Hamlet(WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE)Shakespeare: An IntroductionAny discussion of Shakespeare is the Renaissance distinguished British dramatist and poet. In the course of a quarter century, Shakespeare wrote some thirty-eight plays. Taken individually, several of them are among the world's finest written works; taken collectively, they establish Shakespeare as the foremost literary talent of his own Elizabethan Age and, even more impressively, as a genius whose creative achievement has never been surpassed in any age.The name of work and type introductionWhole name:(The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark)abbreviation:Hamlet"Hamlet" written by William Shakespeare in 1599 to 1602 years in a tragedy."Hamlet" is the longest drama of all the Shakespeare . Hamlet's uncle, Claudius, has inherited the throne and taken the former king’s wife (Prince Hamlet’s mother), Gertrude, as his own. Prince Hamlet is greatly grieved by the subrogation of Claudius to the throne and Gertrude’s hasty remarriage to her departed husband’s brother, whom Prince Hamlet considers hardly worthy of comparison to his father.reason for why I like itShakespeare created Hamlet--a man with wisdom and courage .In order to revenge on his uncle for killing his father, he pretended to be mad and suffered a series of misery. On the contrary, we can also say that Hamlet is rude and selfish for he did not think twice before his revenge . if a country has no king, how can a country keep alive. So, every thing has two sides, the bright side and adumbral side. Every time we make a decision we have to think twice.。

Title: Analyzing the Tragic Flaws of HamletWilliam Shakespeare's "Hamlet" is a profound exploration of the human condition, focusing on themes of revenge, madness, and moral corruption. At the heart of this tragedy is the character of Prince Hamlet, whose internal struggles and tragic flaws drive the narrative. The play begins with Hamlet grappling with the recent death of his father, King Hamlet, and the hasty remarriage of his mother, Queen Gertrude, to his uncle, Claudius. The ghost of Hamlet's father reveals that he was murdered by Claudius, prompting Hamlet to seek revenge. However, Hamlet's response to this revelation is complex and reveals his tragic flaws. One of Hamlet's most prominent flaws is his indecision. Despite knowing that he must avenge his father’s death, Hamlet constantly delays taking action. He contemplates the moral implications of revenge and questions the nature of existence itself, famously soliloquizing, "To be or not to be: that is the question." This intellectual paralysis prevents him from acting decisively, causing him to miss critical opportunities and ultimately leading to his downfall. Hamlet's obsession with his own existential crisis further complicates his actions. His deep philosophical introspection and melancholic demeanor create a barrier between him and the world around him. This self-absorption not only isolates him from his friends and family but also fuels his erratic behavior, which is perceived as madness. His feigned insanity becomes a double-edged sword, as it alienates him from those who might have supported him and leads to tragic misunderstandings.Another significant flaw is Hamlet's tendency toward rashness. Although he meticulously plans his revenge, his actions often become impulsive and reckless. For instance, Hamlet kills Polonius, thinking he is Claudius, which escalates the conflict and results in further tragedy. This impulsiveness highlights Hamlet’s internal conflict and lack of control, which ultimately leads to a chain of events culminating in his own death. Moreover, Hamlet’s tragic flaws contribute to the play's exploration of moral ambiguity. His struggle with the ethics of revenge and his contemplation of death reflect a deep philosophical engagement with themes of justice and mortality. However, his inability to reconcile these issues with action leads to devastating consequences not only for himself but for those around him.In conclusion, Hamlet’s tragic flaws—his indecision, philosophical obsession, and impulsive actions—are central to the play's dramatic tension and thematic depth. Shakespeare uses Hamlet’s character to delve into complex questions of morality, existence, and the nature of human action. The tragedy of Hamlet lies in his failure to overcome his flaws and take decisive action, resulting in a profound and moving exploration of the human condition.。

