Harbin is famous around the world for its incredible ice and snow sculptures and festivals during the super cold winters. I'm going to tell you all about the awesome winter fun we have here! When the freezing temperatures arrive each year, Harbin turns into a magical frozen playground. The city is transformed with gigantic ice sculptures, shimmering ice lanterns, and dazzling colorful lights everywhere you look. It's like stepping into a real-life fairy tale kingdom of ice and snow! The biggest and most famous event is the Harbin International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival. It's been happening every winter since 1963 when it started out small with just a few ice lantern exhibits. But now it has grown into the largest ice and snow festival in the entire world! Thousands of incredibly talented ice sculptors come from all over to carveenormous frozen artworks using huge blocks of crystal-clear ice taken from the frozen Songhua River. The festival takes place in a massive park with different themed areas full of the most mind-blowing ice sculpturesyou've ever seen. One area might have intricate ice carvings of famous buildings and landmarks from around the globe. Another zone might be filled with sculptures of animals, people, or scenes from legends and folklore. The sculptors use tools like irons, chisels, and chain saws to carve out every little detail in the gleaming ice. The results are breathtakingly beautiful and incredibly impressive! My favorite part is always the swimming area where you can watch brave people actually swim in the icy river water with just their swimsuits on! The water is so freezing that it feels like a million tiny knives stabbing your skin. But some daredevils still love doing it just for fun and to show off. I've tried plunging into the icy waters before too, but I only lasted about 5 seconds before scrambling out shivering like a wet chihuahua! It's an extreme sport only for the craziest and toughest swimmers.Another epic highlight is the enormous snow sculptures found in a different zone. These colossal snow artworks tower over everyone, with some reaching over 100 feet (30 meters)high! Teams of sculptors spend weeks molding and shaping hundreds of tons of compacted snow into humongous snow versions of temples, pagodas, mythical creatures, and more. I've climbed up inside the belly of a massive hollowed-out snow Buddha sculpture before - it's like exploring a snowy cave! After dark is when the festival looks the most magical. Hundreds of thousands of colorful LED lights illuminate all the sculptures, making them seem to glow from within. Everything sparkles and glistens like diamonds under the night sky. The main iconic structure is always the colossal Ice and Snow World that gets built from millions of ice bricks. Walking through this icy frozen citadel of ice towers, castles, igloos, and lanterns is a true winter wonderland experience. But Harbin isn't just about the festival - the entire city gets into the spirit of ice and snow all winter long! The local parks have awesome snow playgrounds with giant snow slides, snow mazes, and snow sculptures. You can go tubing, sledding, or riding little ski-bicycles down the slopes. Along the rivers and canals, you can go ice skating or watch brave people doing stunts and fancy figure skating moves. Many people also love going on winter camping or ice fishing trips out on the frozen rivers and lakes around Harbin. You can set up tents and a campfire on the thick ice, drill holes to fish through, play ice hockey or ice soccer, and watch the most beautiful pink and purple sunrises over the icy landscapes.Keeping active with winter sports is so much fun too! The most popular ones are skiing and snowboarding at the ski resorts around Harbin. I'm still a beginner, but I love zipping down the slopes and doing little jumps covered from head to toe in my bright puffy ski outfit. Even if you fall, you just land softly in the powder snow feeling like a big cozy snowball! Ice skating is great for teaching balance and control too. I can skate well enough now to do basic spins and little jumps, but I need a lot more practice before I'm as good as the amazing professional figure skaters. We also play traditional winter sports like ice hockey, curling, ski jumping, snowshoeing, and this hilarious game called ice bowling where you slide huge rubber balls across the ice and try to knock down pins! Sometimes schools will even organize fun winter Olympic competitions between classes where we all get to try different winter sports and games. My favorite is always the snowball fight competition - you get to pelt the other teams with as many snowballs as possible! The cold winters here can sometimes seem neverending, but we Harbiners don't let it get us down. We just find ways to embrace the ice and snow by getting outdoors, keeping active, and finding beauty in the magical frozen landscapes. From the dazzling lights and sculptures to the winter sports and festivals, Harbin is a wonderland of frosty fun! If you ever get a chance to visit during winter, you'll see why this place truly is the Ice City of the world. Thanks for reading, and let it snow!篇2The Awesome Frozen World of Harbin!Hi there! My name is Lily and I'm going to tell you all about the amazing city of Harbin in northeast China. It's a place that becomes a real-life frozen wonderland every winter. Get ready to learn about awesome ice sculptures, super cool winter sports, and tons of fun in the snow and ice!Let me start by telling you about the Harbin Ice and Snow Festival. It's one of the coolest (get it?) festivals in the whole world! Every year, when it gets really cold in Harbin, they build huge sculptures made entirely out of ice and snow. Can you imagine how amazing that is?The festival takes place in different parks around the city, but the biggest one is at Harbin Ice and Snow World. This place is like a magical frozen kingdom with life-size castles, towering skyscrapers, even an ice replica of the Great Buddha statue - all built with thick, crystal-clear ice! At night, the sculptures light up in a rainbow of colors, making everything sparkle like diamonds. But the sculptures are just the beginning. There are also incredible PlayZones with giant snow slides, labyrinths made of ice blocks, and loads of other snowy activities to enjoy. Last year, I went tubing down an 800-meter ice slide. It was simultaneously terrifying and thrilling! The festival also has an Ice Lantern Garden filled with lanterns in the shape of animals, flowers, famous people and more – all intricately carved out of ice blocks. Some master sculptors even create detailed miniature models of palaces and temples using just their tools and bare hands. It's mind-blowing!As if all that isn't cool enough (sorry, another ice pun!), there are daily performances like acrobatics on ice, dancers gliding around in beautiful costumes, and ice skating shows with professionals doing jumps and spins. My favorite part is when the fire dancers come out and things made of ice are set on fire –very carefully of course! It's an amazing combination of hot and cold. All this awesome frozen fun lasts from late December through February when temperatures can drop to -30°C. You have to dress in your biggest, puffiest snowsuit or you'll be a popsicle! Even with layers on, my toes still get numb after a while from walking on the thick ice floors. That's when it's time to go inside one of the heated halls for snacks and warm drinks. The hot chocolate is the perfect treat after an afternoon playing in the icy outdoors.Speaking of cold weather fun, Harbin is also known for its incredible winter sports. In the wintertime, places like Sun Island Park and Stalin Park turn into winter wonderlands for sports lovers.Ice skating is probably the most popular winter activity. There are huge skating rinks everywhere you look, from small neighbourhood parks to Harbin's international level skating venues. Some are even set up on frozen rivers! I thought I was pretty good on my skate blades until I saw the really talented skaters, gliding backwards and doing awesome jumps. There are even ice skating performances with skiing ballerinas dancing across the rinks on shovels. So cool!My personal favorite winter sport