desire to celebrate love and form lasting bonds. In conclusion, while Eastern and Western weddings differ in many ways, they are both beautiful expressions of the joyous occasion of marriage. Each has its own unique charm and significance, and to experience both is to appreciate the richness of our global community. As we continue to share and learn from one anothers customs, we enrich not only our understanding of different cultures but also our own lives.。

The Differences between China and American Weddings
The Differences between Chinese and WesternWeddingsMarriage is a ceremony that held for two lovers who are determined to become a couple in their future and be a family in the rest of their life. Marriage becomes a very important part in people’s life. It is full of happiness and deep love in each wedding, and weddings make girls becoming the unique and most beautiful person in the world that day. However, different countries have different wedding forms because of diverse cultures. Western and Chinese wedding have lots of distinctions in the wedding style, wedding customs, and wedding dressings.1. Chinese and Western weddings have different wedding styles.(1)From the color, we can use two colors to describe them: white and red. In China, red is symbolic of lucky and prosperity. It can be said that red is the main color in the wedding day, for example, the red-double happiness are stuck over all the kinds of goods, and bride’s traditional dress is also red, what’s more, candles, eggs, peanuts, papers a nd bedding are all decorated with red , all in all , red gives new couple a sense of happiness and prosperity. In America, brides choose to be married in white as their first choice. The color has long been associated with weddings because of its supposed symbolic link to virginity. The house and the church are all decorated with white balloons, and the bride’s wedding dress is also the white color.(2)From the sound of wedding, there is a great difference between them. In China, the more noisy the sound, the more lively the occasion, and the more blessing the new couple can be received, so the family will set off much firecrackers on that day during the process of the wedding. On the contrary, the American regards that when the soft “Wedding March” is play ed with the serene atmosphere, the new couple will more easy get the blessing of God, and the bride change her status, that is, from the good daughter of her father to the good wife of her husband.(3)From other aspects of the wedding styles, we can see that the western wedding is a romantic and terrific type from start to the end. In the west, if a man in love wants to marry a female, he must propose to the bride first, he may spend lots of time and energy to prepare for the proposal in order to give the bride a big surprise and a great touch. Besides, an engagement ring is also a necessity. On the other hand, the wedding ceremony is held in a church by a priest. The churches is the most vital link in the entire wedding ceremony, where the priest asks the bride and groom to make a lifetime commitment, then the new couple exchange marriage rings, and at the end of the wedding, the bride throws the flower ball to the female guests which makes the entire ceremony climactic. In contrast, it is traditional and special of the Chinese wedding style. In a traditional Chinese wedding, when the groom arrives at the bride's home, the bride covered by a red head-kerchief must cry with her mother to show her reluctance to leave home. The bride's family members or friends will set various tricks to the gloom. For example, they won't open the door until the groom gives some gifts called Hongbao. Additionally, they may hide the bride or her shoes and ask the groom to find them out. These traditional manners are very interesting and often have their special meanings.2. The wedding customs are likewise very different between Chinese and Western weddings.(1)In the western countries, it has long been considered bad luck for a groom to see his bride before the wedding day. In many cultures brides-to-be are considered unclean and are secluded for a period of time before the ceremony so that they will not contaminate others. And the engaged men and women have to prepare a lot for the wedding. On the night before the wedding, a rehearsal dinner after practicing the ceremony will be held and all the members will attend. Certainly, they have to prepare lots of invitation cards to invite friends, colleagues and relatives to attend their wedding.(2)Besides, traditionally, it is the b ride’s family, not the bridegroom’s family, that pays the bill on the wedding day, but in China is the bridegroom’s family pays it.(3)What’s more, after the wedding, the couple will take the journey which is so-called the honeymoon: The newly married are in the “honey”, or full phase of their love, which likes the moon, is bound someday to wane.