Hamlet(哈姆雷特)教学课案

The tragedy of Hamlet/ Prince of Hamlet/ (more simply)HamletPlot:The play, set in Denmark, recounted the story of Prince Hamlet’s revenge. Young Hamlet, prince of Denmark, came home from boarding school to find his father, King Hamlet, dead. To make matters worse, he did not get the throne as his uncle, Claudius, had married Hamlet’s mother Gertrude and taken the kingship. Hamlet was invited by his father’s ghost, who told him it was Claudius did the murder and that Hamlet must revenge for him. The rest of the play involved Hamlet’s pursuit of evidence and of an opportunity to kill the new king. And finally he succeeded. Background information:In that time, bourgeois democratic thought won support among many people. The advanced idea was in great contrast with the old feudal system. The play Hamlet reflected the social reality of that time. What’s more, Shakespeare expressed his humanism idea and his concern for the future of the people. In fact, during that time, because of the distant between ideal and reality, Shakespeare’s writings had transferred from glorifying humanism into criticizing the reality. Now, let’s analyze the play in detail.Hamlet had a tragic life. In fact, his life is not to be like that. It was he who chose his own life. In other words, he can live his life without sorrow and anxiety; however, he chose to explode the truth of his father’s death. When the truth was exposed, the only thing filling his mind was revenge. So what are the leading factors forcing him to revenge? I think the first thing was love and loyalty. As a matter of fact, love and loyalty ran through the play from the beginning to the end. That is to say all what happened are connected with love and loyalty.Details:Love:1. between Hamlet and Ophelia2. between the dead king and his QueenDisloyalty:1. Ophelia betrayed Hamlet2. the Queen betrayed the dead KingLoyalty:1. Hamlet to his father2. Horatio to HamletAnalysis of major charactersHamlet:Melancholy – Father’s deathHis disappoint with his motherImpulsive –When he stabs Polonius through a curtain without even checking who he isNo premeditating through the whole payLooking down upon women –His words often indicate his disgust with all distrust of women in generalHesitation – He thinks a lot before actionTo be or not to beOn finding out the murderClaudius:Shrewd – kill he brother and get the throneLustfulCorrupt politician – always have partiesSkillful at language speech – persuading to kill HamletGertrude:Desire for station and affectionUse a man to fulfill her instinct for self-preservationFragile/ brave – former king’s deathHamlet’s madnessBecoming the wife of ClaudiusTo know the plot and understand the characters better, we rehearsed a fragment of the play. The script is on the last page of the plan paperThe play Hamlet reflected a lot of themes. We mainly analyzed two themes: madness and gender discrimination.Madness:In Hamlet, Shakespeare incorporates a theme of madness with two characters: Ophelia & Hamlet. Ophelia is definitely mad, while Hamlet is frequently disputed. Some think his madness is all an act, but some think over the course of the play, his mental state deteriorates to a point where it is accurate to call him truly mad.Different people hold different view upon this issue. And the different understanding of Hamlet’s madness stems from different plots of two important plots in the play. One is (act 3 scene1), after he say he did love Ophelia, and he reverses and resists not, even insults his lovely girl.Another is (act3 scene4) his murder of his uncle in his mother’s bedroom even without knowing who it is hiking there. Some people think those impulsive actions prove to be true mad, here, I want to share my understanding. In my opinion, it is all an act.First, after his pretending of madness, Hamlet becomes a very alert man, watchful to everybody. He always doubted somebody is tempting him, so he behaves like this.Second, his murder of his uncle is really very impulsive, but this can not prove his true madness. He shows his sadness and regrets after he knows what he actually does. There is also much textual evidence in this play. One is after he sees Ophelia’s suicide; he shows his sorrow, if he is actually mad,how can explain those painful words.Another is in the last part, he killed his uncle, if he is actually mad, and how can he recognize his enemy.Above those, I can safely draw a conclusion that hamlet’s madness is all an act. Gender discrimination“frailty, the name is woman,”so said Hamlet in this play. This attitude stems from his disgust to his mother’s sexuality and seeming unfaithfulness to his dead father. When Claudius warns Hamlet that his grief is “unmanly”, Hamlet refers to himself as a promiscuous woman but not a promiscuous man. This shows that Hamlet is a pure sexist. This outlook eventually spills over include all women, especially the hapless Ophelia, who has virtually no power to control any thing, even over her own body.At the same time, Hamlet’s association between women and deception also shows that he is a hesitative person.Hamlet’s attitude towards women also shows that at that time women’s social status was very low.Evaluation of the play of HamletThe play vividly charts the course of real and feigned madness –from overwhelming grief to seething rage –and explores themes of treachery, revenge, incest and moral corruption.Hamlet is one of the most quoted works in the English language. There is a story of some people who read Hamlet for the first time and said,” I don’t see why people admire that play so. It is nothing but a bunch of quotations strung together.” From that we can see how frequently quoted and widely spread it is in the modern world. And it is often included on lists of the world’s greatest literature. It also reverberate through the writing of later centuries.Adapted movies:王子复仇记1948, 1990, 1996, 2000, 2009The 1948 version was recognized as the most classical versionIn contrast with other versions, most of us will like the 1990 version. Though highly commercialized, it sticks the most closely to the original work of Shakespeare.。

His fate inevitably struced into the fierce conflicts. Hamlet 's dilemma is the the symbol of expression when people lost faith in the European Renaissance .There is a famous saying well said "character determines destiny", Hamlet's tragedy character for his tragedy destiny buried the foreshadowing.Though Hamlet indecision buthe yearning light, hate evil.Time and environment determined his personality, and his personality decided his fate. Hamlet is an era of synthesis and the epitome of the history, his complex character and tragic life have inseparable relations with time and environment . Humanism began to rise, the status of theology continue to drop, the people's awareness of the value of its rising, respect people, respect for life, the pursuit of value concept begins with universal meaning; On the other hand, the feudal backward ideas but still stubborn, over the people's thinking and action of the shackles far from disappearing. Although during the Renaissance religious consciousness in people's concept became weak but more as a kind of spiritual strength it is ingrained. Hamlet as a trained education prince he has his own beliefs, this kind of idea is cranky. Still, the release of emotion represents a kind of social progress. So he become indecision. His world overnight change, the ideal is broken by the cruel reality, , this also means that his humanistic ideal and faith burst. His idea to the person is moved, he began to suspect human nature . And these are the special time of the Renaissance humanists own weakness cause of tragedy. Environment is the place of a person's life, action conditions, the formation and development of personality. Objective according to the environment mutation that Hamlet's mood is disrupted, produce a kind of without relying on the fracture feeling, he sank into a depression, lost, almost screwy state; And in the process of revenge, Hamlet those successful actions are in the right environment under the action of the obtained. To a great extent, environment made Hamlet's tragedy life.Hamlet's tragedy life represents people's speculation during the humanism period. Hamlet is the representative of humanism, his tragedy is a comprehensive result of the power of the feudal class objectively relatively strong, humanist strength relatively weak and humanist's subjective limitation。