to watch in Harbin is ice hockey. The games are always so intense with players zooming around, slamming into the boards, and whacking that little puck across the rink at crazy speeds. When someone scores a goal, the whole crowd goes absolutely wild. I'm determined to learn how to play ice hockey myself one day so I can join in that high-speed, high-energy action!Other popular winter sports around here include curling (that game where you slide the stone across the ice toward the target), snow polo (like horse polo but on skis!), ice climbing up frozen waterfalls, dog sledding, snowmobiling, and of course skiing and snowboarding. The ski slopes around Harbin aren't quite as big as places farther north, but there are still lots of fun hills for beginners and powdery snow for more advanced skiers and boarders.I could go on and on about all the frosty festivities and icy entertainment in Harbin. This place truly comes alive in winter, celebrating and enjoying the frozen temperatures in the coolest ways possible (last pun, I promise!). If you ever get a chance to visit this snowy wonderland in northeast China, you have to take it. Just remember to pack about five million layers to keep warm, and get ready for the most epic winter adventures. I'll see you on the ice!篇3A Winter Wonderland: Harbin's Amazing Ice and SnowHi everyone! My name is Lily and I'm going to tell you all about the coolest city for winter fun - Harbin, China! Harbin is the capital of Heilongjiang Province way up in the northeast part of China. It gets super cold there in the winter, with temperatures often below freezing. But instead of hiding inside, the people of Harbin celebrate winter with the most amazing ice and snow festivals and activities!Every year from January to February, Harbin holds the huge Harbin International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival. Can you imagine building houses, castles, animals, and even whole cities out of ice?! The artists at the festival do exactly that using big blocks of crystal-clear ice taken from the frozen Songhua River. They sculpt and carve the ice into the most intricate and lifelike shapes you've ever seen. It's like walking into a frozen fairy tale land! The main site of the festival is the stunning Ice and Snow World. This is a whole theme park made entirely out of iceharvested from the river! There are enormous ice sculptures everywhere you look - giant ice slides to ride down, frozen castles and forts to explore, icy recreations of famous landmarks like the Colosseum or Egyptian pyramids, and dazzling ice lantern exhibits that light up at night in a rainbow of colors. It feels like you've traveled to a magical ice kingdom! One of my favorite parts is the Ice Lantern Garden filled with hundreds of elaborate ice lanterns in the shapes of animals, flowers, people and more. When they're lit up at night shining in blue, red, yellow and green lights, it looks like something straight out of a fairy tale. I love walking through the Garden, just surrounded by all the glowing, icy beauty.Other cool attractions at the festival include ice skating, sledding, ice swings and even ice mazes to find your way through! You can watch death-defying ice climbers scale towering walls of ice, or attend nightly dazzling fireworks and laser light shows over the icy landscapes. It's an unbelievable winter wonderland!Of course, once you've had your fill of icy fun, you can always warm up inside and enjoy Harbin's unique Russian culture and architecture left over from the time it was ruled by Russia in the early 1900s. The city center has beautiful onion-domedcathedrals, Russian bakeries selling fresh black bread, and cozy cafes to sip some warming Russian black tea or hot chocolate. While the Ice and Snow Festival is definitely the star attraction, Harbin loves celebrating winter in other ways too. In December, you can attend the Harbin Engelwood Snow Town Festival in nearby Heilongjiang province. This festival highlights how skilled the locals are at sculpting figurines, furniture and whole scenes out of tightly packed snow. Every year there's a different theme, like Snow Shanghai featuring miniature snow versions of famous Shanghai buildings and sites. Even the bathrooms are made of snow - how crazy is that?!And winter sports are huge in this snowy region too. You can go downhill skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling and dog sledding at nearby ski resorts with fresh powdery snow. Or stick to the city and go ice skating on one of the frozen rivers or play a game of ice hockey at the indoor or outdoor rinks. Those are some of my personal favorite winter sports! Whoever said you had to hibernate all winter clearly hasn't been to Harbin. In Harbin, winter isn't something to dread - it's a time to get outside and celebrate the beauty of ice and snow through art, festivals, and sports. I've never seen anything quite as magical as the ice sculptures and landscapes created here. Harbin is a truefrozen paradise for anyone who loves winter. It should definitely be on your list if you ever get a chance to visit! Just bundle up and get ready for icy thrills galore.篇4Snow, Ice, and Winter Fun in Harbin!Hi friends! My name is Xiaoming and I live in Harbin, which is in the northeast part of China. Harbin has really cold winters with lots and lots of snow and ice. But you know what? We don't mind the freezing temperatures at all! In fact, we love the winter and have so much fun playing in the snow and ice. Let me tell you all about the awesome winter activities and ice festivals we have in my city. The biggest and most famous event is the Harbin International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival. It's held every year from around Christmas until late February or early March. Can you imagine building huge sculptures out of ice and snow? That's what they do at this festival! There are hundreds of giant ice sculptures on display throughout the city, especially in a few big parks. The ice sculptures are like amazing frozen castles, pagodas, animals, and anything else you can dream up! The artists whocreate them use huge blocks of crystal clear ice harvested from the frozen Songhua River. They carve the ice into unbelievable shapes using tools like chisels and chainsaws. It's incredible to see!At night, the ice sculptures are colorfully illuminated with bright lights. Some even have moving parts or water flowing through them! My favorite is always the enormous snow sculpture area at Sun Island Park. It covers many acres and has intricate snow carvings of famous buildings from around the world like the Pyramids or the Taj Mahal. Just thinking about it makes me shiver with excitement! But the festival isn't just about looking at frozen art. There are also loads of fun winter activities to enjoy. You can go sledding down huge snow slides or race down the ice tracks in a little bobsled. Ice skating is super popular too on the many rinks around the parks. If you're feeling really adventurous, you can try ice rock climbing on the tall frozen waterfalls!Another awesome thing about Harbin's winters is the indoor ice buildings and amusement parks made entirely out of ice blocks. That's right - rooms, hallways, slides, and mazes built with frozen ice! You have to wear a thick jacket inside because thetemperature is below freezing to keep the ice from melting. It's like being inside a life-size ice castle!Aside from the big festivals, we love playing in the snow all winter long. Building snowmen, making snow angels, and having epic snowball fights are classic Harbin pastimes. Ice skating and ice hockey on frozen lakes and rivers is also really common. Many kids take lessons or play on school ice hockey teams. I'm on my school's team and we practice a few times a week! And then there's skiing and snowboarding, which are my absolute favorite winter sports! We have lots of great ski resorts outside the city with runs for every ability level. I started learning to ski when I was just 4 years old. Now at age 10 I can cruise down the black diamond slopes no problem. I'm working on mastering some tricks in the terrain parks too. Maybe I'll be good enough to compete someday! As you can probably tell, us Harbin kids are pros at dealing with the extreme cold and snowy conditions. We have to dress in lots of super warm layers like thermal underwear, heavy coats, snow pants, boots, gloves, and facemasks. And we always make sure to stay hydrated and go inside to warm up regularly. But the hassle of bundling up is totally worth it! The winter wonderland scene of fresh white snow covering everything is sobeautiful. The peaceful quiet when fat snowflakes are falling is one of my favorite things. I can't imagine living somewhere without a proper snowy winter. If you love ice, snow, winter sports, and outdoor frozen fun, then you simply have to visit Harbin! The city is truly a winter paradise with its stunning ice festivals and endless chilly activities. You'll have a blizzard of a good time - I guarantee it! What are you waiting for? Bundle up and come join us in the snowy capital of China. Just don't forget to pack your warmest parka!