片中不止一次地使用了延时镜头，如海豚加工厂的熙攘、市街头的攒动、峦间浮云速移和日月的须臾升降，无不体现出日子之快，时间从指缝中流走的匆匆。这些拉快了节奏的延时镜头，我们能看到的几秒钟，则拍摄起来需要耗费数个甚至十几个小时，它们展示了时间的节奏、生命的出生和陨落，更是让观者从分秒的走动中，找到了活着的证据、看到了大自然的表情。
《海豚湾》在选题过程中很好的避免了两极分化，用主流的意识形态和生活状态去表达主题，同时又兼顾了其拍摄主体的个性以及个体所表达的丰富多彩。这部纪录片通过镜头中的客观影像，深刻的表达了创作者对大肆捕杀海豚中具有主题意义相关的渔民和捕杀事件等的价值判断，并依次实现与观众的心灵碰撞和情感交流，很好的避免了描绘现实的主观形式。
一、真实
这也是这部纪录片最震撼我的地方，首先是它对表现对象的非虚构性。纪录片的主角都是真实的客观存在，它以日本太地町当地的渔民肆意的捕杀海豚这一真实的事件和当时捕杀过程中真实的情景为表现对象，在此基础上加以选择和组接，来表达作者理查德·欧巴和导演路易·塞霍尤斯的思想。
整个纪录片的拍摄是在真实的环境和时间内，拍摄着真实的渔民和海豚，它有效地记录了客观自然的真实形象，在很大程度上消除了认为的主观色彩，并最大限度的满足了受众“了解真相”的求知心理。整部纪录片中的每一个凄美而惨烈的镜头都渗透着作者对保护海豚、关爱生命的深沉的呐喊，这种适度的情感渗透非但没有影响纪录片真实性的表达，反而的渲染、强化、延伸、凸显客观的记录主体，有利于主题的表达和升华，提升了纪录片存在的价值。
