Big Momma’s House is an American comedy made in 2001. The hero, who is a
FBI agent, is performed by Martin Lawrence, and his partner, John, is Paul Giamatti
and the heroine they are monitoring is Sherry, performed by Nia Long. It is set in a
peaceful town in Georgia where the hero disguises himself as an extremely fat big
mama to get close to the heroine, whose former husband has fled away from the jail
with stolen money still not found. When doing the assignment, the “big mama” made
many amusing actions, and for several times he almost cannot hide the secret, but he
has done very good work and, both as the indemnification of big mom and himself,
has won Sherry and her son’s favor. In the same time, however, the criminal is
looking for Sherry too. Ultimately, it was really happened that he and the “real” big
mom had both arrived at big mom’s birthday party, just after the hero found out that
Sherry is innocent. So the movie happily ends with the criminal’s being arrested and
the hero and the heroine becoming a couple.
This film won great money in few days. All of that credits should be mainly
given to the idea of “disguising as a big mama”. With this, the following amusing
point all seems to be autonomous. The character has inherent amusements like huge
breast and rude habits. To be example, a frame is just captured from the hero’s view
when he is walking downstairs, and in the bottom of the frame, two huge breast shield
a small half of the world. Secondly, it also has many climaxes which push the FBI
agent to embarrassing circumstance, but his fast and funny reaction fascinates
audience and is the very thing audience is expecting to see. Besides, dozens of
supporting players with various characteristics is eyes-attractive and interesting, for
instance, the pregnant woman who just appeared few minutes, but her hot temper has
left deep impression in my mind. They are all ordinary people in daily life, and daily
life is where the humor comes from.
The film also has other element going together with happiness like the warm
heart of the people, the doubt that whether Sherry is guilty, and the danger which is
brought by occasional appeared, dark and dangerous frame saying the movement of
the criminal. These elements on the one hand advance the plot, on the other hand,
have made the film colorful.