(4)While in China, people create some funny things to make the wedding lively. For instance, the double happiness, which is on a red piece of paper or in paper cut, is always pasted up around the houses to show its happiness. Though many traditional activities can no longer be seen at a Chinese wedding, the spree bridal chamber is still common both in country and in town. The spree happens after the groom and bride go into their bridal chamber. Lots of friends and relatives, especially the young, can enter the room and play all kinds of tricks on the new couple. They cheer and laugh a lot to congratulate the couple and share their happiness so that there is an exceptionally lively atmosphere in the room.3. Newlyweds in different nations have distinct dressings on the wedding.(1)Western wedding cultures have special requirements for dressings. The traditional wedding costume should contain "something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue", which is now an important part in a western wedding. Something old is symbolic of continuity, something new signifies hope for the future, something borrowed is emblematic of future happiness, and something blue means the color of purity, love and fidelity. The white wedding gown is extremely common and popular, which stands for purity and beauty.(2)However, Chinese new couples wear the clothes that represent the Chinese antique traditions. In China, red is a symbol of luck, wealth and health, so the bride's clothes on that day are always red inside and out. They may also wear Tang suits and cheong-sam if the new couple wants to hold a traditional wedding ceremony.4. ConclusionFrom the above studying, we can easily know the differences between Chinese and Western weddings, it helps us to understand the two kinds of weddings’ exact features. The western wedding values romanticism and freedom, while the Chinese values deeper cultural connotations. Nowadays, many weddings have mixed characters of the different countries. It is very wonderful that we can combine western wedding and Chinese wedding to hold a romantic, traditional, and meaningful one. Anyhow, it will be a lovely wedding as long as happiness and love exist.

Title: A Comparative Analysis of Chinese and Western Wedding Cultures。
Weddings are an embodiment of cultural values and traditions, serving as a significant milestone in the lives of individuals worldwide. While both Chinese and Western wedding cultures celebrate the union of two individuals, they exhibit distinct customs and practices reflective of their respective traditions. In this essay, we will delve into a comparative analysis of Chinese and Western wedding cultures.First and foremost, let's explore the ceremonial aspects of these weddings. In Western cultures, weddings typically follow a structured sequence of events. The ceremony commonly takes place in a church or a picturesque outdoor setting. The bride traditionally walks down the aisle accompanied by her father, symbolizing the transition from her parental home to her new life with her partner.Vows are exchanged, often personalized by the couple, followed by the exchange of rings as a symbol of eternal love and commitment.Contrastingly, Chinese weddings are deeply rooted in tradition and symbolism. One of the most notable aspects is the use of vibrant red color, symbolizing joy, luck, and prosperity in Chinese culture. The wedding ceremony often incorporates rituals such as the Tea Ceremony, where the newlyweds serve tea to their parents as a gesture of respect and gratitude. Additionally, the exchange of hongbao (red envelopes containing money) is customary, symbolizing good luck and blessings for the newlyweds' future.Another significant difference lies in the attire worn by the bride and groom. In Western weddings, the bride traditionally wears a white gown, symbolizing purity and innocence, while the groom wears a suit or tuxedo. However, modern trends have seen a deviation from this tradition, with brides opting for various colors and styles. In contrast, Chinese brides often wear elaborate red qipaos orcheongsams, adorned with intricate embroidery and gold accents. The groom typically wears a black suit with a red tie or a traditional Tang suit, symbolizing auspiciousness and happiness.Furthermore, the role of family and guests differs between Chinese and Western weddings. In Western weddings, guests play a significant role in celebrating the union of the couple, often participating in rituals such as throwing the bouquet or giving toasts. Family members may also have specific roles, such as serving as bridesmaids or groomsmen. In contrast, Chinese weddings emphasize familial ties and respect for elders. Family members are actively involved in the wedding planning process and play a crucial role in the ceremonial rituals, such as the Tea Ceremony mentioned earlier. In terms of post-wedding customs, both Chinese and Western cultures have their unique traditions. In Western culture, the newlyweds often embark on a honeymoon immediately after the wedding ceremony, symbolizing the beginning of their new life together. Chinese weddings, onthe other hand, may include additional rituals such as the "fetching of the bride," where the groom and his groomsmen must pass various challenges set by the bridesmaids before he can claim his bride. In conclusion, while Chinese and Western wedding cultures share the common goal of celebrating love and commitment, they differ significantly in terms of rituals, attire, and societal customs. Each culture brings its unique traditions and symbolism to the ceremony, reflecting the rich tapestry of human diversity and expression. Ultimately, whether it's a Western white wedding or a Chinese red wedding, the essence of love and unity transcends cultural boundaries, making weddings a universally cherished celebration of life and partnership.。

