Oil rigs have to be repairedfrequentlyand divers, who often have to work in darkness a hundred feet under water, have beenfrightened out of their wits by giant fish bumping into them as they work. Nowthey havehad special cages made to protect them from these monsters. The fish are notsharks orkiller whales, but favourite eating varieties like cod and skate which grow tounnaturalsizes, sometimes as much as twelve feet in length. Three factors have causedthese fishto grow so large: the warm water round the hot oil pipes under the sea; theplentifulsupply of food thrown overboard by the crews on the rigs; the total absence offishingboats around the oil rigs. As a result, the fish just eat and eat and grow andgrowin thelovely warm water. slip在这里表示“不经心的错误”、“失误”、“疏漏”:Youve made some slips (of the pen) in your report.

When he was nervous, he would sometimes make a slip of tongue.

Are you sure that it was just a slip of tongue? People will do anything to see a free show… He will do anything to save his childs life.

He will do anything for the child.

When the news got round that a comedy show would be presented at our local cinema by the P. and U. Bird Seed Company…

(2)get round在这里表示消息、谣言等“传开”(也能够用get around/about):The word soon got round that there was buried treasure in that cave.
