2. Why are photojournalists said to do physical editing while shooting and some mental editing on the way back to the office?

While shooting, photojournalists choose their shots in order to capture the picture what they see and they want to convey to the readers. For example, a photojournalist shooting a bustling street may deliberately exclude the beggars people who beg the rich people on the car when the red light . On the other hand, the same photojournalist may also shot photos that focus on the beggars, with the luxury cars and bustling street in the background, to emphasize the class segregation in that part of the city. On their way back to the office, the photojournalist would consider which photos would make the impact that they wanted and which one can impact the readers. And thenThey may decide which photos they were going to use