IntroductionAs everyone knows, love, beyond the limitation of nations, ethics, times and space, is an eternal topic for human beings. It plays an important and essential role in our social development and human civilization. Sometimes, to our surprise, it can give us magical power to conquer the difficulties that we meet in our daily life. However, love can just proves that the two lovers know and understand the relationship very well, and others cannot understand it. Wedding has an especial function which can help you realize your long-cherished will, it states to others that the two lovers combine and live together forever. With Chinese reforming, opening and developing, Chinese traditional culturesteps out of China and enters western countries, then the wedding ceremony becomes a part of their culture gradually, even more and more people rooted in the western countries favor Chinese traditional wedding. Some people stage the wedding ceremony on their own soil or in China adopting Chinese traditional wedding ceremony, they treat it as an honor for them. At the same time, Chinese people accept the western elite, useful and healthy culture and use it in their life. Church wedding is a kind of western culture, the church is used for sermonizing and worshipping in western Christianized countries. Although Chinese people does not believe in Jesus Christ, with the people’s thought civilizing and changing, many people believe in Christ and build church in their activity centers used for praying and staging wedding ceremony, especially in larger and developed cities in China. The young group intends to enjoy the western wedding atmosphere. Ethic culture experiences thousands years developing and passing on. It symbolizes a people with their outstanding ethic character, Chinese wedding has its own character, and so do western countries. I briefly summarize the differences and similarities between two different kinds of culture through contrast and analysis and remind the younger generation not to forget our traditional culture.II. DatingGenerally speaking, dating, as the first step of marriage, should be carried out at the very beginning of the whole wedding process. But the wedding did not begin with the dating in ancient China instead of the proposal. When it is time for boy and girl to get married, boy’s parents should propose to girl firstly. After proposal, if the boy and the girl agreed with and satisfied with the event, so, they started to date. Generally, the boy invited the girl to see the ancient performances such as acrobatics shown on the street or public places, or the lantern festival performed at night. In a word, the place where they went to date was not many comparing to nowadays. During this period, they could learn of each other and cultivate the feelings between them, if they stayed together smoothly and happily, they would move to the next step. However, with the social development and the younger generation’s mind civilizing, they begin to date with their ideal match in the theatres, movies and quiet restaurants by themselves and cancel their parents’ interference. Often boys invite girls out to see the movies with popcorn and inexpensive junk food and they enjoy the love stories and funny plots, this atmosphere can stimulate their beautiful minds, after movies, they often choose a quiet and small restaurant filled with the beautiful love songs or sweet melody of the piano to have supper, which depends on the boy’s taste. After supper, the boy always pays the fee. Often, they date in the evening but not in the early morning, after dating, the boy should take the girl back home and say good night. However, in the western countries, what is the significance of American dating? Often dating means no more than getting to know one another and having some fun. It is often the beginning of a friendship with someone whom you may like but not necessary marry. Dating is not as serious in America as it is in some countries, but it is important because every person has the freedom to choose his marriage partner, one with whom he hopes to spend the rest of his life. Dating is one way to accomplish that goal. Perhaps, the democracy in the West develops dramatically, for the dating, on the first dating, some American women prefer to go “Dutch treat”. This means that the girl pays for herself. Because Americans are