An Introduction of Henan Province,但introduction 的意思为 the part that comes at the beginning and tells you what the rest of the book or talk is about,而该文是对河南省的一个较全面但简略的勾勒,故可用profile,其意为an analysis representing the extent to which something exhibits various characteristics,如:The newspaper publishes a profile of an emerging incorporation every week.(该报每周刊登一篇关于新公司的简介。
)
It has 8 national-level scenic spots… 開始。
“国家重点文物保护单位”可译为key state protection units for cultural relics。
[3]中,两个“2017”可不必重复,如“稳居中国第5位”可与“总值44988亿元”“人均生产总值47130元”结合译为ranked fifth in China with a GDP of 4.4988 trillion yuan and 47,130 yuan per capita。
[6]中,“一带一路”应遵照官方译法,即the Belt and Road(缩写B&R,全称the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road)。
“‘一带一路’倡议”为the Belt and Road Initiative。
同时,要在译文中使两个“河南”建立联系,但又不重复,故可采用句式“As an important center of …,Henan has…”。
“广迎四海宾客”则可为动宾结构welcomes guests from all over the world。
“互利共赢”为mutually beneficial win-win results。
【参考译文】
A Profile of Henan Province
[1] Henan Province, where three of the four well-known Chinese inventions—the compass,paper-making technology and gunpower—originated, is an important birthplace of the Chinese nation and civilization, having profound historical and cultural heritage and ranking first in cultural relics. [2] It has 8 national-level scenic spots, 358 key state protection units for cultural relics, 4 world-class geological parks and 11 national-level nature reserves in the Province.
[3] Henan is also an important economic province in China. In 2017, its gross domestic product ranked fifth in China with a GDP of 4.4988 trillion yuan and 47,130 yuan per capita, an increase of 7.8% and 7.4% respectively over the previous year. [4] The Province’s grain cultivation covers an area of 10.135 million hectares, with a grain yield of 59.734 million tons, an increase of 268,000 tons over the previous year.
[5] Its total industrial added value was 1.8807 trillion yuan, while retail sales of consumer goods totaled 1.9666 trillion yuan, an increase of 7.4% and 11.6% respectively on a year-on-year basis. Its CPI rose 1.4% over the previous year.
[6] As an important center of the “Belt and Road Initiative”, Henan has established trade links with more than 200 countries and regions. [7] With more attractive policies and a friendlier business environment, Henan Province now welcomes guests from all over the world to achieve mutually beneficial win-win results at a still higher level.。

I was once part of a government delegation to Italy to partake in a conference being held by energy industries world wide. Most of the conference was dedicated to the exhibitions where different industries set up their booths which would offer company products and services to prospective clients. However, the company employees knew Pakistan, short of resources, was “small fry”. So we Pakistanis were largely ignored by the American and European executives who were more interested in the big fish like Saudis, India, China, Brazil etc. We just mostly meandered about.During one of our strolls, we passed the Chinese delegation. All serious, taking notes, being engaged by an Italian woman who was explaining some kind of product to the head of the Chinese delegation. We stood a bit to the side and listened in politely, when the head of the Chinese delegation caught our eye, offered a friendly smile and handshake and asked if we were waiting for them to finish up.“Oh no, please continue.”, we replied. “Just wanted to say hi, we’re from Pakistan.”The Chinese gentleman’s face lit up instantly. “Pakistan!”He shook my hand warmly “Our brother!”he exclaimed. It was quite a moment. I remember every tiny detail from it even till today. The Italian lady’s surprise at how warmly we were being greeted. The other booth employees turning around to see what all the fuss was about. Their own looks of surprise at how the small fry, largely ignored Pakistani delegation was being treated so warmly by the most watched delegation of all, theChinese. It’s these small moments, these isolated incidents of human magic that people tend to miss out when they get confused over why China is so well liked by many of the developing world nations. Over the course of the conference, I interacted with other delegations from Africa, Eastern Europe, Central Asia and so on and they all had the same respect and positive impression for the Chinese delegation. Whether it was a delegate from Africa or Asia, no matter what their country’s size and importance, they were treated warmly and with mutual respect by the Chinese as if their country was the same as China in size, importance and power. From what I have experienced, Chinese partners came to our country and worked with us side by side through day and night, rain and snow. Together, we suffered the mosquito bite, lived, ate, played football and exchanged films in USB.Perhaps many people can not dawn on what I said because of their lack of personal experiences. Pakistan has always been associated with poverty, violence, terrorism and instability. But Chinese still consider themselves as one of us. Not imperial overlords or racial superiors or strict masters and so on. But comrades to the developing world, partners in our struggles and a developing country just like us who share in our troubles, concerns and visions for a mutually beneficial future.

