When Brody, a 4-year-old Connecticut boy, was asked what wish he wanted to come true, his only dream was that he could be able to play outside.

Brody was born premature (早产) at 27 weeks, which caused him to overheat and burn easily. When Make-A-Wish Connecticut, an organization that creates life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses, hear d about Brody's request to play outside, they immediately jumped into action. “It's the most simple, most sweet wish, just to play outside but it seems to be the most difficult to realize.” said Debbie Artinian, the manager of Make-A-Wish Connecticut.

Artinian and her team determined that a temperature-controlled tent outside Brody's home where he could play and not be in the sun would be the best option. But they had to find a tent that could stand weather conditions like wind and snow and had the right material to block all UV rays. Luckily, Artinian found a company based in the United Kingdom that could design and make the tent. Make-A-Wish Connecticut learnt that Brody loves the beach, even though he is not able to go into water because of his backpack. So they filled the tent with water toys and a kids’ pool filled with balls to make Brody feel as much as possible like he's out at the beach.

In the mid-2000s, Waze Mobile co-founder Ehud Shabtai received a cutting-edge (尖端的) gift from girlfriend: a GPS. The expensive gift was supposed to be helpful. But straight out of the box, it was already out of date.

Acquired by Google in 2013, Waze’s value mainly lies in it s high rate of user involvement. Unlike traditional navigation apps that simply show directions, Waze asks its users to report accidents and other road conditions in real time, so other users can avoid the traffic by using an alternative route.

The goal be hind Waze’s approach is an ambitious one: not just avoid traffic, but end it altogether. Waze is finding new ways to put its loyal and active user base to use to make that vision a reality, including a plan to make carpooling (拼车) cool.

To be sure, traffic jams are troubling people all over the world. Waze has been quietly ahead of the game for some time. In 2013, when Waze was just a small digital-mapping business with limited resources it had something Google Maps and other competitors didn’t: richer GPS guidance thanks to its stream of live traffic reports from users.

These users were the basis of Shabtai’s plan to solve for his GPS device’s “silent” hardware: he grounded the app in software that could be perpetually updated by users, anywhere and anytime.

Waze Carpool is going straight to the heart of traffic jams, trying to get more drivers off the road and into carpools. The app has already connected tens of thousands of rideseekers with drivers willing to ferry them along a shared route, and that trend could be the answer to a traffic-free future.

Finding the Real You

Psychometric testing—personality testing—has been very popular nowadays as studies show their results to be three times more accurate in predicting your job performance. These tests are now included in almost all graduate recruitment (招聘) and are widely used in the selection of managers.

The most popular of these personality tests is the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). It is based on the theory that we are born with a tendency to one personality type which stays more or less fixed throughout life. You answer 88 questions and are then given your “type”, such as Outgoing or Quiet, Feeling or Thinking.

Critics of personality testing raise doubts about “social engineering”. Psychologist Dr. Colin Gill warns that the “popular” personality traits (特性) have their disadvantages. “People who a re extremely open to new experiences can be butterflies, going from one idea to the next without mastering any of them.” However, the psychometric test is here to stay, which may be why a whole sub-industry on cheating personality tests has sprung up. “It’s possible to cheat,” admits Gill, “but having to pretend to be the person you are at work will be tiring and unhappy and probably short-lived.”

So can we change our personality? “Your basic personalities fixed by the time you’re 21,”says Gill, “but it c an be affected by motivation and intelligence. If you didn’t have the personality type to be a doctor but desperately wanted to be one and were intelligent enough to master the skills, you could still go ahead. But trying to go too much against type for to o long requires much energy and is actually to be suffered for long. I think it’s why we’re seeing this trend for downshifting—too many people trying to fit into a type that they are not really suited for.”

Our interest in personality now exists in every part of our lives. If you ask an expert for advice on anything, you’ll probably be quizzed about your personality. But if personality tests have any value to us, perhaps it is to free us from the idea that all of us are full of potential, and remind us of what we are. As they say in one test when they ask for your age: pick the one you are, not the one you wish you were.

高三英语教学工作总结本学期以来，本人认真研究学生，关注学生，研究课标，梳理知识结构，有计划地落实复习计划，顺利地完成了教育教学任务。现将本学期教学工作总结如下：一、进行了英语学情分析。本学期本人继续担任高三年级普通班高三(3)班的英语课，本班学生自高一以来学生基础就很差，在基础知识上，本人进行‘亡羊补牢’但为时已晚矣，在一、二年级时期末考试有个把及格的，也都选入A班，所以一直以来，本人所带的班中期末考试很难见到有学生上90分，大多学生的考分都是在20分以上至60分以下，少部分学生在85分段以下至60分。几乎所有学生都感到英语特别难学，主要原因是他们几乎记不了最简单的单词，语法也没基础，所以对英语学习特别头疼。老师讲课听不懂，所以厌学情绪严重，学习态度上也不正，上课睡觉、搞小动作、玩手机游戏等现象不时出现，英语成绩难以提高。所以开学之初本人既对本班学情进行了认真细致的分析。在本学期日常教学中认真落实因材施教和因人施教的的措施。本学期各方面情况得以改观。二、把教学计划落到实处。

本年度教学工作重心即在进行基础知识的复习上巩固和加深对基础知识的理解和掌握，提升期解决问题的能力，所以教学工作安排上把重心放在了对课本知识的复习上。三轮复习中，首轮复习内容是初三英语课本，高一年级课本22个单元，高二年级课本20个单元。对这些内容的复习主要是：高考常用单词、短语，主要句型，基础语法等。平时复习中把高中英语复习语法项目中的13个专题适当融合进去。通过练习和讲解，增强学生对语法的理解和对英语用法的复习巩固。三、大量练习促进学生对基础知识的巩固和能力的提高。课本复习是学生能力提高的关键。从开学之初即对课本知识点认真归纳和总结，通过练习的形式进行学习反馈。金版新学案《高三总复习》的运用是今年教学工作的一大幸事。人教修订版高考复习版金版新学案《高三总复习》成了学生的良师，也成了我英语教学中的益友。无论是单元复习还是高中英语知识点专题训练都是题目中的精品。我立足于新学案《高三总复习》，认真把握好教学工作中的练习环节。四、听力训练是作好提高成绩保障。