篇5The Magical World of Ice and Snow in HarbinHi there! Harbin is home to the incredible Ice and Snow World - thebiggest ice and snow festival in the whole world! Can you imagine building an entire city out of ice?! That's exactly what the talented artists here do every year. The Ice and Snow World has the most mind-blowing ice sculptures you've ever seen. Last year, they built a life-sized ice replica of the Forbidden City palace from Beijing. It had towers, walls, gates and everything - all carved out of crystal clear ice! There were also huge ice slides, mazes, castles and replicas of famous monuments from around the globe. At night, the ice sculptures light up in dazzling colors making everything look even more magical. I love going there with my friends to have snowball fights and go sledding down the icy slopes. We keep super warm by wrapping up in our biggest, fluffiest coats, hats, scarves and mittens. My little brother always tries to catch snowflakes on his tongue - so silly!Besides the Ice and Snow World, Harbin has tons of other fun winter activities to enjoy. Pretty much everyone here knows how to ice skate. The local rinks are always packed with people skating, playing hockey and doing cool spins and jumps. I'm still learning but I can glide around without falling over too much! There are also lots of ski resorts just outside of the city where you can go downhill skiing, snowboarding or snow tubing. Myfamily and I love speeding down the slopes then warming up with steaming hot chocolate afterwards. Sometimes we'll make an afternoon of it and build a snowman family in our yard. Last year, we made different goofy hats for each one out of colorful mittens and scarves. In the evenings, we bundle up to watch performers doing incredible acrobatics and dance shows on outdoor ice rinks and stages set up around the city parks and squares. The costumes and lights are just breathtaking against the snowy backdrop. My favorite act is the daring skaters who leap through rings of fire while doing flips and tricks! After the shows, we'll go warm up at one of Harbin's amazing indoor hot spring spas and waterparks. Can you imagine swimming in hot pools while it's freezing cold outside? We have huge waterparks here with tons of slides, splash areas, wave pools and even fake beach areas. My little brother and I have swimming races to see who can go down the biggest waterslides the fastest. No winter visit to Harbin would be complete without sampling all the yummy seasonal food we have here. Grandma makes the most delicious eight treasure rice pudding and sweet rice balls for the Winter Solstice festival. We also eat lots of hotpot with lamb, beef, veggies and fresh noodles to keep us fueled for outdoor fun.One of my absolute favorite winter treats is tang hulu - those yummy candied fruit skewers made of hawthorn berries coated in sticky sugar syrup. You can find street vendors all over selling them during the winter festivals. I'll never forget my first bite of a crispy, sugary tang hulu on a freezing cold night - it was like my mouth was instantly transported to a warm summer day!Well, that's a little peek into how we celebrate winter here in my hometown. Well, let me tell you about the most amazing place I visited during my winter break – the Harbin Ice and Snow World in China! It's a frozen dreamland that will blow your mind.Every year, when the freezing winter arrives in Harbin, a city in northeastern China, an army of skilled ice sculptors gets to work. Using just tools and tons of ice from the nearby Songhua River, they create an incredible icy world right before your eyes! It's like something out of a fairy tale.As soon as you step inside the Ice and Snow World, you're surrounded by the most breathtaking ice sculptures. Giant palaces, towering monuments, life-sized animals – everything is carved out of crystal-clear ice that sparkles like diamonds under the colorful lights. I felt like I had shrunk down and entered a magical frozen kingdom! One of the coolest things (pun intended!) was the massive ice slides. I grabbed an ice tube and whizzed down the steep slopes, giggling all the way. Some slides were so tall, they had turns and loops like a roller coaster! My heart was racing with excitement. After the rides, my cheeks were all rosy from the chilly air, but I was grinning from ear to ear. Then there were the incredible ice sculptures depicting scenes from around the world. I saw the Sphinx from Egypt, the Leaning Tower of Pisa from Italy, and even the Great Wall of China – all masterfully carved out of solid ice blocks. The detail was so intricate, it was hard to believe they were made of ice!My favorite area was the Underwater World, filled with ice sculptures of whales, sharks, coral reefs, and all sorts of ocean creatures. I felt like I had dived right into the deep blue sea without getting wet! The colorful lights made the icy animals seem almost alive. But the Ice and Snow World isn't just about looking – there's plenty of fun activities too. We went on a sledding hill and raced down the slopes at top speed. I tried my hand at ice skating, slipping and sliding across the frozen rink. And we even built our very own miniature ice castle using little ice blocks. By the time we were done, my fingers were frozen stiff, but I didn't care one bit!At night, the whole place transformed into a twinkling, glowing wonderland. Thousands of colored lights illuminated the icy structures, making them sparkle like jewels. We joined the crowds, sipping steaming hot chocolate to keep warm, as we strolled through the dazzling frozen displays. It felt like we were walking through a real-life winter fairy tale! The Harbin Ice and Snow World is only open for a few months each year before the spring thaw arrives. That's what makes it so special – it's a temporary, ever-changing frozen paradise that disappears as quickly as it arrives. I feel so lucky to have witnessed this extraordinary icy kingdom with my own eyes.If you ever get the chance to visit Harbin in winter, you have to go see the Ice and Snow World. I can't wait to go back again next year and see what frosty surprises await!篇3The Magical Winter Wonderland of HarbinHi there, friends! Have you ever heard of Harbin, a city in the northeastern part of China? Let me tell you all about one of the most amazing places I've ever been to – the Harbin Ice and Snow World!Every year, as the cold winter months roll in, the city of Harbin transforms into a breathtaking frozen wonderland. Imagine a world made entirely of ice and snow, with towering sculptures, colorful lights, and incredible designs that seem to come straight out of a fairy tale!My family and I had the chance to visit the Harbin Ice and Snow World last winter, and let me tell you, it was an experience like no other. As we approached the entrance, we were greeted by a massive, intricately carved ice archway that looked like it was straight out of a castle in a Disney movie. It was so tall and impressive that I felt like a tiny ant compared to its grandeur.Once we stepped inside, it was like entering a magical, frozen kingdom. Everywhere we looked, there were amazing ice sculptures and structures of all shapes and sizes. The artists who create these masterpieces are truly talented, sculpting the ice into everything from famous landmarks like the Great Wall of China to mythical creatures like dragons and unicorns. One of the