Traces of microplastics and hazardous chemicals found in majority of snow and ice samples taken earlier this year.Plastic and traces of hazardous chemicals have been found in Antarctica, one of the world’s last great wildernesses, according to a new study.Researchers spent three months taking water and snow samples from remote areas of the continent earlier this year. These have now been analysed and researchers have confirmed the majority contained “persistent hazardous chemicals” or microplastics. The findings come amid growing concern about the extent of the plastic pollution crisis which scientists have warned risks “permanent contamination” of the planet.Earlier this week, the UN warned it is one of the world’s biggest environmental threats and said although 60 countries were taking urgent action more needed to be done. The new report by researchers at Greenpeace is part of global campaign to create the world’s biggest ocean sanctuary in the seas around Antarctica to protect the fragile ecosystem from industrial fishing and climate change.Frida Bengtsson, of Greenpeace’s Protect the Antarctic campaign, said the findings proved that even the most remote areas of the planet were not immune from the impact of manmade pollution.“We need action at source,to stop these pollutants ending up in the Antarctic in the first place, and we need an Antarctic ocean sanctuary to give space for penguins, whales and the entire ecosystem to recover from the pressures they’re facing,” she said.Seven of the eight sea-surface water samples tested contained microplastics such as microfibres. Seven of the nine snow samples tested contained detectable concentrations of the persistent hazardous chemicals – polyfluorinated alkylated substances, or PFAS.Researchers said the chemicals are widely used in many industrial processes and consumer products and have been linked to reproductive and developmental issues in wildlife. They said the snowsamples gathered included freshly fallen snow, suggesting the hazardous chemicals had come from contaminated rain or snowfall.Prof Alex Rogers, a specialist in sustainable oceans at the Oxford Martin school, Oxford University, said the discovery of plastics and chemicals in Antarctica confirmed that manmade pollutants were now affecting ecosystems in every corner of the world. And he warned the consequences of this pervasive contamination remained largely unknown.“The big question now is what are the actual consequences of finding this stuff here? Many of these chemicals are pretty nasty and as they move up the food chain they may be having serious consequences for the health of wildlife, and ultimately humans. The effects of microplastics on marine life, likewise, are largely not understood,” he said. There is relatively little data on the extent of microplastics in Antarctic waters, and researchers said they hoped this new study would lead to a greater understanding of the global extent of plastic and chemical pollutants.Bengtsson said: “Plastic has now been found in all corners of our oce ans, from the Antarctic to the Arctic and at the deepest point of the ocean, the Mariana trench. We need urgent action to reduce the flow of plastic into our seas and we need large-scale marine reserves – like a huge Antarctic ocean sanctuary which over 1.6m people are calling for – to protect marine life and our oceans for future generations.”(分数:50.00)__________________________________________________________________________________________正确答案:(在今年早些时候采集的大部分冰雪样本中发现了微量塑料和有害化学物质。

11月翻译资格考题三级英语笔译实务试卷Section 1:英译汉(50 分)Plans are well under way for a year of celebrations to mark the upcoming bicentennial of one of Poland's favorite native sons-Frédéric, Chopin. The prestigious International Chopin Competition for pianists will mark its 16th edition in October 2010. Held every five years, the competition draws scores of young musicians from all over the world. In addition, Warsaw's Chopin Museum, with the world's largest collection of Chopin documents and other artifacts, will undergo a total redesign, modernization and expansion.A lavishly illustrated new guidebook called "Chopin's Poland" was already published this year. It leads visitors to dozens of sites in Warsaw and elsewhere around the country where the composer lived, ate, studied, performed, visited or even partied."Actually, Chopin doesn't need to be promoted, but we hope that Poland and Polish culture can be promoted through Chopin," said Monika Strugala, who is coordinating the Chopin 2010 program under the aegis of the Fryderyk ChopinInstitute, a body set up by the Sejm in 2001 to promote and protect Chopin's work and image."We want to confirm to all that he is a very, very important Polish symbol," she said. Indeed, it's not much of an exaggeration to say that Chopin's music flows through the Polish national consciousness like some sort of cultural lifeblood. The son of a Polish mother and a French émigréfather, Chopin was born in a manor house at Zelazowa Wola, about 50 kilometers, or 30 miles, west of Warsaw, and moved to Warsaw as an infant. The manor is something of a Chopin shrine-since the 1930 s it has been a museum and center for concerts. Like the Chopin Museum in Warsaw, it, too, is undergoing extensive renovation as part of bicentennial preparations.Chopin spent his first 20 years in and around Warsaw. He was already a noted pianist as a boy and composed concertos and other important works as a teenager. He carried Polish soil with him when he left Warsaw on a concert tour in 1830, just a few weeks before the outbreak of the November Uprising, an abortive Polish revolt against Czarist Russia, which then ruled Warsaw and a broad swath of Polishterritory.Chopin remained in exile in France after the uprising was crushed. But so attached was he to his native land that after his death in Paris in 1849 his heart-on his own instructions-was brought back to Warsaw for interment. The rest of his body is buried in the Père Lachaise cemetery in Paris."For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also,"reads the Biblical inscription on a plaque where his heart is kept today, preserved in an urn and concealed in a pillar of the Holy Cross Church in central Warsaw. Mozart's"Requiem" will be performed here as part of Bicentennial events.Exile and patriotism, as well as extraordinary genius, have long made Chopin's appeal transcend all manner of social and political divides.Polish folk motifs thread through some of his finest pieces, and patriotic fervor,as well as homesick longing, infuse some of his best-known works.

