These laptops connect people to their workplace. In the United States today, laptops also connect students to their classrooms.Westlake College in Virginia will start a laptop computer program that allows students to do schoolwork anywhere they want. Within five years, each of the 1500 students at the college will receive a laptop. The laptops are part of a $10 million computer program at Westlake, a 110-year-old college. The students with laptops will also have access to the Internet. In addition, they will be able to use e-mail to “speak” with their teachers, their classmates, and their families. However, the most important part of the laptop program is that students will be able to use computers without going to computer labs. They can work with it at home, in afast-food restaurant or under the trees-anywhere at all!Because of the many changes in computer technology, laptop use in higher education, such as colleges and universities, is workable. As laptops become more powerful, they become more similar to desktop computers. In addition, the portable computers can connect students to not only the Internet, but also libraries and other resources. State higher-education officials are studying how laptops can help students. State officials are also testing laptop programs at other universities, too.At Westlake College, more than 60 percent of the staff use computers. The laptops will allow all teachers to use computers in their lessons. As one Westlake teacher said, “ Here we are in the middle of Virginia and we’re giving students a window on the world. The children were surveyed between 2003 and 2007.Children who spent three or more hours a day watching TV, playing computer games, or chatting with friends—aside from time in school or time spent doing homework—were classified as sedentary (惯于久做的人).The researchers found only one quarter of the boys and 15% of the girls were getting enough exercise by these definitions.Uruguay had the highest percentage of active boys, at 42%, while Zambia had the lowest, at 8%.Girls from India were the most active, with 37% meeting exercise recommendations, while girls from Egypt were the least active, with 4%.Children in Myanmar were the least sedentary, with 13% of boys and 8% of girls classified as sedentary. The most sedentary nations were St. Lucia and the Cayman Islands, with 58% of boys and 64% of girls spending at least three hours a day in sedentary activities. While the study didn’t look at the reasons behind the lack of physical activity in various nations, Guthold said urbanization (城市化) could be a factor as well as access to cars and TVs.66. Really knowing what causes acne is the first step in stopping it.Stress is really something that will help bring on acne. The more stress you experience, the more chances of acne you’ll notice. This is a result of the chemicals in your body beginning to change when you are under stress. But one of the most common reasons for acne these days may be a skin condition.A very common reason for acne is poor hygiene. This suggests that if you don’t properly clean your body by showering, you’ll really see an increase in acne activity on your skin. If you do not get rid of the dead skin from your body, you may see a rise in skin problems as well. So clean your skin at least once a day.Oil in your pores(毛孔) is another common reason for acne, and if you do not keep your pores free from oil, you’ll get acne. There are many goods on the market to help clean your skin and avoid these unsightly problems. You’ll be ready to find out most of those moderately priced goods in the stores. If these products aren’t working well, you may find that it might be best to talk with your doctor. You should be aware when it’s time for you to ask for help. There are a number of people today that are trained to deal with acne. They can analyze your skin condition and offer an opinion on whether it is serious enough to ask a skin specialist for help.SECTION B (10)Directions: Read the following passage. Answer the questions according to the information given in the passage and required words limit.Greg Woodburn, a university student, spends a lot of time cleaning sports shoes. Some of them once belonged to him; some belonged to his friends. But soon the shoes will have new owners, poor children in the USA and 20 other countr ies, thanks to Greg’s Share Our Soles(鞋底) (S.O.S) charity.Greg was a high school running star in a small town in California. He had to stop running for months because his knee was injured. “I started thinking about all the things I got from running, the h ealth, the friendships and the confidence.” he says. And I realized there are children who don’t even have shoes.Greg collected his own sports shoes and then called his friends and the town. His aim was to have 100 pairs by Christmas 2006. When the number climbed to more than 500 pairs. Greg knew that he could collect sports shoes all year round. Now he has set up collection boxes in his town. So far, S.O.S has collected and donated more than 3,000 pairs of shoes.
