Georgia, sell, objects
定位:用Georgia, sell, objects寻读,在文中找到信息源——She chose to sell a few larger objects that were less often used when we promised to put the money into her school fund (基金) (our kindergarten daughter is serious about becoming a doctor).
In Save Money:Good Food, she visits a different home each week and with the help of chef Matt Tebbutt offers top tips on how to reduce food waste, while preparing recipes for under£5 per family a day.And the Good Morning Britain presenter says she’s been able to put a lot of what she’s learnt into practice in her own home, preparing meals for sons,Sam,14,Finn,13,and Jack,11.

1:Far from viewing Jefferson as a skeptical but enlightened intellectual, historians of the 1960’s portrayed him as ______ thinker, eager to fill the young with his political orthodoxy while censoring ideas he did not like.an adventurousa doctrinairean eclectica judiciousa cynical此题解答有两种途径,一是从Far from体现的转折关系入手,空格应当体现和skeptical but enlightened的含义相反的意思,故a doctrinaire符合要求;一是从eager to…

一般包括直接理解题(在原文中可直接找到答案,常用who, what, when, where, why和how等提问。

When / Where did the story happen?Which of the following statements is (NOT) correct?Which of the following statements is (NOT) mentioned in the passage?Which is the right order of the events given in the passage? All the statements are true EXCEPT…

In the current study, the researchers found that the new drug had a ______ effect on the patients' symptoms, significantly reducing their pain and improving their overall quality of life.A. beneficial.B. detrimental.C. negligible.D. ambiguous.答案:A。

原因:从后面“significantly reducing their pain and improving their overall quality of life”(显著减轻他们的疼痛并改善他们的整体生活质量)可以看出,这个新药对病人症状起到的是好的作用。

W hat causes...?W hy does the au thor ment ion...?Ho w many...?W here in the passage does the au thor descr ibe...?W hat t ime does the wr i t er th ink is...?W hat does the au thor pay leas t a t t en t ion to...?Ho w many...does(d id)so mebody do someth ing?W here is...loca ted?W hat does(d id)somebody do?Ho w did someth ing happen?W hen was someth ing done?W hich of the fo l lowing people should(not)do?W e can see f rom...tha tThe fo l lowings are the reasons for...excep t解答这类题型宜用扫读法。

The author provides following which of the following examples in the passage?
1.Ⅰ only
2.Ⅱ only
3.Ⅲ only
4.Ⅰ & Ⅱ
5.Ⅱ & Ⅲ

The recent, apparently successful, prediction by mathematical models of an appearance of El Nino—the warm ocean current that periodically develops along the Pacific coast of South America—has excited researchers……
It has long been known that during an El Nino, two conditions exist: (1) unusually warm water extends along the eastern Pacific, principally along the coasts of Ecuador and Peru, and (2) winds blow from the west into the warmer air rising over the warm water in the east. These winds tend to create a feedback mechanism by driving the warmer surface water into a “pile” that blocks the normal upwelling of deeper, cold water in the east and further warms the eastern water, thus strengthening the wind still more. The
contribution of the model is to show that the winds of an El Nino, which raise sea level in the east, simultaneously send a signal to the west lowering sea level.According to the model, that signal is generated as a negative Rossby wave, a wave of depressed, or negative, sea level, that moves westward parallel to the equator at 25 to 85 kilometers per day.Taking months to traverse the Pacific, Rossby waves march to the western boundary of the Pacific basin, which is modeled as a smooth wall but in reality consists of quite irregular island chains, such as the Philippines and Indonesia.

It can be inferred from the passage that which of the following would result fairly immediately from the cessation of the winds of an El Nino?
I.Negative Rossby waves would cease to be generated in the eastern Pacific.
II. The sea level in the eastern Pacific would fall.
III. The surface water in the eastern Pacific would again be cooled by being mixed with deep water.
(A) I only
(B) II only
(C) I and II only
(D) I and III only
(E) I, II, and III
分析:

The contribution of the model is to show that the winds of an El Nino, which raise sea level
in the east, simultaneously send a signal to the west lowering sea level.According to the model, that signal is generated as a negative Rossby wave,

Ⅲ.这部分在文中的定位是winds blow from the west into the warmer air rising over the warm water in the east. These winds tend to create a feedback mechanism by driving the warmer surface water into a “pile” that blocks the normal
upwelling of deeper, cold water in the east and further warms the eastern water, thus strengthening the wind still more.
