No cellphone class, Higher learning efficiency
Nowadays, Suzhou University made an attempt to create a cellphone-free class, which aroused much attention and discussion among us students. People's views on the policy vary from person to person. Some hold that cell phone-free class will help students improving their learning efficiency. However, others believe that mobile phone can facilitate our learning, we can't live without it even if it is time for class. In my opinion, It’s convenient use mobile phones to some extent, taking notes for example, but in fact, its existence has greatly reduced our learning efficiency.
At first, carrying your phone in class will reduce your attention. As the old saying goes “You can’t study and watch television at the same time unless you have two heads.” While your attention is focused on sending a text on WeChat or QQ, you are obviously not listening to the teachers or to a class discussion. If you often check your phone just during class time, you may take lower-quality notes, get less knowledge, and do worse on tests at last.
What’s more, playing phones in class will not only reduce your own learning efficiency, but also affect other classmates. According to a research report, 27% of the students indicated that they also had the urge to pick up their mobile phones when they saw other students playing cell phones.
Some students may argue that with a cell phone in hand, you can look up new words easily and take photos when you can’t follow teacher’s notes. Admittedly, phones can be a good learning tool if you use it properly. However, one study by researchers shows that 92 percent of the students surveyed reported using their cellphones to send text messages in class and most students admit to using their phones an average of 11 times per day in class. It’s obvious that carrying a mobile phone in class is far more harmful than beneficial.
Taking all these factors into consideration, we naturally come to the conclusion that refraining from using our phones during class time will be more beneficial to our study.
