Sonnet is a very important form of English metrical poetry. It has 14 lines written to a regular rhyme scheme. Sonnet was invented by the Italian poet, Francesco Petrarch in the early 14th century. Sonnet makes it easier to express deep thought and emotion. In English poetry, there are three types of sonnet: the Italian, the Shakespearean and the Spenserian. These three types of sonnet all consist of 14 lines, but the rhyme schemes are different.

A poison tree
I was angry with my friend:
I told my wrath, my wrath did end.
I was angry with my foe; /fəʊ/
I told it not, my wrath did grow. /grəʊ/
And I water'd it in fears,
Night & morning with my tears;
And I sunned it with my smiles
And with soft deceitful wiles.
And it grew both day and night,
Till it bore an apple bright;
And my foe beheld it shine,
And he knew that it was mine,
And into my garden stole
When the night had veil'd the pole:
In the morning glad I see
My foe outstretch'd beneath the tree
William Blake
Author: William Blake (28 November 1757 – 12 August 1827) was an English painter, poet and printmaker. Blake is now considered a seminal figure in the history of the poetry and visual arts of the Romantic Age. His prophetic poetry has been said to form "what is in proportion to its merits the least read body of poetry in the English language". His visual artistry led one contemporary art critic to proclaim him "far and away the greatest artist Britain has ever produced". In 2002, Blake was placed at number 38 in the BBC's poll of the 100 Greatest Britons. Although he lived in London his entire life, he produced a diverse and symbolically rich oeuvre, which embraced the imagination as "the body of God" or "human existence itself"
Poem:The poem relies on a trochaic beat. It consists of four stanzas, and begins with an emphasis on the first person. The rhythm of the poem is “aabb”. This poem is so vivid, strong sense of rhythm, make readers interested in it. The diction of this poem is very simple, which means you can easy to comprehend.
Theme: "A Poison Tree" is a poem written by William Blake, published in 1794 as part of his “Songs of Experience” collection. It describes the narrator's repressed feelings of anger to an individual. The poem explores themes of indignation, revenge, and more generally the fallen state of mankind.. It is possible to read the narrator as a divine figure who uses the tree to seduce mankind into disgrace. This use of the
fallen state can also be found in the poems "The Human Abstract" and "London" from the Songs of Experience series. The actual tree, described as a tree of "Mystery," appears again in "The Human Abstract," and both trees are grown within the mind.