highlights was the gigantic ice slides. Can you believe they actually build huge, winding slides entirely out of ice?I mustered up all my courage and climbed to the top, and then whoosh! I came sliding down at lightning speed, the cold air whipping past my face. It was an adrenaline rush like no other! But the fun didn't stop there. We also got to explore a massive ice maze, with towering walls of ice surrounding us on all sides. It was like being trapped in a frosty labyrinth, and we had to carefully navigate our way through, trying not to get lost. Of course, my little brother thought it would be hilarious to lead us down a few wrong turns, but that's all part of the adventure! As night fell, the Harbin Ice and Snow World took on a whole new enchanting appearance. Thousands of colorful lights illuminated the sculptures, making them glow and sparkle in the darkness. It was like stepping into a magical, frozen fairyland. Weeven got to witness a spectacular light show, with colorful beams dancing across the icy structures in sync with upbeat music. One of my favorite parts was the ice lantern exhibition. Skilled artists had carved intricate designs into countless ice lanterns, which were then lit from the inside, creating a warm, mesmerizing glow. It was like walking through a frozen forest filled with enchanting, glowing orbs. But the Harbin Ice and Snow World isn't just about looking at amazing ice sculptures – there are also plenty of fun activities to enjoy. We went ice skating on a massive outdoor rink, gliding gracefully (or not so gracefully, in my case) across the frozen surface. There were also areas for sledding, ice bowling, and even ice fishing! As if all that wasn't enough, the Harbin Ice and Snow World also had a ton of delicious food options. We savored piping hot cups of hot chocolate to warm us up from the inside, and indulged in tasty snacks like roasted chestnuts and sugar-coated frozen fruits on a stick.By the end of our visit, we were all thoroughly enchanted by the magic of the Harbin Ice and Snow World. It was like stepping into a real-life winter fairy tale, complete with icy castles, glittering lights, and endless excitement around every corner. If you ever get the chance to visit Harbin during the winter months, I highly recommend adding the Ice and Snow World to your itinerary. It's an experience you'll never forget – a true winter wonderland that will fill your heart with joy and amazement. Just remember to bundle up warm, because this frozen kingdom is sure to chill you to the bone (in the best way possible)!篇4An Icy Invitation to a Winter WonderlandHi there! My name is Lily and I'm 10 years old. I live in Harbin, which is a city in the northeast part of China. It gets really, really cold here in the winter, but that's okay because we have the coolest place ever - the Harbin Ice and Snow World! The Harbin Ice and Snow World is a huge park made entirely out of ice and snow. Can you imagine that? Gigantic ice sculptures, frozen slides, icy castles, and mazes made of nothing but frozen water! It's like something out of a fairy tale.Every year, the park has a different theme with new sculptures and buildings. This year, the theme is "Ice and Snow Kingdom." There are palaces, thrones, knights, dragons, and all kinds of royal icy scenes. It's so magical! The sculptures are mind-blowingly massive and detailed. The artists who make them must be ice geniuses or something. They can carve ice into the most intricate designs - flowers, animals, people, anything you can imagine! And they use colored lights at night to make the ice glow in brilliant shades. It's a kaleidoscope of frozen beauty. My favorite part is the slides. There are gentle kiddie slides and super steep, super fast ones that make your heart race. You grab an ice tube and woosh! Down you go! The wind rushes past your face and you shiver with a mix of cold and adrenaline. It's an icy thrill ride! There are also ice mazes to explore and frozen trampolines to bounce on. You can go ice skating on the frozen river or watch daredevils dive into a pool carved out of the ice. Brrr! Just thinking about that makes me shiver.Everything at the park is made new every year from blocks of crystal-clear ice and compacted snow. It's hard to believe that it all melts away each spring. Imagine how much work goes into building this icy wonderland from scratch annually! The workers must have magic icy powers. At night, the park is even more breathtaking. All the ice glows under hundreds of colorful lights. It looks like anenchanted glacial kingdom from the movie Frozen. I half expect Anna, Elsa, Olaf and Kristoff to come skating around the corner! While you're wandering around in your poofy snowsuit and mittens, you can get hot snacks and drinks to keep you toasty - things like barbecue meats on a stick, candied fruits, and warm sweetened vinegar drinks. Yum!I always feel like a little kid filled with wonderment at the Harbin Ice and Snow World. It's chilly magic that you have to experience to believe. Ice and snow can be so much more than just frozen water when you use your imagination! That's why I really, really want you to come visit the park this winter. It's only open from January to late February though, so you have to come soon before it all melts away. Just imagine all the selfies and videos you could take amidst the icy paradise! Your friends would be so jealous. To get here, you'll need to bundle up in your warmest clothes, jackets, hats and mittens. Harbin is pretty far north, so it's freezing outside. But it's worth defying the biting cold to see this frosty fantasyland. The park is easy to get to once you arrive in Harbin. It's right in the city center, next to the river. You really can't miss it! Ifyou're coming from far away, my parents recommend taking a train to Harbin. The high-speed rail can get you here quickly from other parts of China. Just be sure to book your tickets way in advance because it's a popular destination.Once you arrive, my family always stays at one of the hotels right next to the park entrance so we can go back and forth easily and avoid the cold too much. Some hotels even have heated indoor connections to the park!I really hope you'll consider a winter trip to Harbin to experience the icy magic for yourself. The Harbin Ice and Snow World is unlike anything else. Where else can you slide down a 100-meter frozen ramp or get lost in a maze made of ice? It's a real-life Winter Wonderland!Hurry and make your plans soon because this frosty fantasyland won't be around for long. In a few weeks, it will melt away into spring as temperatures warm up. By summer, you'd never know this frozen kingdom ever existed! That's what makes it even more special.Just imagine how jealous your friends will be when you show them your pictures and videos of gargantuan ice castles, frozen slides, and colorful icy sculptures. You'll be the luckiest kid around to have witnessed this icy magic! What are you waitingfor? Start packing your snowsuit and thermals because a frostbite-free arctic adventure awaits in the one and only Harbin Ice and Snow World!