外研版英语大赛作文Title: Embracing Diversity: A Journey of Understanding and Connection。

As globalization continues to shape our world, the importance of embracing diversity cannot be overstated. In today's interconnected society, understanding and appreciating different cultures, languages, and perspectives are essential for fostering mutual respect and cooperation. This journey of embracing diversity is not only enriching but also crucial for our collective progress and well-being.First and foremost, diversity enriches our lives by exposing us to new ideas and experiences. When we open ourselves up to different cultures and ways of thinking, we expand our horizons and break free from the confines of our own worldview. For example, by learning about the customs and traditions of other countries, we gain insight into the values and beliefs that shape their societies. This notonly fosters greater tolerance and acceptance but also encourages us to approach the world with curiosity and empathy. Moreover, embracing diversity promotes inclusivity and equality, ensuring that everyone has a seat at the table. In today's globalized economy, businesses and organizations are increasingly recognizing the importance of diversity in driving innovation and creativity. By harnessing the unique perspectives and talents of individuals from diverse backgrounds, companies can develop more innovativesolutions and better meet the needs of a diverse customer base. Additionally, embracing diversity in the workplace fosters a culture of respect and understanding, where employees feel valued for who they are rather than judged based on stereotypes or biases.Furthermore, embracing diversity fosters stronger connections and relationships within communities and across borders. When we take the time to learn about and appreciate different cultures, we build bridges that transcend language and cultural barriers. This not onlyenriches our personal lives but also strengthens diplomatic ties and promotes peace and cooperation on a global scale. By fostering a sense of unity and solidarity, embracing diversity empowers us to address shared challenges, such as climate change, poverty, and social injustice, collaboratively. However, embracing diversity is not without its challenges. It requires us to confront our own biases and prejudices, as well as to navigate the complexities of cultural differences. Yet, it is precisely through these challenges that we grow and learn as individuals and as a society. By engaging in open and honest dialogue, listening with empathy, and seeking common ground, we can overcome barriers and build a more inclusive and harmonious worldfor future generations. In conclusion, embracing diversity is not just a moral imperative but also a strategic necessity in today's interconnected world. By celebrating our differences and recognizing our shared humanity, we can create a more inclusive, equitable, and prosperous society for all. As weembark on this journey of understanding and connection, let us embrace diversity with open hearts and open minds, knowing that our differences are what make us stronger, more resilient, and more united as a global community.。

As Tina Brown, the Newsweek editor, said, this tablet edition will target a “new highly mobile, opinion-leading audience who want to learn aboutworld events in a sophisticated context.”The move should not shock. The publication has faced major financial problems in recent years. The numbers tell the tale: Newsweek’s circulation has fallen in the number of subscribers from 3 million to 1.5 million in the last decade; annual losses were thought to be $40 million. More broadly, the company faces a more existential problem in that a “weekly news”magazine has become an anachronism in the digital world.Newsweek is not the only one that has to tackle the challenge in the digital time; other outlets will continue to change their business models for a digital future. With the “imminent death”of print, digital formats come out as an inevitable development that could turn the industry’s fortune around.Sample task 2Read the following two paragraphs with contradicting views, and write a passage on the issue. Someday, they will entirely replace print books, and hopefully, that day will come soon. Many may argue that tablets are much more convenient than paper books. But not everyone sharesthis preference of tablets or finds them convenient. In fact, in a study conducted by Book Industry Study Group (BISG), it was found that 75% of college students preferred traditional textbooks in which they can highlight the key words and write notes. Also, some may suggest that it is cheaper toinvest in tablets than textbooks. In fact, in a 2008 study of public schools in Kentucky it was estimatedthat the cost of textbooks and supplies totaled around $44 million. The cost per school was around $988for textbooks and supplies. That is roughly the cost of only two tablets. To provide tablets to all thestudents in a school would be an enormous sum. You should state clearly whether you agree or disagree with the passage and explain your reasons for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should consider ways in which the author’s opinion might or might not hold true and explain how these considerations shape your position. You should write about 500 words. If you still think of the Internet as a means of opening up a vast world of information to people, you may be completely wrong. Playing a positive role in its early days, the Internet is now enclosing people in a walled room.Have you noticed that when different people google the same thing, for example, “Chinese culture” or “America”, they get different search results? Websites selectively guess which information is appropriate to a user based on his/her location, past-click behavior and search history, and tailor information and recommendations accordingly. The more one uses the Internet, the more likely one is kept away from different opinions, and trapped in one’s own cultural ideological bubble. The situation worsens when Internet-boosted social networks creep into every corner of our lives. Although there seems to be a large amount of information updated almost every second, the information is only available from people’s friend-circles or the subscriptions (公众号) they choose. Beyond these circles and choices, people do not really have access to the unknown. They become imprisoned in a confined world.。

