这一带不仅少有生命,而且由此派生的干热风和流沙还时时威胁着绿州的生存,最富生命也最为诱人的是第三环--平原绿州,这里大部分属于山岭倾斜平原,由于火焰山体阻挡了由戈壁砾石带下渗的地下水,使在山体北缘形成一个潜水溢出带,,到处泉水出没,流量稳定,在井水的灌溉下,沿着火焰山北坡产生了许多块绿州,几乎每座村子都有自流泉和坎儿井。
吐鲁番又是中国最热的地方,日平均气温超过35度的日数达一百天以上,极端最高气温达49。

吐鲁番盆地的大风也是远近闻名的,这里的大风刮的很有规律,吐鲁番盆地的冬天一般气温在零下十度左右,很少刮风,下雪更是难提一见,由于少风,冬天盆地城市和地方上空是积聚一团的烟云,多日不散,使气温不致太低,可是从每年四月开始直至七月,几乎每日大风不断,风速超过每秒二十米的八级大风,年平均三十多次,最多一年达六十九次,有时还能达到十二级以上的聚风,所以束有“陆地风库”之称,“陆地风库”是怎样形成的呢?春季盆地受太阳辐射增温较快,盆地内热空气上升,形成地区性的热低压与盆地外由北方来的寒冷气流之间出现很大的气压差,引起空气对流,北边的寒冷空气迅速通过盆地外由北部天山的隘口,主要是达坂城白杨沟涌入盆地,来自这个方向的大风,持续时间长,风力特别急,对盆地影响也最大,八级大风能一连刮十几天,遇到超级大风,火车也要退回到大河沿站避避。
等大风过了再开,若是春夏之交来此,你准能体会到唐代边塞诗人岑参在《走马川行奉送封大夫出师西征》诗中的名句“一川碎石大如斗,随风满地石乱走”的情景,当地的老百姓都说,出门必带三件宝,“水壶,风镜,羊皮袄”,因为每年刮风的次数太多了,要防备在外野宿回不了。
吐鲁番虽然酷热少雨,得助于北部博格达冰雪融水的补给,地下水储量丰富,火州独特的地下水利工程-----坎儿井把地下水引向地面,浇灌着数十万亩良田,使沙漠变成绿州,整个吐鲁番盆地共有1200多条坎儿井,总长度超过5000公里,被人们称为我国古代与长城,运河并列的三大工程之一。
乌鲁木齐河发源于海拔4000多米的天山胜利达坂一号冰川,上游奔流在山区称大西沟,中游流经乌市称乌鲁木齐河,下游称老龙河,全长约210公里,乌鲁木齐河在山区测得的多年平均径流量为2。
36亿立方米,、水力蕴藏量为四十多万千瓦,沿河建有乌拉泊水库和红雁池水库,是乌市生活饮用水的来源。

在离地面二十米的空中,每秒3—20米的“有效风速”,每年都持续在6000小时左右,所谓的“有效风速”,是指既不太弱又不太猛的最适合用来发最的刮风速度,根据世界气向组织划分风能资源的等级标准,达坂城谷地被指认为“风能资源丰富区”,1989年首先由丹麦政府捐赠巨款,支持新疆在达坂城建成了当时亚州最大的风力发电场,接着,德国政府又于是1996年对达坂城风力发电场实施技术加资金的扩建援助,使达坂城风力发电的单机容量从100千瓦提高到600千瓦,从1998年六月十六日,第一台国产风机在达坂城风电场投产并网发电以来,目前已实现了全部的国产化率,而且目前这些风车全部实现电脑控制,每台风机的工作状况都被仔细地记录下来,目前由本新疆风能公司管理,这套管理系统是新疆风能公司与新疆工学院联合研制,它优越于进口软件的地方,是能够记录二十年达坂城谷地每分每秒风力变化的情况,目前达坂城谷地有国家风力发电企业的一百六十台风机,昼夜不停地旋转着使达坂城的风能转化成电能,源源不断地输入乌市电网,新疆风能公司的专家说,这些风机所利用的风,对达坂城谷地的风来说是九牛一毛,因为在这片谷地,年风能蕴藏量为250亿千瓦每小时,可利用总电能为75亿千瓦每小时,可装机容量为2500兆瓦,而目前这里的总装机容量还不足10万千瓦。