篇5An Icy Invitation to Harbin's Frozen WonderlandHi friends! My name is Lily and I'm 10 years old. I recently went on the most amazing trip to Harbin, a city in Northeast China. You might not have heard of Harbin before, but trust me, it's seriously cool...actually, freezing cold! That's because every winter, Harbin transforms into the incredible Ice and Snow World. The Ice and Snow World is a massive park filled with the most jaw-dropping ice sculptures you've ever seen. Imagine a frozen playground of castles, monuments, statues and more, all meticulously carved out of crystal clear ice from the Songhua River. It's like something straight out of a fairy tale! When my parents first told me we were going to Harbin, I wasn't sure what to expect. Ice sculptures didn't sound that exciting to me at first. Boy, was I wrong! As soon as we arrived at the park's entrance, my mouth dropped open in amazement. Rising before me were towering ice edifices glistening under thecolorful lightshow. I felt like I had shrunk down to the size of a mouse in a sparkling ice kingdom! The sculptures were so incredibly detailed and ornate. There were delicate ice carvings of pagodas, Chinese dragons, famous landmarks like the Forbidden City and Terracotta Warriors, and even animated characters from movies and TV shows. My favorite was probably the life-sized recreation of Snoopy's doghouse! The ice artists who create these masterpieces are just wizards with their tools. As we wandered through the illuminated frozen wonderland, I was stunned by the sheer scale and artistry of every sculpture. Some were the size of full buildings, with arching ice windows, doors and balconies that you could actually walk through. It was mind-blowing that every inch was meticulously carved from ice. And the glowing rainbow lights made everything seem even more magical, like a real-life Frozen fairy tale come to life.In addition to the sculptures, there were also loads of other frosty activities to enjoy. We went sledding down huge icy slopes, glided across an ice skating trail that wove through the park, and I even got to try riding one of those cute little ice cycles. Everything was made of thick, solid ice that never melted, evenwhen I accidentally took a tumble (sorry, Mom!). The snowy air felt crisp and refreshing in my lungs. At one point, we stopped to warm up with some delicious hot chocolate and fried dough sticks from one of the outdoor food vendors. The tasty smells and sizzling sounds reminded me that even though this place looked like a frozen fairy tale, there was a lively energy pulsing through the park from all the happy visitors. As the sun set, the Ice and Snow World looked even more breathtaking. All the illuminated sculptures cast a colorful icy glow across the park, almost like the Northern Lights were dancing above our heads. The sculptures in the center square put on a special lights and music show that was dazzling. We settled into the snow to watch as the majestic ice edifices flashed and glittered in sync to classical music. I've never seen anything so beautiful! After the show, we took a horse-drawn carriage ride through the frosty landscape. Snuggled under warm blankets, weclip-clopped past ethereal ice formations that seemed to shimmer and shift shape in the moonlight. I felt like a princess in a real ice palace under the starry night sky. It was such a dreamy, unforgettable experience. On our final day, we got to explore the huuuuuge indoor ice sculpture gallery, which stayed a frosty -13°C even in the summer! The carvings in here were even more intricate, with translucent ice chrysanthemums, swirling archways andfour-story high ice pagodas. The piece de resistance was an enormous dream-like ice palace that made me feel like I had shrunk down to the size of a mouse. I kept expecting the Ice Queen herself to appear! The Harbin Ice and Snow World was honestly the coolest (pun intended!) place I've ever been. I'm still in awe thinking about those dazzling, frozen architectural masterpieces crafted with such incredible talent and artistry. If you ever get the chance to visit, you absolutely have to go! Just make sure to bundle up realllly warm first. This icy kingdom is a real-life winter wonderland.篇6The Magical World of Ice and Snow in HarbinHey there, kids! 哈尔滨冰雪文化和冰雪活动英语作文

哈尔滨冰雪文化和冰雪活动英语作文全文共5篇示例,供读者参考篇1Ice and Snow Fun in Harbin!Hi friends! My name is Xiaoming and I live in the amazing city of Harbin in northeast China. Harbin is known as the "Ice City" because we have such long, freezing cold winters. But you know what? That's what makes my hometown so special and fun!Every year, when the temperature drops way below freezing, Harbin turns into a real-life winter wonderland. The city is famous for its incredible ice and snow sculptures. Can you imagine building things out of ice that are taller than buildings? The artists in Harbin can do that! The most famous icy attraction is the Harbin International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival. Wow, it's hard to describe how amazing and magical it is! Huge, elaborate ice sculptures in the shapes of castles, animals, cartoons, famous buildings and more are created by very talented artists. At night, the ice sculptures are all lit up in colorful lights which makes them look even cooler. My favorite part of the festival is the enormous snow sculptures. One year, there was a giant snow Buddha that must have been 50 feet tall! The snow sculptures are so detailed and realistic. I don't know how the sculptors can carve the snow that perfectly. Maybe it's magic? In addition to the amazing ice and snow sculptures, there are lots of fun winter activities at the festival too. You can go sledding down huge snow slides, ice skating on frozen rivers, snow tubing, and playing in massive snow playgrounds. Last year, I went dog sledding which was a total blast! I also tried ice bicycling and swimming in a pool carved out of the icy river. Brrr, that was freezing but really fun!The best part is that the festival lasts for over two months, from around mid-December until late February. That gives my family and me plenty of time to go enjoy the sights and activities again and again. We always take our out-of-town relatives to the festival when they visit too. Who wouldn't want to experience this winter wonderland? But the snow fun in Harbin isn't just limited to the big festival. All around the city during winter, you'll see elaborate ice lantern exhibits with colorfully lit frozen sculptures. My friends and I lovewalking along the icy pathways checking out the ice lanterns after school. Many city parks also have their own smaller ice and snow sculpture displays. I don't know how the workers manage to build new sculptures every year, but they are always different and creative. Doesn't it sound cool to hangout in a park filled with frosty art?In the winter, so many fun activities happen on the frozen Songhua River too. My absolute favorite is watching the impressive ice swimming competitions. Those swimmers must be crazy to dive into that icy cold water! But it's still neat to watch them race. I could never do that, no way!The river also turns into a huge outdoor ice playground once it freezes over. You can rent little ice cycles that let you glide across the frozen river or play a game of ice soccer on special rinks. Last winter, my class took a field trip to the river to try out these fun activities.Even just walking or sledding along the icy riverbanks is a blast. You feel so tiny next to the towering walls of thick ice. Sometimes, the river ice even freezes with cool patterns and textures that look like works of art. The ice can make funny crackling sounds when it shifts too!If you visit Harbin in the winter, be sure to try all of the delicious warm winter street foods like hot candied haw berries, steaming sweet potato skewers, and lamb kebabs. Nothing tastes better when your tummy is nice and toasty! And since Harbin gets so cold, restaurants serve extra heartystick-to-your-ribs dishes like lamb stew, dumplings, and peppery beef noodles to warm you up.My hometown truly comes alive in the wintertime. I feel so lucky that I get to grow up experiencing all of the amazing ice and snow activities that Harbin offers. Our city is rightfully famous around the world for its incredible frozen attractions. If you haven't visited Harbin in the winter yet, you are really missing out!So what are you waiting for? Bundle up, wear lots of warm layers, and come join me in my frosty ice city. I'll show you all of the coolest (get it?) frozen sights and activities. You'll never want to leave this winter wonderland! Hope to see you skating on the river or exploring the sculpture festival soon. Let's go have some icy cold fun!