informal in their dating pattern, there is no rule that says boys always pay. Maybe some of you do not agree with this, but some Americans prefer it. In most foreign countries, the boy usually pays all expenses when he takes a girl out, even on the first date. The girl never pays unless it is a special occasion. Then the girl may insist on paying, but only if they have gone out together for quite a while.2.1 DressingBefore dating, the boy wears the suit orderly and polished shoes and combs his hair lengthily. For girl, she dresses her up carefully as well, the choice of clothes and shoes, blouse or trousers and perfume. In western countries, the boy dresses like a Chinese more or less, but a remarkable difference there is the boy wearing deodorant and an after-shave lotion or perfume at all time. The media-conditioned Americans prefer to scents of cosmetic products to the natural smell of body. Yet it has been scientifically proven that the smell of sweat of a clean body can attract the opposite sex. Many Americans, however, feel the need to cover up natural smells created by the section of glands during physical activity with artificial perfumes or colognes.III. CourtshipWhile the dating carries on smoothly and successfully, the boy thinks it is time to say “ I have fallen in love with you passionately and hopelessly as I met you at first sight, are you willing to accept my love to you and marry me”the courtship proposed suddenly while the girl has no consciousness and preparation in her mind, it can surprise the girl and be full of romance, it is proposed, perhaps, in an uncertain dating, or an out traveling or some occasions. In a word, it is not proposed until the chance is ripen. In westerncountries, the boy and a girl who date each other spend a lot of time together learning to know each other, when they begin to date frequently and seriously, they enter into the stage of courtship. Usually, boy first proposes to the girl, and often he tries to surprise the girl in a romantic way, during the ceremony of courtship, the boy kneels down one leg and swear formally and seriously, if the girl agree with his courtship, the boy gives her fiancée a diamond ring as a symbol of their engagement, they may engaged for weeks, months and even more years before they get married.IV. EngagementAfter the courtship, the boy and the girl tell their parents the event individually. So both set of parents exchange family credentials as token of intention. Then, after exchange after extensive bargaining, the two families would arrive at the amount of money and goods that would make up the gift to the girl’s family. After presenting engagement tokens, the go-between would ask the bride’s family to chose among several auspicious dates suggested by the boy’s family and also set a date for presenting betr othal gifts. It is traditional Chinese ceremony. In modern times, in some rural and remote areas, the boy’s family still gives money only to the girl’s except tea, bridal cakes, pairs of male and female poultry and sugar, wine and tobacco. It is Chinese character, but in some developed and high-civilized areas, the boy’s do not pay girl’s one coin. In western countries, the boy’s never paid the girl’s a lot, but the boy must face his father-in-law with serials of questions. Even if a young girl has supported herself and lived away from home, her parents have the right to know just how her fiancéproposes to handle the long-rang financing of their family and home. The fiancé should state his income, his savings, and his future expectations without exaggerating any of them.4.1 Engagement PartyIn China, engagement party is staged in boy’s family, the boy would invite his relatives and close friends to participate, the party is not grandeur just about fifty to a hundred guests from the girl’ side less and boy’more. During the party, the girl should toast the guests from boy’side under the guidance of the boy and the person who is familiar with these relatives and friends, the person and the boy introduce the relatives and friends to the girl, and the girl calls the respected names following the boy, the respected relatives can give the girl money, and girl should thank them and toast more than one cup, and a pointed person should declare this affair to the public loudly. If the house is not largeenough, the not-very-important-guests have to seat in the courtyard. Generally, the toast should begin from guests who seat on the salt in the house to the ordinary guests, from female guest to male guest, from guest to serviceman, last but not least, the girl can receive much money. After dinner, the acquitted guests get together and chat till it is time for the girl’s party leaving, so all the people belonging to boy’s side should farewell girl’s party. In the west, Engagement parties are given by the parents of the bride-to-be or by relative of the bride acting for her parents, usually just before the newspaper announcement of engagement. If the bride-to-be and her finance live in a city other than he parents’ home town during