Earth, as a remark has it, provides enough to satisfy every man’s need, but not every man’s greed. In other words, natural resources of the world are abundant enough to meet the demand of human beings. Nevertheless, should people exploit natural resources of the Earth recklessly and excessively, these resources would be exhausted one day. Simple as the remark may sound, it conveys a thought-provoking notion that we should effectively protect, rationally exploit and economize on natural resources.

Saving such resources as water, coal, oil and wood could ensure the sustainable development of the society and environment. Otherwise, nothing would be left for the future generation. The Amazon rainforest, which is called the lung of the Earth, is a case in point. Due to deforestation, the area of the Amazon rainforest has been dwindling year by year and many species there are endangered.

In short, we have only one Earth. On no account could we exploit natural resources excessively. Hence, it is imperative for us to cherish and protect the nature for the benefit of future generations and ourselves. Only in this way can we preserve a beautiful, harmonious, abundant and varied world.

2.Man and Environment

The world we live in is becoming more and more intolerable because of environmental destruction. Bird flu and Sars are two typical examples that environmental destruction may threaten our life. Besides, forest destruction , water and air pollution result in decrease of planting land and unpleasant weather.

Serious as the problem seems, we can come up with some measures to deal with it. First of all, the authorities should adopt the policy of “sustainable development”, and laws concerning environmental protection should be put into effect and enforced strictly just as our government has been doing.

What' s more, every citizen should realize the seriousness of the problem and make concerted efforts to protect our environment. In addition, planting trees helps improve and beautify the environment.

People have been living on the Earth for thousands of years. Human activity influences the Earth. Some people believe that the Earth is being harmed by human activity. Human activity has damaged natural environment and almost exhausted natural resources. Modern industry needs more and more resources, Including minerals, fuels and water. So we confront of the serious problems such as the lack of fuels and water. Ecological balance is damaged because factories occupy many places where animals and plants live. More and more buildings are constructed and forests become less and less. If we cannot recognize these problems and solve them soon, we would finally lose the environment suitable for our living. An other serious problem is the green-house effect. Human activity decreases forests and increases the usage of fuels so that the gas of carbon dioxide is output more and more and there are not enough plants to absorb it. The green-house effect is more obvious and more sensible these years. Due to the effect, icebergs in the south polar and north polar melt and the sea level becomes higher than before. I am worried about the cities nearby the sea and hope scientists find an effective method to eliminate the green-house effect.

Although we have advanced machines and our life seems more comfortable than before, we have less chances to approach natures and less spaces to act. The cities become bigger and if we want to have a picnic with our friends, we have to drive a long distance to find a natural place. In fact, the spaces of human activity are being damaged by the skyscrapers and factories. From the above statements, we can conclude that human activity brings the Earth many damages. Fortunately people have recognized the point and I believe that the Earth will become a better place to live with our ceaseless efforts.

4.Economic Development and Environmental Protection

Economic development and environmental protection are a pressing issue primarily for developing countries where, in trying to catch up with developed countries, they have to consume natural resources on an unprecedented scale. This has seriously polluted our environment and, with the global environmental campaign gaining momentum, many people in China call for the precedence of environmental protection over economic development.

Any attempt to pose economic development and environmental protection as diametrically contradictory is simple-minded. Since no country is willing to stop its economic development, the best way is to strike a balance between the two and to heighten the environmental awareness of those solely concerned with economic development.

European countries both economically developed and environmentally friendly can serve as perfect examples for China. Their success story in both undertakings illustrates that environmental protection does not mean a complete standstill of economic activities or exploitation of natural resources, but rather an active development and application of effective technologies to minimize environmental consequences. In Germany, environmental protection has become part of economic development as it boasts the world’s most successful environmental industry. With a developed economy, we are well equipped to develop sophisticated technologies that can effectively safeguard our environment.

The relationship between economic development and environment protection is a complex one. For modern men, neither a primitive society which is perfectly ecologically friendly nor an industrial civilization which is ecologically hostile is what we want. Environmental problems arise as a result of industrialization and only technologies can deliver solutions to those problems. Rather than simply returning to the past of non-human activity, we can seek active technological solutions in solar energy and wind energy to replace fossil fuels. By the time this key contributor to environmental deterioration is eradicated, man will achieve a win-win result between economic

development and environmental protection.

二、爱情与婚姻

1.On Marriage（论婚姻）

Marriage is a gamble. I may have a wife whose personality corresponds to mine but I also may have a wife who only cares about herself and can't tolerate my shortcomings. if my wife is the latter kind, quarrels will become routine. It is not warmth and love that fill the home, but eternal complaints and even hatred divorce will become the only thing that can put an end to our mutual bitterness.

I will do my best to make my marriage a happy one. Although I may feel depressed and discouraged, I will spare no effort maintain a happy marriage. I will choose my wife based not only on appearance but also on character. After we get married, I will tolerate her weaknesses and appreciate her strength. I will show more concern, affection and love for her than she shows for me. Marriage is a gamble, but we still have a chance of winning a big prize.

2.My View on College Students’ Cohabitation

Nowadays, premarital cohabitation is common and popular and this phenomenon has extended to the campus. More and more college student lovers choose to live together off campus. This phenomenon has aroused great public concern and there are much discussion on its advantages and disadvantages。

Admittedly, college students’ cohabitation has its advantages. One of them is that the lovers can know each other better by living together. They can decide whether their romantic relationship should go on. Secondly, cohabitation matures college students and improves their sense of responsibility. However, there are also many problems resulting from the cohabitation on campus.

