在语言上，中国人在说明问题时会运用比喻、暗示的方法，让人们产生联想，以达到某种寓意。
而英语正相反，它比较直接，直奔主题，然后加上修饰成分，定语一般放在中心词的后面，状语一般放在动词之后，尽管偶尔也可以状语前置。
二、中西文化差异对日常用语的影响1.在称呼方面中国人比较注重礼节，会根据对方的身份、与自己的亲疏关系以及不同场合，使用不同的称谓，以示敬意。

而实际上，由于不了解语言的文化背景，不了解中西文化的差异，在英语学习和应用过程中歧义误解现象屡见不鲜，这无疑会严重影响交际和沟通。
例如，中国人蔑视狗，汉语中的“狗”带有“讨厌、卑鄙”等贬义，像“走狗”、“狗奴才”、“狼心狗肺”等，而西方人却对“dog”情有独钟，认为它是人类最忠实的朋友，把它作为宠物。
人们欣赏狗的勇敢和忠诚，对狗的赞誉也屡见于习语和谚语中，并把人比作狗，如：“a lucky dog”（幸运儿），“an old dog”（老手），“everydoghashisday.”（凡人皆有得意日）等等。