Section 1: English-Chinese Translation (50 points)Translate the following passage into Chinese. For generations, coal has been the lifeblood of this mineral-rich stretch of eastern Utah. Mining families proudly recall all the years they toiled underground. Supply companies line the town streets. Above the road that winds toward the mines, a soot-smudged miner peers out from a billboard with the slogan “Coal = Jobs.”But recently, fear has settled in. The state’s oldest coal-fired power plant, tucked among the canyons near town, is set to close,a result of new, stricter federal pollution regulations. As energy companies tack away from coal, toward cleaner, cheaper natural gas, people here have grown increasingly afraid that their community may soon slip away. Dozens of workers at the facility here, the Carbon Power Plant, have learned that they must retire early or seek other jobs. Local trucking and equipment outfits are preparing to take business elsewhere.“There are a lot of people worried,” said Kyle Davis, who has been employed at the plant since he was 18.But Rocky Mountain Power, the utility that operates the plant, has determined that it would be too expensive to retrofit the agingplant to meet new federal standards on mercury emissions. The plant is scheduled to be shut by April 2015.For the last several years, coal plants have been shutting down across the country, driven by tougher environmental regulations, flattening electricity demand and a move by utilities toward natural gas.The Environmental Protection Agency estimates that the stricter emissions regulations for the plants will result in billions of dollarsin related health savings, and will have a sweeping impact on air quality.“Coal plants are t he single largest source of dangerous carbon pollution in the United States, and we have ready alternatives like wind and solar to replace them,” said Bruce Nilles, director of the Sierra Club’s Beyond Coal campaign, which wants to shut all of the nation’s coal plants. For many here, coal jobs are all they know. The industry united the area during hard times, too, especially during the dark days after nine men died in a 2007 mining accident some 35 miles down the highway. Virtually everyone around Price knew the men, six of whom remain entombed in the mountainside. But there is quiet acknowledgment that Carbon County will have to change — if not now, soon.Pete Palacios, who worked in the mines for 43 years, has seen coal roar and fade here. Now 86, his eyes grew cloudy as he recalled his first mining job. He was 12, and earned $1 a day. “I’m retired, soI’ll be fine. But these young guys?” Pete Palacios said, his voice trailing off.Section 2: Chinese-English Translation (50 points)Translate the following passage into English.

知识改变命运,勤奋成就人生李振龙全国翻译专业资格(水平)考试2018年5月CATTI 三级笔译实务真题Section 1: English-Chinese translation(英译汉)(50points) Improved human well-being is one of the greatest triumphs of the modern era. The age of plenty has also led to an unexpected global health crisis: two billion people are either overweight or obese. Developed countries have been especially susceptible to unhealthy weight gain. However, developing countries are now facing a similar crisis. Obesity rates have peaked in high income countries but are accelerating elsewhere. The combined findings of the World Health Organization and the World Bank showed that in 2016 Asia was home to half the world’s overweight children. One quarter were in Africa. Residents of developing nation cities are increasingly susceptible to obesity. According to India’s National Institute of Nutrition, over a quarter of urban-dwelling men and nearly half of women are overweight. The majority of the world’s future urbanization is projected to occur in developing countries, particularly in Asia and Africa. This crisis will test the political resolve of governments that have historically focused on ending hunger. These governments must understand that the factors making cities convenient and productive also make their residents prone to obesity. Urbanites enjoy a variety of food. Additionally, international fast food chains are flourishing in developing countries. The health risks of such diets are compounded by the sedentary lifestyles of urban dwellers. People’s leisure time is also being occupied by television, movies, and video games in the growing number of households. The alarming implication of these trends is that developing countries may become sick before they get rich. That sickness may, in turn, cripple health systems. The yearly health care costs in Southeast Asia of obesity-related complications like diabetes and cardiovascular disease are already as high as US $10 billion. Such diseases are an added burden on countries already struggling to manage primary health care needs. Policies related to taxation, urban design, education and awareness and the promotion of localised food systems may help control obesity at a lower cost than eventual medical treatment for an ageing and increasingly overweight population. Some governments have already experimented with direct interventions to control obesity, such as taxation on unhealthy foods and drinks. The US pioneered the soda tax movement. Thailand, Brunei, and Singapore have adopted similar measures. South Africa is likely to introduce a sugar tax beginning in April 2018.The city of Berkeley in California recognizes that taxes alone are not enough to address obesity. Proceeds from the city’s sugar tax are used to support child nutrition and community health programmes. This underscores the importance of education and awareness.。
