Wuhan is the capital city of Hubei province.[1]The Y angtze River and its largest branch the Hanshui divide Wuhan into three parts, namely Wuchang, Hankou and Hanyang.[2] The temperature can reach 40 centigrade in summer, and the hot weather lingers for two months. [3]Wuhan’s hot weather has led to some special customs among local people. In the summer there is no more enjoyable entertainment than swimming. Many swimmers take great delight in swimming across the Y angtze River. [4] From 1956 Mao Zedong swam across it 18 times, and wrote many famous poems.Like many famous cities have their special food, Wuhan also has a lot. Famous Wuhan snacks include Laotongcheng’s sanxian doupi, Cailinji’s reganmian, Xiaotaoyuan’s soup, Sijimei’s baozi, Wufangzhai’s tangyuan and Xierongde’s mianwo.[5]Wuhan also has many places of historic interest. On top of Snake Mountain in Wuchang on the south bank, rises the Y ello Crane Tower (Huanghelou). Many poets wrote some poems about this Tower. The tower is one of the top three ancient towers of southern China; the others being the Yuyang Tower in Hunan and Tengwangge Tower in Jiangxi.[6]Nowadays, Wuhan becomes Chinese Silicon V alley. The high technology state in Wuhan is called Optical V alley. [2] It is the country’s largest base and leading R&D base for optical fiber and cable.