A good example to illustrate this point is that some girls might be hurt by their irresponsible boyfriends. Besides, living together will involve many trivial things, which of course will influence their study。

From my point of view, it is unwise for college student lovers to live together during their education. After all, premarital cohabitation is not an easy thing, which is too early for college students who are not mature enough. Therefore, I suggest that the college students should take love seriously and do not choose to live together before graduation。

Love is an essential human attribute, which matures as individual matures. Marriage is a natural and extremely effective milieu for the development of love. So the love between a man and a woman leads to a marriage. Marriage brings about a family. The family provides a framework for each family member to grow as a person in love and security. So it is reasonable to say that marriage is a bridge of love and family.

Love is the base of marriage, and marriage is the development of love. In the past, people used to marry without their own consent, that is, without their own experience of love, the parents arranged the marriage. Two persons, a man and a woman, who were entirely strangers, were united in wedlock, and became husband and wife. They had known nothing of each other before, and of course, love was a sealed book to both. This type of marriage often leads to unhappiness. Tragic stories about ill-matched couples were often heard. So love is the foundation of marriage, and a marriage without love won’t be a happy one. And nowadays, with the development of society, love becomes more noble, rich, fine and subtle. Therefore, love is sometimes romantic;

the lovers don’t pay too much attention to the trivial of daily life. Some people fall in love at first sight and rush into marriage. They usually neglect the commitment a marriage demands. They may come across with some problems in their marriage that is likely to end up with a divorce. This seems to prove that love in a marriage is not so romantic as one often imagines, but as practical as mutual respect and compromise in the common life of a family.

Family in this sense is the extension of marriage. A family based on a marriage may last if it fulfills the function of reproduction. However, nothing can be more effective for a family to fulfill its function than love. Love between a husband and a wife, love between parents and children and love between all the family members can pave the way for all the family to a bright future. The families that could survive the hardships and develop from generation to generation are characterized by love and harmony.

In a word, love is the base of marriage and family. One f amous man once said,“ In a world of existence, there is indeed no greater power than the power of love.” In a marriage, love needs to be manifested in a cooperative and sharing manner. And with a happy marriage, the family will be happy.

4.Marriage, love and freedom

You are asking, "Is it possible to be married and to be free?"

If you take marriage non-seriously, then you can be free. If you take it seriously, then freedom is impossible. Take marriage just as a game -- it is a game. Have a little sense of humor, that it is a role you are playing on the stage of life; but it is not something that belongs to existence or has any reality -- it is a fiction. But people are so stupid that they even start taking fiction for reality. I have seen people reading fiction with tears in their eyes, because in the fiction things are going so tragically. It is a very good device in the movies that they put the lights off, so everybody can enjoy the movie, laugh, cry, be sad, be happy.

If there was light it would be a little difficult -- what will others think? And they know perfectly well that the screen is empty -- there is nobody; it is just a projected picture. But they forget it completely. And the same has happened with our lives. Many things which are simply to be taken humorously, we take so seriously -- and from that seriousness begins our problem. In the first place, why should you get married? You love someone, live with someone -- it is part of your basic rights. You can live with someone, you can love someone.

Marriage is not something that happens in heaven, it happens here, through the crafty priests. But if you want to join the game with society and don't want to stand alone and aloof, you make it clear to your wife or to your husband that this marriage is just a game:"Never take it seriously. I will remain as independent as I was before marriage, and you will remain as independent as you were before marriage. Neither I am going to interfere in your life, nor are you going to interfere in my life; we will live as two friends together, sharing our joys, sharing our freedom -- but not becoming a burden on each other. And any moment we feel that the spring has passed, the honeymoon is over, we will be sincere enough not to go on pretending, but to say to each other that we loved much -- and we will remain grateful to each other forever, and the days of love will haunt us in our memories, in our dreams, as golden -- but the spring is over.Our paths have come to a point, where although it is sad, we have to part, because now, living together is not a sign of love. If I love you, I will leave you the moment I see my love has become a misery to you. If you love me, you will leave me the moment you see that your love is creating an imprisonment for me."

Love is the highest value in life: It should not be reduced to stupid rituals. And love and freedom go together -- you cannot choose one and leave the other. A man who knows freedom is full of love, and a man who knows love is always willing to give freedom. If you cannot give freedom to the person you love, to whom can you give freedom? Giving freedom is nothing but trusting. Freedom is an expression of love. So whether you are married or not, remember, all marriages are fake -- just social conveniences. Their purpose is not to imprison you and bind you to each other; their purpose is to help you to grow with each other. But growth needs freedom; and in the past, all the cultures have forgotten that without freedom, love dies. You see a bird on the wing in the sun, in the sky, and it looks so beautiful. Attracted by its beauty, you can catch the bird and put it in a golden cage. Do you think it is the same bird? Superficially, yes, it is the same bird who was flying in the sky; but deep down it is not the same bird -- because where is its sky, where is its freedom?

This golden cage may be valuable to you; it is not valuable to the bird. For the bird, to be free in the sky is the only valuable thing in life. And the same is true about human beings.