柴窝堡湖是乌市近郊最大的淡水湖,湖面海拔1092米,湖呈圆形,面积约29平方公里,平均湖深四米,湖最深六米,柴窝堡湖为山间凹陷底部蓄水而成的大湖,湖水湛蓝,风光秀丽,柴窝堡湖里盛产鲤鱼,草鱼,青鱼如今,在柴窝堡湖的西北岸建有游艇码头,并兴建了凉亭,宾馆等相应的旅游设施,这里成为乌市居民盛夏开展划船,垂钓,游泳,品尝湖蟹,鲜鱼的理想游乐休闲场所,由柴窝堡继续东行十公里,便可以见到洁白的盐湖,盐湖属于柴窝堡——达坂城谷地之中是一座咸水湖,盐湖有大,小湖之分,居西的是小盐湖,面积约四平方公里,居东的是大盐湖,面积约十五万平方公里,湖面海拔1072米。
两湖相距3公里左右,盐湖中的卤水矿化度高达300克/升,稍一搅拌,硕大的盐晶便从卤水中析出,盐湖中的主要矿物质成分有食盐,芒硝和石膏等,盐湖盐的储蓄为1200万吨。
这里的盐类的开采始于清朝光绪年间,开采历史忆逾100多年。
始建于1958年的新疆盐湖化工厂,现已发展成为一座全国大型综合性盐化工企业,生产盐,硝,洗涤剂三大系列近20多种产品,产品销往全国20多个省,市,自治区,部分产品出口日本,韩国,香港以及东南亚等国家和地区。
盐湖已成为新疆一座名副其实的银色的“聚宝盆“。
吐鲁番独特的地理条件对气候的影响特别大,盆地中心和边缘山区差异较大,一般说的吐鲁番气候都是以盆地中心为代表的,这一带地区七月平均气温在47度以上,35度的炎热日有100天之多,最高气温曾达到49.6度,夏季地表温度多在70度以上,听到这里,也许您已经开始担心了,如此炎热,我们该怎么办呢?别担心,虽说它的酷热居全国之冠,但在热天多的盛夏里,没有内地三大火炉的重庆、南京、武汉那样热的难以忍受,因为这里早晚温差大,热而不闷,所以您虽身居火洲,入夜却可酣然入睡,消除旅途的疲劳,不过也许有人会问为什么?因为这里年降雨量16、6毫米,蒸发量近达3000毫米,日照时间 2000小时以上,如此炎热干燥有没有河流流经,居民没有水该怎么办呢?那么我要给你提个醒,您还记得我刚说过吐鲁番四面环山吗/这些山顶的积雪,就是吐鲁番的水源,它们具有形成径流的良好条件,夏季暴雨和冰雪融水,即使吐鲁番地区径流的水流,又补充盆地地下水的来源。
但它们有一定季节性限制,所以河流水量就不稳定,那么我现在要问一个问题,那一种水补给最稳定呢?(地下水)对的,你答的很真确,而吐鲁番就是利用它们特殊的地下水坎儿井来弥补冬春水源不足的。
讲了它的入口、地形、气候、下面我们来谈谈它的历史。
因为吐鲁番吸引的地方除了香甜的葡萄瓜果,特殊的地貌,更吸引的是那沐浴了两千年风风雨雨依然屹立的交河,高昌古城,那历经浩劫却风采独存的柏孜克里克千佛洞和吐峪沟千佛洞壁画,还有那巧夺天工的苏公塔,如今从它们现存的遗迹中,也许你能依稀的看出当年他们是如何兵戈铁马征战沙场的。
吐鲁番古称:姑师,据《史记》、《汉书》记载,天山东部地区性的土著居民是姑师人(后称车师人),在公元前三世纪的时候,姑师人广泛分布在东部、天山南北两麓,中心就是吐鲁番盆地。
他的东面是定都长安的汉朝,西南面是西域各国,地面是拥有“挖玄之土三十万”的匈奴,汉朝经过七十多年的修养生息,在汉武帝继位后,国力强大与匈奴大战而争夺的焦点就是车师人所在的吐鲁番盆地,交战五次,史称:“五争车师”,最后匈奴投降,汉朝控制车师之地,于是神爵二年,分成车师前后王国,其中车师前王国就是吐鲁番盆地,车师前王国,又称前部。
都城在交河即现在的交河古城。
因为“河水分流绕城下,故名交河”。
今天仍然可以看到这一形势。
不过好景不长,在汉戊已校尉的保护伞下,车师前王国并没有安稳多久,到西晋灭亡,凉州独立,高昌兴起,从此盆地东部以高昌为中心的区域比交河城还发展更快。
后来形成了一个独立的王国,称高昌都。
虽然高昌远在西北边陲,但汉魏的文化传播到这里,儒家思想对其影响很深很广,就连西来的佛教也不例外。
随着历史的转变,北魏时柔然立高昌国。
不过它也是昙花一现。
后来被曲氏高昌王所代替。
曲氏高昌国的古城就在高昌,即今天的高昌古城。
