在初中阶段，考生要掌握近2000个单词。眼下，初三上学期即将结束，初三生的单词量要有1200至1300个左右。对于许多考生而言，关键是如何记牢这些单词。阅读记忆就是最好的方法之一。
“熟读唐诗三百首，不会做诗也会吟。”阅读一定数量的文章后就能具备一定语感，这对解答各类题目有很大帮助。所以，在学好教材的同时，考生要适当增加阅读量，在阅读中培养英语各方面能力。
阅读的过程一定是“泛读”。考生不要逐词逐句翻译，遇到生词也别急于查词典，要根据上下文去猜测，有些生词即使猜不出词义，只要对理解全文不产生影响，就不必去查词典。一篇文章文
字理解度只要有70%至80%即可，我们只要能理解作者的主要思想就达到目的了。
考生要选择合适的阅读材料。试题具有时代性和实际性，因此考生对平时阅读材料的选择要兼顾时事新闻、故事叙述、科普文章、经典文学作品等。
考生还可以依托课本的单元话题记忆词汇。词汇的复习以话题为切入点，这样能较容易地勾起对相关词汇的回忆;可把单词放在句子中记忆，关注句子含有的词组或常用搭配，利用上下句来猜测、记忆单词是一个好方法。
临考前，建议考生在一早起床或晚上睡前坚持听英语，跟着录音朗读。此外，最好找有范文的作文题目，先自己动笔写，然后再与范文进行对比，从而加以改进。
