Language requirements for all programmes, except Creative Writing
All teaching for the programmes is in English. We require all applicants whose first language is not English to have one of the following test results:
Academic IELTS details can be obtained from local British Council offices. The minimum requirement is an overall band score of 6.5 with no less than 6.5 in each of the four elements.
Applicants with Cambridge CAE require grade A or B. Those with Cambridge CPE require grade C or above. For the new Cambridge English Scale, a minimum of 193 points is required in either CAE or CPE.

Language requirements for Creative Writing

Those with Cambridge CPE require grade A, B or C. For the new Cambridge English Scale, a minimum of 200 points is required in cither CAE or CPE. These results should have been achieved in the same sitting, and no more than 2 years before the date of application.
In addition to meeting the above language requirements for Creative Writing, all applicants are required to submit a 300-400 word written piece, explaining their reasons for applying.

Nearly two decades after British writer J. K. Rowling introduced the famous boy wizard Harry Potter to the world in 1997, he is still making the news.
The opening of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park at Universal Studios in Hollywood in Los Angeles, USA, on April 7 brought the boy wizard's magical world to life. “It’s as close as you ever could be to a film in a theme park," Alan Gilmore, an art director for the new Wizarding World of Hairy Potter, told Entertainment Weekly.
From the start, visitors are greeted by a copy of the Hogwarts Express, the train that takes Harry Potter and his friends to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry every year.
After arriving at the school's castle, visitors can jump on the exciting "Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey" ride and take part in memorable scenes from Harry Potter. These scenes include flying above Hogwarts, taking part in a Quidditch match, escaping a dragon attack and avoiding a close meeting with the Whomping Willow(打人柳）.
Walking through the park, visitors can enjoy cobblestone streets, narrow alleyways and buildings with chimneys made to look like those in a real English village. For decades, archaeologists have wondered : Who or what killed the most famous boy king in history? Some experts thought that 19-year-old Tutankhamen had died in a hunting accident. Others said that he was murdered by a blow of the head.
Two years of DNA testing and CT scans may have finally solved the mystery of Tut's death. The teen pharaoh(法老），), scientists in Egypt now believe, was the victim of malaria(疟疾）, complicated by a bone disorder.
Even at his best, King Tut was no symbol of strength. "He was a weak boy who had a deformed foot and who needed a stick to walk," researcher Carsten Pusch told National Geographic.
Shortly before Tut died, in about 1324 B. C. , he may have broken his leg in a fall, the study's authors say. Because of a weak immune system, the pharaoh's leg couldn't heal, and a malarial infection (感染)）finished him off.
Tut was forgotten soon after his death. So why does he attract us today? In 1922, an archaeologist uncovered a group of royal tombs in Egypt’s Valley o f the Kings. Thieves had stolen most of the graves.
Only Tut's was untouched. Egypt fever swept the globe as workers unloaded the dazzling
treasures, hidden for more than 3,200 years, which had been meant to accompany the young pharaoh to the afterlife. In 1972, Tut's treasures began a series of tours around the world, giving millions of people a chance to view his golden burial mask and other relics up close.

All the men in Moxton worked down the mine because there was nothing else to do, unless you became a vicar (教区牧师）)or a professional footballer. And in the last ten years Moxton had had just one of each. Dennis Parker, who was small and very white, had gone down south to be a vicar and Jimmy Shaw was the nearest thing Moxton had to a famous son. The mine company ran the Working Men's Club, too. Some of the greatest comedians in the country came to Moxton to tell their jokes at the club. This was the 1930's. Radio was around but nobody was very interested. Television hadn't started at all. The comedians toured the country, telling the same jokes over and over again. People always ate the same things every day of the week in those days, too. There were few choices of food. Friday was always fish. There was always beef for Sunday dinner. That is of course if somebody was working to provide the money. No money and it was greens every day, if you were lucky. As late as World War II there were kids in the town who couldn't walk properly because they didn't get any vitamins. Rickets (佝偻病）they called it.
