那么遇到具体问题的时候,我们到底怎么才能抓住句子的主干呢?这时候我们就需要对句子进行拆分,通过有效地拆分将重点提炼出来。

下面我们就来学习一下具体怎么拆分。

2. 快速拆分句子成分
任何句子都有其主语、谓语和宾语,我们首先要通过划分找到主句的主谓宾,重点考虑句子主要在讲什么,然后再看剩下的从句和短语,看其在表达什么,是否是做题所需要的。

下面我们通过两个例子来具体感受一下拆分步骤。

1). There is no doubt, however, that it is the increasing number of applicants with university education at all points in the process of engaging staff that has led to the greater importance of the curriculum vitae.
分析有插入语(however)的长难句时,我们首先把插入语去掉或提前。

然后我们可以看出句子真正的主干部分,是在no doubt后连接的从句中,而这个从句中有一个同学们在读文章时不易识别的结构:强调句(it is …that), 看出这个,那么这句话的主干就不难找出了,是the increasing number of applicants has led to the importance of the curriculum vitae, 即不断增加的申请人数使简历变得重要。

看完主干后,紧接着看剩下的短语,我们看到applicants后面紧跟着with university education, 限定了applicants的条件,即具有大学学历的申请者,再加上
一个状语的限制in the process of engaging staff, 即在员工录入的过程中,通过这样一系列的步骤后,整句话的意思就很清晰了。

2). Proponents of G-M foods argue using biotechnology in the production of food products has many benefits: it speeds up the process of breeding plants and animals with desired characteristics; can be used to introduce traits that a product wouldn‘t traditionally have; can improve the nutritional value of products; and can produce cheaper and more environmental-friendly fertilizers.
这句长难句的重点部分其实非常好找,就是Proponents of G-M foods argue using biotechnology in the production of food products has many benefits, 即转基因食物的倡导者指出,用生物技术生产食物有很多益处。

不难看出冒号后的一大段话讲的都是用生物技术生产食物具体有哪些好处。

三、平时如何训练
以上就是考试时应该注意的要点,那么平时我们应该怎样锻炼分析长难句的能力呢?下面给出两种方法:
1. 养成意群(sense group)阅读的习惯
我们平时在进行中文阅读时,往往读得很快,每一行匆匆一扫就能看懂大致的意思,我们用我们的母语可以做到快速阅读,外国人用他们的母语英语也能做到快速阅读。

那我们读英文是否也可以像读中文一样,快速一扫就能知道大概意思呢?答案是肯定的,其实我们之所以在读中文时可以达到那么快的速度是因为我们会几个词一块儿读,意思完整的一块儿读,而不是逐字地读。

那么相对地,读英文时,我们也可以通过长期训练达到几个词一起读的功力,把不能分割的词合并形成意群,这样将会大大提高我们的阅读速度。

平时我们可以搜集一些长难句,专门进行意群训练,慢慢养成快速阅读的习惯。

2. 尽量不要整句回看
很多同学平时在读文章的时候,往往会注意力不集中,看了一遍不懂就赶紧返回去再看,有时候看了一遍不懂,要看三、四遍,有的时候即使看了三、四遍还是不懂。

这个习惯非常不好,很容易打乱阅读文章的节奏(pace)。

所以平时在做雅思阅读或是阅读其他英文材料的时候,就要强迫自己高度集中注意力,一遍完成。

虽然训练的过程会很痛苦,但是经过一个阶段的训练,将会对我们的英语阅读有非常大的帮助。
