The Invisible Man  Chapter 1 Dad  My name is Peter, Peter White. I am nineteen years old and I don‟t go to school. That not because I‟m stupid. I am a good writer, and magazines love me. My pen name is “Mr. V”. Well, I am invisible. You might think that is so cool, I can do what I want. However, I‟m not like “Mystique” in X-man or “Invisible Girl” in Fantastic Four. They can make themselves invisible whenever they want, but I just can be an invisible guy forever. Nobody can see me. And if I want, nobody will know I still live in this world. When I was three years old, my crazy dad injected some special medicine into my vein. That is just a semi product medicine. Maybe my father supposed to make me a super hero, but he failed. And then, because of test it in human illegally, my father lost his job and his laboratory and his everything. He left me and my mom, and after that I never met him. Nobody knows where he went. Mom was so sad, and she told police I was dead. If not those scientist would take me away. So in a way, I am already dead. After father left us, my mother keep their search secretly to find a cure for me. She is such a scientist as brilliant as my father. But finding the cure is too difficult. And life is not that difficult, mom and I live a good life. But life sometimes could be so hard, especially when I realize that how difficult for me to have a girlfriend. I must be a handsome guy, believe me! When I was a little boy, I have golden curly hair and deep-set blue eyes. And now I am tall and muscular, and I believe I can be a good quarterback, and girls will love me. Well, be a writer is not bad. I have several pen pales, and they are also interesting. And today, I‟m going to have a date with one of them. Her name is Cherry, and she will wear a cherry brooch. I will bring a white rose to her. I wear a hooded big coat in order to hide my face in my hood. People will be scared when see something float in the air. You need to know, many people still believe there are ghost or something like that. I arrive at the café very early, and wait. Café is good place, people are working and talking and few people will notice you or your hollow hoop. Lady always late, but there she is, with a beautiful red cherry brooch. She is a tiny cute girl, as delicate and fair as a flower. She is short and thin, and the wind can easy blow down such a flower. Her face is not like a cherry. On the country, she is pale. She looks like a baby cat, elegant but still is a baby. That makes me love her more, this little girl. The waitress brings her to this table. She has beautiful purple eyes but stare blankly. She smiled and said:” Peter? I can smell the rose‟s fragrance.” “Yes……Oh, you never told me that you are blind. ”I stammer. “Do you mind this?” she sighed, “I‟m really sorry……” “No, that‟s wonderful!” I blurt out with great happiness. She looks really confusing. “ Well, I …… I‟m really ugly……” I explain, “and you are the girl who will not judge people by their looks. I think that‟s really good.” “Sounds you are very kind.” She smiles again, “you are good at writing, and your voice is as gentle as what you write.” Don‟t need to pretend like a normal person, I have a wonderful time with Cherry. We talk for almost four hours. And I suggest sending her to her home when it is dark outside. It the time to say goodbye, she says hesitatingly:” Could I tough your face? I want to know how you are looking like, and remember your face.” “Well, no problem.” I want to know how I‟m looking like either. She touches my face, and her finger is really soft and warm. Maybe her lips are softer and warmer, I think. ”I will paint a picture for you and give it to you next time.” “Next time? That‟s sound‟s pretty nice.” How smart she is! I smile. And she is into me! It‟s the darkest day in my life. When I arrived home and feel I‟m a luck man. I see my mom sit on the sofa. She was such a beauty, but her white hair makes she looks old. She looks so peaceful. And there are four words were written in lipstick on the table: “COME TO FIND ME.” And there is a note on the table, and an address was written on it. A warning on the back of the note:” Come! Or your mother will die because of you stupid decision.” I‟m afraid, and then I feel really angry. I don‟t want to hind. I want to show myself, to revenge. I don‟t take anything. But I wear a special close mom make for me. It‟s an invisible tight close. I go to there, a park. And it is at night, it‟s very dark. When I go in there, there is a big light turn on. I suddenly know what will happen. My shadow project on the ground clearly.