the wedding festivals. However if family home is not far away, it is proper for the engaged couple to travel there for the announcement party, Champagne served for toasts for the engaged couples. When the party is essentially a family reunion dinner, the father of the young woman can rise and say, this is such a happy occasion for my wife and me. We wish to announce the engagement of our daughter, Jenny, to the nicest young man in the entire generation, Mr. Edward. If a minister, a priest, or a rabbi is present, he will rise next to bless the couple. If the party is fair larger, the engaged couple and girl’s parents might form a receiving line. The bride-to-be usually wears her engagement ring officially for the first time on this occasion. If she has a gift for the groom-to-be, she gives it to him right before or after engagement party.4.2 Engagement RingIn ancient China and rural areas, the girl can not gain the engagement ring instead of a pair of golden bracelet or a couple of silver earrings given by her mother-in-law. Traditionally, the golden bracelets and silver earrings are inherited from her mother-in-law’s mother-in-law’s mother-in-law. In the future, if they have a daughter-in-law, she will give it to her till it is lost or destroyed suddenly, the girl should treasure and cherish it very much. In western countries, for American, the traditional engagement ring is a diamond solitaire. However, today anything goes –a ring with many colored stone, a ring with a large semiprecious stone, a heirloom ring reset in a modern design, or even a stone in the bride’s family, simply reset in a tiffany setting. The wedding ring will be of the same metal (platinum, yellow gold, or white gold) as the engagement ring. Some women prefer no engagement ring but choose a wedding band instead. No one has to have an engagement ring. A girl may want her fiancé to give her a pearl necklace instead, or a jeweled watch. Jeweled ring can be given as gifts on many occasions during their married lives-such as wedding anniversaries, the birth of a child, or an important job promotion.4.3 Girl’s Reception and Bridal ShowerIn China, the day before wedding ceremony staged in groom’s family next day, the bride’s parents should held an etiquette which states that their daughter is going to marry. In this day, bride’s family should invite a lot of relatives and friends to come to their house and congratulate with gifts. Bride’parents should display the dowry to everyone, the relatives and friends, especially female, focus on it and evaluate it. Generally, if the bride is born in a high-heeled family, so her parents will give hers more, oppositely, she will receive less. On the other hand, the groom should go to the bride’s house with certain gifts. On the etiquette, the groom should toast to these relatives and friends and call their respected names under the guide of a certain person who is familiar with these relatives and friends, there is an obscure customs that the groom should drink all the wine handed by these relatives and friends, the groom may be drunk for his inferior drinking capacity. At the same time, bride’s relatives and friends can value the groom’figure, appearance, behaviors and judge the groom’s fate based on astrology and superstition. At last, after the etiquette finished, the boy should go back. The groom can also learn of relatives and friends through this way. This ceremony is just equal to the western bridal shower, in western countries, the bridal shower is generally considered to be a survivor of the dowry system. As an old man either tells the oft-repeated tale, centuries ago a young Dutch miller fell in love with a girl who returned his affections, and all might have been well had he not been as generous as he was smitten. In the habit of donating his bread to the needy, he had become poor himself; so the girl’s father blocked the wedding by withholding her dowry, and urged her to marry a rich farmer. The local townspeople, hearing of the couple’s plight, showered the daughter with so many household goods that she soon had a much larger dowry than her father himself had provided. The two were promptly betrothed. Apocryphal or not, the story indicates the communal and spontaneous nature of the bridal shower. Typically showers are given by and for close friends of the bride, and the shower gifts that etiquette recommends are conventionally of the domestic variety. In fact, invitations often specify linen shower or kitchen shower, also, shower gifts are supposed to be relatively inexpensive –that is, in comparison with wedding gifts.V. Wedding5.1 Wedding TimeIn China, usually the wedding is staged on the holiday, such as Valentine’s Day(February, 14th). It is a romantic festival originated from the western country. With people’s thought civilizing and changing, the young generation care for it so much, during this day, some young lovers express their love to each other, date or propose, the boy sends the girl rose and the girl responses the excellent chocolate in return. So a lot of young