People Management。

个人偏好于《经济学家》,因为:1.时评难度较高;2.语言风趣幽默、有感情色彩;

3.有意思的句子很多;

THEREFORE\SO\BECAUSE\INCASE\SINCE等

Report、Proposal。

【A:I‘ve noticed that you have been late for work recently.】【B:

Someone told me that you have been```】你会选哪个?我会用A。

【I am glad to inform you that```】,后来才发现不是全部事情都是glad的~

A,please answer my question.”

【Can I start now?】,她有点吃惊。

By March 1999 both shares were worth about $100. AOL shares then shot up, almost doubling in value within four weeks. They reached a high of $180 in mid-April before collapsing to just over $100 per share at the beginning of May. There was a slight recovery during that month however, despite this by June 1999 the price of AOL shares was once again about $100. In contrast, despite minor fluctuations, IBM shares made a steady recovery over the three month period, finishing at just over $100, almost equal to AOL.

· Which type does each sentence (1--7) describe? · For each sentence mark one letter A, B, C or D on your Answer Sheet. A Many companies in the U. S. begin to realise that investors demand financial reporting to be truly presented: creative accounting is no longer acceptable. In response to the criticism about how it booked the gain on the sale of one of its businesses. IBM announced on Feb. 19th that it would expand the informaton it provides investors on such things as its intellectual-property income and the impact on earnings of the company's overfunded pension plan. And a day later, General Electric Co. Chairman and Chief Executive Jeffrey R. Immelt also pay heed to investors' calls for better disclosure by promising to provide more detail on how the company's individual units —including its finance departrment. GE Capital —churn out their earnings. B Expect this lifting of the veil to spread rapidly throughout corporate America, In the wake of Enron's collapse and questionable accounting at telecommunications companies such as Global Crossing Ltd., investors are demanding better. more frequent, and more expansive information about companies' financial health. This rising pressure will force executives in boardrooms across the country to wrestle with exactly how much new information to reveal, much less the question of how to flag changes for investors without causing their stocks to tank. "GE and IBM are bellwethers," says Patrick S. McGurn, vice-president at proxy advisory service Institutional Shareholder Services Inc. "You will see a huge wave of imitation." C Of course, that's good for shareholders —and for the long-term health of the market, But the tsunami of new disclosures, unfortunately, isn't necessarily what the recovering economy needs right now. The trick will be to strike the right balance. Companies that reveal too little, too late will get punished in the market. But dumping too much on shareholders may only muddy the picture further. "If you give too much information, people can get overwhelmed by the minutia, and the important stuff gets buried." says Charles M. Elson, director of the Centre for Corporate Governance at the University of Delaware. D In fact, IBM and G E join a growing list of companies that have already been compelled to improve their disclosure, At Tyco International Ltd., which has been buffeted by concerns about its complex accounting and financial health, senior execs have begun holding weekly phone conferences with analysts and investors to address questions about its accounting and operations. Franchising giant Cendant Corp. has put detailed information on its Website about its off-balance-sheet entities, while hotel operator Marriott International Inc. recently provided details on write-offs it has taken for loan guarantees as well as some hotel-development projects.

1 the contact between coach and employee not solving all difficulties at work 2 the discussion of how certain situations could be better handled if they occur again 3 a coach encouraging an employee to apply what has been taught to routine work situations 4 coaching providing new interest to individuals who are unhappy in their current positions 5 coaching providing a supportive environment to discuss performance 6 employees being asked to analyse themselves and practise greater self-awareness 7 coaching enabling a company to respond rapidly to a lack of expertise in a certain area Coaching A Coaching involves two or more people sitting down together to talk through issues that have come up recently at work, and analysing how they were managed and how they might be dealt with more effectively on subsequent occasions. Coaching thus transfers skills and information from one person to another in an on-the-job situation so that the work experience of the coach is used to advise and guide the individual being coached. It also allows successes and failures to be evaluated in a non-threatening atmosphere. B Coaching means influencing the learner's personal development, for example his or her confidence and ambition. It can take place any time during an individual's career. Coaching is intended to assist individuals to function more effectively, and it is a powerful learning model. It begins where skills-based training ends, and helps individuals to use formally learnt knowledge in day-to-day work and management situations. Individuals being coached are in a demanding situation with their coach, which requires them to consider their own behaviour and question their reasons for doing things. C The coach professionally assists the career development of another individual, outside the normal manager/subordinate relationship. In theory, the coaching relationship should provide answers to every problem, but in practice it falls short of this. However, it can provide a space for discussion and feedback on topics such as people management and skills, behaviour patterns, confidence-building and time management. Through coaching, an organisation can meet skills shortages, discuss targets and indicate how employees should deal with challenging situations, all at short notice. D Effective coaches are usually those who get satisfaction from the success of others and who give time to the coaching role. Giving people coaching responsibilities can support their development, either by encouraging management potential through small-scale one-to-one assignments, or by providing added job satisfaction to managers who feel they are stuck in their present jobs. A coach is also a confidential adviser, accustomed to developing positive and effective approaches to complex management, organisational and change problems. In theory, the coaching relationship should provide answers to every problem, but in practice it falls short of this. Fall short of是关键词。
