2、极目楚天舒：极目，放眼远望。
武昌一带在春秋战国时属于楚国的范围，所以作者把这一带的天空叫“楚天”。
舒，舒展，开阔。
作者在一九五七年二月十一日给黄炎培的信中说：“游长江二小时飘三十多里才达彼岸，可见水流之急。
都是仰游侧游，故用‘极目楚天舒’为宜。
”3、宽馀（yú）：指神态舒缓，心情畅快。
4、子在川上曰：逝者如斯夫：《论语·子罕》：“子在川上，曰：‘逝者如斯夫！不舍昼夜。
’”意思是孔子在河边感叹道：“时光像流水一样消逝，日夜不停。
”时光如流水，一去不复返；往者不可追，来者犹可惜。
5、风樯（qiáng）：樯，桅杆。
风樯，指帆船。
6、龟蛇：在词中实指龟山、蛇山。
7、一桥飞架南北：指当时正在修建的武汉长江大桥。
8、天堑（qiàn）：堑，沟壕。
古人把长江视为“天堑”。
9、巫山云雨：在四川省巫山县东南。

武昌鱼，指古武昌（今鄂城）樊⼝的鳊鱼，称团头鳊或团头鲂。