lover choose this day as their “big day” in metropolitans especially.Labor Day (May, 1st) and National Day as the national holiday in Chinese, the people working in different fields are on holiday, the bride and groom are not will to disturb other’s working time, so they choose Labor Day and National Day as their wedding day popularly in big cities. In countryside, the young lovers set a luck day before the Spring Festival and choose an even day like twenty2nd and twenty 4th based on horoscope and superstition. Because the young lovers can come back, during these days, people in countryside are free, wedding can bring them happy atmosphere and surprising. But other days can also be choose as their “big day” according to astrological calendar. In western countries, the young lovers like China set the Valentine’s Day (February, 1st) as their “good day” as well. What is more, the preference for wedding in June may derive from an instinctive human urge that corresponds to the spring rut of animals. The trouble with this Darwin logic is that even supporting that early hominids displayed the estrus cycle of other animals5.2 Wedding FormsIn China, traditionally, the boy hosts the wedding party in his house. With society changing, there appear variety of wedding forms, such as traditional ceremony, all-together ceremony (including dancing party ceremony, musical party ceremony, open-air ceremony and so on). Traveling, wedding which is popular among young group appears in modern times, they can see the famous views and climb famous mountains in China or aboard, if the economic condition allows. After this trip, they become a lawful couple. With the change of people’thought, there appear several brief and simple weddings: advertisement ceremony, post ceremony, tea party ceremony, and family-dancing party. What is more, double-to-one ceremony, which means the registries and the wedding are hold together once. Church wedding comes into China especially in larger and developed cities because of people’ thought and mind changing and civilizing and cultural communication between China and foreign countries, Characteristic wedding, the snowing wedding is staged in Zhaolin Park, Harbin province. In western countries, religious wedding ceremony is their major trend, but some couples prefer a civil wedding ceremony. Such weddings usually take place in commercial wedding chapels or receptionhalls, courthouses or other governmental offices. These events trend to be smaller and less formal affairs than traditional religious ceremonies. A judge or some other authorized official performs the ceremony in the presence of at least two witnesses. They choose their own style of colors, decorations and music during the ceremony. Some people get married outdoors in a scenic spots, a few even have the ceremony while skydiving, jumping bungee or swimming under the water.5.3 Wedding InvitationIn China, people also emphasize the wedding invitations, more than several days before the wedding day, the groom’s family should write down and send out the wedding invitations. However, the groom’s respected relatives, such as his uncles and aunts but ignoring other ordinary relatives and friends instead of oral words, monopolize the wedding invitation. While sending out the wedding invitations, the groom’s family should add some little gifts with it. In rural areas, people still write the invitation on well-cut red papers, which include the greetings, contents, date and other relevant information. But in modern time and urban area, people purchase the printed wedding invitation, and you just fill the gaps according to your command. In western countries, the wedding invitation is bride’s affair. The bride’s family decides what kind of people should send out invitation. They send out the invitation in the name of bride’s side and state “your presence is requested”at the marriage of their so-and-so. For example, Mr. Green and Mrs. Green request your presence at the marriage of their daughter “Jenny (Jenny should get another line) to Mr. Edward”. Notice that Edward comes last. Of course, there change in the wind. The bride and the groom today issue some invitations jointly.5.4 Tools for Picking Up BrideIn ancient China, for the poor, the groom used donkey to receive the bride, who rode to groom’s family, or employed a stronger man who could back the bride from the bride’s house to groom’s house, the bride’s feet could not touch the ground between two places, the employee had to back the bride to groom’s house without any pause or delay because of the poor transportation and traditional customs. For the high-heeled people, the groom would order several servants to shoulder a luxury and wonderful sedan decorated with red flowers made of flamboyant and advanced satin and show off their power and social status. Even after new China founded, this ceremony were adopted widely in remote rural areas where the transportation was poor. Moment the bicycle appearing, bike, tractor, bus and saloon car play an important role in obtaining the bride.