2014“外研社杯”全国英语写作大赛决赛赛题Task 1 Narrative WritingRead the beginning of the letter below and then continue itfollowing the writer’s line of thought. Complete the letter in 600–800 words.A Letter on Father’s DayDear Dad,Today I was at the shopping mall and I spent a lot of time readingthe Father’s Day cards. They all had a special message that insome way or another reflected how I feel about you. Yet as Iselected and read them over and over again, it occurred to methat not a single card said what I really want to say to you. You’ll soon be 84 years old, Dad, and you and I will have had 55Father’s Days together. You know, Dad, there was a time when we were not only separated by a generation gap but completely polarized by it. You stood on one side of the Great Divide and I on the other, split apart by age and experience, opinion, hairstyle, clothing, curfew, music, and friends.…I love you, Dad.Task 2 Argumentative WritingRead the following paragraphs with contradicting views, and decide which side you will take. You should clearly state your opinions and support them with arguments and/or examples. You should write about 800 words. The evening galas to be aired during the coming Spring Festival on national and regional TV stations are now drawing the attention of Chinese audiences. Many netizens commented that last year’sgalas, from the China Central Television (CCTV) to local stations, went international. French film star Sophie Marceau and South Korean actor and singer Lee Min-ho were invited as guest performers to the CCTV’s Spring Festival Gala on New Year’s Eve, sparking a public controversy. Some people are excited about such famous foreign figures coming to China, and think that there is nothing wrong in inviting foreign stars to the Spring Festival evening galas, especially because a huge number of Chinese really do enjoy foreign celebrities, foreign music and exotic fashions since China started its reform and opening-up more than three decades ago. Some people, however, say it costs a lot more to invite foreign stars to a Chinese show. The money could be saved and used for nobler causes. They also think that a majority of the Spring Festival evening galas are put on for the grass-roots, farmers and workers for example. They ask: “Will these people be interested in foreign performers? There are plenty of stars they love here in China. Why don’t we bring them onto the stage?”2013年11月3日复赛赛题Task 1 Argumentative WritingTrying to decide between public school and homeschooling can be difficult. Read the following two paragraphs which present contradicting views. Write apassage about the issue, clearly stating your opinion and explaining your reasons. You should write about 500 words.Public schools provide children with many advantages both inside and outside the classroom. They generally have a range of children from a wide variety of backgrounds. This provides an opportunity for children to learn to negotiate with others, accepting and challenging other points of view, and learning to understand people with diverse backgrounds and values. The funding from the government allows public schools to offer an array of advanced classes in the arts, technology studies and the sciences, any and all of which might be difficult to provide by homeschooling parents who do not have specialized training. Public schools also expose students to a variety of teachers, which gives them an opportunity to learn from diverse pedagogies (教学方法).However, homeschooling also has benefits that can hardly be realized in public schools. One of the biggest advantages of homeschooling is the fact that the teacher, the parent, can give individual attention to the child. Homeschooled children often have a better understanding of lessons and cover more materials than their peers. In a familiar setting, children are more likely to actively participate in their lessons. Because homeschooled children do not have set hours, they can work at their own pace at any point during the day. Moreover, homeschooled children do not grow up with the pressure of trying to be like everyone else in order to fit in, so they are not so easily influenced by their peers.Task 2Expository WritingWrite a passage based on the two bar charts below. The charts show the age groups of Chinese mobile netizens (网民) and the types of apps (应用程序) they download. In your writing, you should summarize the features of the two charts and make comparisons to examine whether there is any connection between them. You should write about 500 words.。

The Most Beautiful Flower
The park bench was deserted as I sat down to read beneath the long, straggly branches of an old willow tree, disillusioned by life with good reason to frown, for the world was intent on dragging me down.
And if that weren't enough to ruin my day, a young boy out of breath approached me, all
tired from play. He stood right before me with his head tilted down an d said with great excitement, "Look what I found!" In his hand was a flower, and what a pitiful sight, with its petals all worn—not enough rain or light. Wanting him to take his dead flower and go off to play, I faked a small smile
and then shifted away. But instead of retreating he sat next to my side and placed the flower to his nose and declared with overacted surprise, "It sure smells pretty and it's beautiful, too. That's why I picked it; here, it's for you."
The flower before me was dying or dead. Not vibrant of colors: orange, yellow or red. But I knew I must take it, or he might never leave. So I reached for the flower, and replied, "Just what I need." But instead of him placing the flower in my hand, he held it mid-air without reason or plan. It was then that I noticed for the very first time that weed-toting boy could not see: he was blind.。