篇2Harbin – The Frosty Wonderland!Hi everyone! My name is Amy and I'm from Harbin, a super cool city in the northeast of China. Let me tell you all about the amazing ice and snow we get to enjoy here every winter! When the cold winds start blowing in December, Harbin transforms into a frosty wonderland. Icicles hang from rooftops, and the streets are blanketed in snow that crunches underneath your boots. The best part is that the snow sticks around for months!Ice and Snow WorldThe biggest winter attraction in Harbin is the incredible Ice and Snow World. It's a frozen fantasy land built from hundreds of thousands of ice blocks taken from the Songhua River. Massive sculptures carved from crystal-clear ice towers over you - palaces, animals, famous buildings from around the world. It's like walking into a real-life fairy tale! The Ice and Snow World is so huge that you can easily spend an entire day wandering around. There are loads of fun activities too. You can go sledding down icy slopes, have a snowball fight in the battle zone, or try your hand at ice sculptures. At night, the whole area glows under colorful lights that make everything sparkle like magic.Zhaolin ParkAnother frosty paradise is Zhaolin Park. In winter, the park's streams and waterfalls freeze over into sheets of gleaming ice. The trees are draped in fluffy snow, creating a winter wonderland. My favorite activity here is ice skating on the frozen river that winds through the park. Nothing beats gliding over the smooth ice with snow falling gently around you. So peaceful! You can also go snow tubing, where you whizz down slopes on rubber rings. For the daring, there's even an ice slide where you can soar down a huge ramp! At night, the park hosts incredible ice lantern exhibitions with lanterns in the shape of animals, flowers, and more.Yabuli Ski ResortIf you love winter sports, Yabuli is the place for you. It's one of China's top ski resorts with pristine powdery slopes for skiing and snowboarding adventures. Even beginners can learn from the professional instructors and kid-friendly trails. More advanced skiers and snowboarders can race down challenging slopes surrounded by beautiful snowy mountains.Après-ski, you can warm up in cozy mountain lodges sipping hot cocoa by the fireplace. Build a snowman, make snow angels,or have an epic snowball war! Yabuli truly has everything for the ultimate winter experience.Winter FunOf course, Harbin overflows with more incredible winter activities beyond these big attractions. On icy days, we go ice fishing on frozen rivers, catching fish after fish through holes in the thick ice. Watching an ice swimming competition, where brave swimmers dive into freezing waters cutting through the solid ice, is always thrilling. The famous ice lantern art is everywhere, from neighborhood streets to shop windows. I especially love the ice lantern exhibitions at the Harbin Gorge, where thousands of intricately carved lanterns light up the canyon in dazzling colors.Every January, Harbin also hosts the prestigious Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival, attracting master sculptors from across the globe. Watching them carefully chip away at towering blocks of ice until lifelike masterpieces emerge is simply mesmerizing.Winter DelicaciesAll these chilly outdoor adventures help us work up a huge appetite for Harbin's delicious winter treats! My mouth waters just thinking about hot sugary donuts sizzling in oil, or bakedsweet potatoes stuffed with gooey toffee. On frosty evenings, we gather around street stalls slurping down heartwarming lamb soup and ginger milk tea.I can never get enough of jib-bing, a local snack made from hollowed bread bowls filled with savory gravy and crispy fried dough. Tanghulu, skewers of candied fruit and nuts enrobed in a crackling sugar coating, is another favorite sweet snack to snack on while roaming the snowy streets.Well, that's a glimpse into Harbin's amazing winter wonderland! If you love ice, snow, and nonstop frosty fun, this is definitely the place to be. Who's ready to bundle up and join me on a winter adventure? Let's go!篇3The Amazing Ice and Snow World of Harbin!Hi friends! My name is Lily and I'm going to tell you all about the super cool city of Harbin in northeast China. Harbin is famous for its incredible ice and snow sculptures and fun winter activities. It's like a frozen wonderland!Every year, Harbin holds the Harbin International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival. It's the biggest ice and snow festival in the world! Hundreds of talented artists come from all over tosculpt the most amazing frozen artworks you've ever seen. Using just ice and snow, they create giant castles, animals, famous buildings and so much more. It's seriously mind-blowing how detailed and beautiful they are.Last winter, my family and I went to the festival and I felt like I had stepped into a magical fairy tale kingdom. There were glittering ice palaces taller than houses with colored lights shining through the translucent walls. Frozen dragons and phoenixes looked so lifelike I thought they might breathe fire! Even famous landmarks like the Forbidden City and the Great Wall of China were recreated entirely out of ice bricks. I couldn't believe humans could build such incredible things out of just frozen water. It was the coolest thing I'd ever seen, literally! My favorite part was the enormous ice slides. Some were straight, some had twists and turns, and some even had tunnels you slid through! I went zooming down over and over again until my cheeks were all rosy from the cold. At night, the slides were illuminated in dazzling colors that changed as you slid down. So much fun! There was also an awesome ice rink where we went ice skating. It was outdoors but they had these tall ice walls all around embedded with colorful lights that made me feel like Iwas skating in a frozen rainbow cave. Some parts of the rink had archways you could glide under and little bridges to skate across. My little brother who was just learning kept clinging to the walls but I was shredding that ice like a pro! After wearing ourselves out skating and sliding, we went to drink hot mulled wine and munch on delicious snacks like candied fruit on a stick and roasted sweet potatoes. Yum! All the food stalls looked like little log cabins so it was like wandering through a whole winter village. I got to try so many yummy northern Chinese treats I'd never had before. One night, we took a sleigh ride pulled by real horses with jingley bells on their harnesses. Our driver sang Christmas carols and told us stories about Harbin's history as we cuddled under warm blankets enjoying the sparkling lights and sculptures gliding past. I felt just like the kid in the book The Polar Express! On our last day in Harbin, we visited the Siberian Tiger Park where we got to see the biggest tigers in the world up close! They had these special enclosed areas where the tigers could roam around and you could view them through big windows and tunnels. At feeding time, the tiger keepers brought out these huge hunks of meat and tossed them right in front of us as the tigers jumped and pounced. It was both scary and amazing tosee those powerful predators so close. The enclosures even had frozen ponds that the tigers could walk across which was really neat.Harbin is truly a winter paradise with its beautiful ice sculptures, fun activities, tasty food, and even tigers! If you ever get the chance to visit during their incredible ice festival, you have to go. I promise you'll never see anything like it anywhere else. Just be sure to bundle up because it gets wicked cold there! Those giant ice castles are definitely worth braving the freezing temps for though. I can't wait to go back again next year!篇4Ice and Snow Wonderland in Harbin!Hi everyone! My name is Xiaoming and I'm in 5th grade. I live in Harbin, the ice city in northeast China. Harbin is so cool (pun intended!) because we get lots of snow and freezing temperatures every winter. This allows us to have amazing ice and snow sculptures, festivals, and activities that you can't find many other places! The most famous thing in Harbin is the Harbin International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival. It started in 1963 and now happens every year from January to February. Thousands ofsuper talented artists come from all over the world to carve the most incredible ice and snow sculptures. They use tools like chisels, saws, and even computerized machines to shape the ice and snow into unbelievable statues and buildings. There are sculptures of animals, people, buildings, and anything you can imagine! Last year, my favorite was a gigantic ice replica of the Colosseum in Rome. It looked so real and detailed, with arches, pillars, and even little figurines carved into it. Another incredible one was a life-size snow Buddhist temple, with tiny carvings all over of dragons, lotus flowers, and Buddha statues. It looked magical, especially when illuminated by colorful lights at night. The ice sculptures are made from thick, crystal-clear ice blocks from the frozen Songhua River. The sculptors have to work really quickly before the ice melts under the hot lights and tools. After a few weeks, the sculptures start melting and dripping, so you have to see them early in the festival when they're still perfect.Snow sculptures are different because the snow can be shaped and molded more easily than ice. The sculptors use special tools and snow hardeners to craft incredible snow statues that are sometimes as tall as buildings! This year, there was anepic 35-meter tall snow replica of the Forbidden City palace in Beijing. It had all the details like pavilions, pagodas, and imperial gardens. My favorite part of the Ice and Snow Festival is getting to walk through the incredible snow and ice buildings and playgrounds they construct. It feels like being transported to a frozen fantasy world of glittering palaces, castles, igloos, and mazes all made of ice! They have huge snow slides that you can sledge down, as well as ice merry-go-rounds, swings, see-saws and even an ice bowling alley. At night, the festival is especially breathtaking. All the ice sculptures are brightly illuminated with colorful lights that make them glow and sparkle like gems. There are also fireworks, outdoor ice rinks for skating, and snow playgrounds for activities like tubing, snowboarding and building snowmen. It's pretty much the coolest (another pun!) winter wonderland ever. When the festival is over at the end of February, some of the hugest snow sculptures are moved to different parks around Harbin so we can still enjoy them for a while before Spring arrives. Sometimes they even have contests to see who can guess which sculpture will be the last to melt! But the ice fun isn't just restricted to the Ice and Snow Festival. All around Harbin in winter, you'll see frozen rivers, lakes and fountains that become makeshift skating rinks and outdoor recreation areas. Our local parks have life-sized snow labyrinths, snow sculpture gardens, and snow playhouses for kids. We make snow angels, have epic snowball fights, and go tubing down the park hills. The winter fun culminates every year with the Harbin Ice Lantern Art Fair in January. This is another festival where artists from China and abroad create incredible masterpieces and lightscapes solely out of thick ice slices and LED lights! They carve the ice into different shapes and frost colours, then install colorful lights inside to illuminate their designs. Some highlights from the lantern festival this year included a dazzling 40-meter long ice lantern dragon, an entire miniature ice city with lights inside the tiny houses and streetlamps, and beautifully intricate ice lantern gazebos, each one uniquely carved with designs inspired by ice crystals, snowflakes, and Chinese arts and symbols. My favourite was the ice palace made of thousands of icy shards that glowed from within like a crystal wonderland! At the Ice Lantern Art Fair, you can watch the lantern artists at work through a window as they carefully carve and construct their masterpieces using special ice tweezers and tools. It's like an ice sculpture museum that you can walk through and immerse yourself in the icy illuminations.I feel so lucky to live in Harbin where we get to experience this incredible ice and snow culture every winter. From ice festivals to frozen lakes to lantern shows, there's always something cool (last pun, I promise!) going on in my hometown.I can't wait for winter to come again so I can ice skate to school, build snow forts, and visit the next round of unbelievable ice and snow sculptures. Winter in Harbin is just the best!篇5Snow and Ice Fun in Harbin!Hi everyone! My name is Xiao Ming and I'm from Harbin, which is a really cool city in the northeast part of China. It's famous for getting super cold winters with tons of snow and ice. Some people might not like that, but I love it because it means we get to do all sorts of awesome snow and ice activities! The biggest event we have every year is the Harbin International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival. It's held fromaround Christmas until late February or early March. Huge ice sculptures get built in different parks around the city using ice blocks taken from the frozen Songhua River. The sculptures can be taller than a house! There are different zones with different themes each year. My favorites are always the ones with fun slides and mazes made completely out of ice that you can actually walk through. One of the most famous spots is the Ice and Snow World, which has enormous ice buildings and structures lit up with colorful lights at night. It looks like a fairy tale kingdom made of ice! You can slide down giant ice slides and explore ice castles and palaces. Just make sure to bundle up because it's freezing inside! Last year, they even had a huge ice replica of the Great Wall of China that you could walk along. My friends and I spend hours sledding at the different parks during the festival too. The great thing about Harbin is there are tons of big hills covered in fresh powder all winter for awesome sledding. We have super fast plastic sleds but sometimes just use flattened cardboard boxes which works too! You just have to avoid the trees at the bottom. I fell into one last year and ended up looking like a snowman!Ice skating is another must-do winter activity here. Not only do we have indoor rinks, but there are outdoor skating trails on frozen rivers that go on for miles! You can rent skates and glide along while looking at the cool ice sculptures on the riverbanks. Just be careful of bumpy parts and cracks in the ice. One time my friend's skate went through a thin spot and he ended up with a soaked shoe!Speaking of the rivers, that's also where they construct the yearly Ice and Snow Swimming event. Can you imagine swimming in freezing cold river water when the air temperature is below zero? Just thinking about it makes me shiver! But some brave people actually train all year to compete in different swimming races and events with the ice and snow as the backdrop. I tried ice swimming once and only lasted about 10 seconds before scrambling out. No thanks, I'll stick to sledding!Even just walking around Harbin in winter is an adventure with all the crazy frozen sculptures and buildings made of compacted snow and ice. Some look like frozen bubbles while others are intricate castles or famous landmarks recreated in ice. The sculptors are so talented in carving them out of single blocks of ice. My dad says I should study hard so I can design ice sculptures when I grow up too!You know what else is awesome about Harbin winters? The food! Vendors sell all kinds of piping hot snacks and drinks to keep you toasty while playing outside. My absolute favorite is candied fruit on a stick, coated in a crispy sugary glaze. There are also doughnut balls, grilled meat kebabs, hot chocolate, and this awesome cheese that gets melted onto a little griddle until it's all gooey and stretchy. Just don't drop it on your coat!I could keep going on and on about all the cool winter stuff we have here, but I better wrap it up. If you ever get a chance to visit Harbin in the winter, you absolutely have to come check out the ice festival and all the other snowy fun! Make sure to pack reallllly warm clothes though. You'll need them to stay toasty while joining in on all the frozen festivities. Thanks for reading, and I'll see you on the sledding hills!。

介绍哈尔滨的冰雪文化的英语作文

介绍哈尔滨的冰雪文化的英语作文The Sparkly, Icy Wonderland of HarbinHi there! My name is Lily and I'm a 4th grader from Harbin, China. Harbin is the capital city of Heilongjiang Province, which is way up in the northeastern part of the country. It gets sooooo cold here in the winter, with temperatures dropping below freezing for months at a time. But you know what? The freezing cold means we get to experience the most magical, glittering, icy wonderland! Harbin is famous around the world for its incredible ice and snow festivals and sculptures. Let me tell you all about the amazing ice exhibitions and frosty fun activities that make my hometown the "Ice City"!Every year from late December to late February, Harbin hosts the enormous Harbin International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival. It's been going on for over 35 years and it draws millions of visitors from all over the globe! The festival takes place in a few different parks spread out across the city, but the star of the show is the dazzling Ice and Snow World located in Stalin Park. This is where you'll find the most breathtaking, larger-than-life ice sculptures carefully carved by incredibly talented artists. To create the icy masterpieces, workers use machinery to carefully harvest thousands of thick ice blocks from the frozen Songhua River that runs through Harbin. The river freezes solid during winter, with the ice becoming over 3 feet thick in some parts! Pretty cool, right? The huge ice blocks are then transported and assembled together using a special ice-lattic technique to build the enormous snow sculptures.Once the basic structures are in place, teams of master sculptors from Harbin and around the world get to work carving out their icy artworks using chisels, saws, and other tools. It takes weeks of hard work in the bitter cold to turn those plain ice blocks into the sprawling winter wonderland called Ice and Snow World! The sculptures range from famous buildings and landscapes replicated in frozen form to mythological characters and abstract designs that seem to defy gravity. With colorful lights illuminating the ice at night, it's like stepping into a glowing fairy tale kingdom! My favorite part of Ice and Snow World is definitely the Ice Castles. That's where you'll find the most ornate, castle-like ice structures soaring several stories high, often inspired by things like Buddhist temples or European palaces. It's fun to wander through the maze-like castles, sliding down the icy slides andstairs and peeking into the elaborately carved rooms. Just don't lick the walls or you might get stuck! The frosty cathedrals and towers are always decorated with thousands of lightbulbs which make them shimmer in shades of blue, purple, red and more under the night sky. It looks like something straight out of the movie Frozen! But Ice and Snow World has a lot more than just ice sculptures. There are also enormous snow slides that seem to stretch on forever. You can grab an inner tube and launch yourself down the steep, winding hills, screaming in delight all the way! Snow plazas offer snow playgrounds where you can build snowmen, throw snowballs, or go sledding. And on the frozen lakes and rivers, you'll find people bundled up to go ice skating, playing ice hockey, and even riding bikes outfitted with special skate-like blades instead of wheels. If you get chilly from all that outdoor fun, there are also tons of indoor attractions at Ice and Snow World. Some of the most impressive ones are the massive indoor ice halls, where the temperature is kept at a frigid -13°F (-25°C)! That's perfect conditions for housing sprawling ice mazes, ice slides, ice sculptures, and even full-sized buildings, churches, and famous landmarks meticulously carved out of solid ice. Talk about awinter chill! It's wild to explore inside icy recreations of places like Moscow's Red Square or the Colosseum in Rome.Ice and Snow World is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Harbin's frosty attractions. Another hugely popular spot is Sun Island, a scenic riverside park and beach that hosts the Harbin Sun Island International Snow Sculpture Art Exposition each year. Sculptors from around the globe flock to Sun Island to carve larger-than-life snow sculptures out of compacted snow. From fun cartoon characters to realistic depictions of animals, landmarks and people, the snow sculptures showcase incredible artistry and imagination. My personal favorite is the yearly snow Buddhist goddess sculpture, which can reach heights over 50 feet tall! When you're not admiring the icy wonders on display, Harbin has tons of opportunities to play in the snow yourself. You can find ski resorts scattered around the city, go tubing down steep hills, have snowball fights in the parks, or go snowmobiling across the frozen rivers. And don't worry about being cold – we have lots of delicious hot foods and drinks to keep you toasty! Trying to use your chopsticks with mittens on to slurp up a piping hot bowl of Harbin's famous savory stuffed buns or stew is always a hilarious struggle. And I can't getenough of the sugar candies and caramel apples that get frozen into a sweet icy treat! My friends and I love to bundle up in our puffiest snowsuits until we look like little Michelin Man children, then go sledding, tubing and rolling around in the fluffy white snow until our parents make us come inside because our toes are frostbitten. Playing in that fresh powder never gets old! And at night, we love catching the ice sculpture light shows, where the sculptures are illuminated with choreographed light displays that twinkle to music. Talk about icy entertainment! All this snowy fun draws visitors from across China and around the world, making winter kind of like Harbin's biggest holiday season. The sounds of different languages fill the air as tourists snap photos in front of the shimmering ice palaces. Vendors sell all kinds of knickknacks like fur hats, gigantic mittens, and miniature snow globes filled with carved ice sculptures inside. And the air is filled with the scents of hot meat pies, candied hawthorns, and other tasty street foods that are oh-so-necessary for keeping warm out there in the frosty chill of Harbin! As you can probably tell, I absolutely love everything about the ice and snow season here. Living in the "Ice City" is like beingin a real-life fairy tale during the winter months! Sure, the cold temperatures can be kind of brutal (Mom has to bundle me up like a puffer ball to play outside!). But all the icy magic and sparkling sculptures make it more than worth braving the chill. Where else can you spend months frolicking amongst soaring crystal castles, gigantic snow animals, and entire cities made entirely out of frozen water? So if you find yourself in Harbin next winter, bundle up and get ready for a frozen wonderland experience like no other. And if you see a little snow kid rolling around and making snow angels, that might just be me! Thanks for reading, and stay frosty out there!。

Ice Quake!

Over a hundred quakes have happened in the last decade. But they didn't occur near fault lines(断层线). What were they near? Find out on this Moment of Science.
We’re used to thinking of earthquakes as (1)tremors(震动,颤抖)that happen along fault lines when tectonic plates((地球表面的)构造板块)shift. They’re dramatic(吸引人注目的)events: a good-sized(相当大的,大型的)earthquake can bring buildings and bridges (2)toppling down(推翻;倒塌).
Those destructive energy bursts are high frequency(高频)ground vibrations(震动), and that’s the range of vibrations seismologists(地震学家)most actively study. Just recently, though, a geophysicist(地球物理学者)at Harvard University named Göran Ekström studied low-frequency(低频的)vibrations instead, and discovered something interesting.
He found over a hundred quakes have happened in the last decade that aren’t along any fault line. What are they near instead? Ice.
A glacier(冰川)can be thought of as a very (3)slow-moving (动作缓慢的)stream. It’s made of solid ice, but over long periods of time it can flow gradually over the land, sometimes carving deep (4)trenches(沟,沟渠)and (5)bulldozing(推土)up rock and soil. Just because it takes centuries to rearrange(重新排列) things, though, doesn’t mean a glacier isn’t enormously powerful at any given moment.
By carefully measuring seismic(地震的) signals, Ekström was able to spot numerous low-frequency quakes in Greenland that hadn’t been identified. He also found that they mostly occurred during July, August, and September. Those warmer months melt lots of glacial ice.
Ekström suspects that liquid water is (6)pooling(淤积)underneath the glacial ice to the point where the thin (7)veneer (外表)of water at the base of the glacier allows the whole mass to
slip(滑动)a little, the way your foot can skid(打滑)on a slick (光滑的)road.
The quakes he recorded, he believes, are the vibrations set up by all that ice–in one case, six cubic(立方的)miles of it–skidding as much as forty-two feet in under a minute. When that much ice scrapes(刮掉,擦掉), the earth itself shakes.
