位敦市安定阳光实验学校阅读理解基础训练Passage 1(中学高三检测)German inventors Falk Wolsky and Daniel Kaesma have created a digital pen, which can check for spelling mistakes in handwriting. The idea came from Wolsky's wife while she was helping her son with his homework. It will help children and adults develop their writing and spelling skills. The Lernstift, which is German for learning pen, has a built-in sensor. It can recognize writing movements and track the shape of the letters to recognize words. It then vibrates (震动) when a mistake is made. Lernstift also has Wi-Fi built-in, and the pen can be connected to a smart-phone or PC to upload written texts online, share them on social networks or take part in writing training.Current digital pens use optical (光学) sensors to pick up the writing movements and digitize (数字化) the words or sketches, so that they can be used on a computer. Some of these pens require additional devices, while others only work with special paper. Lernstift is different, because it has the technology and software built-in.The computer inside Lernstift is an embedded Linux operating system. The board contains a non-optical motion sensor, processor, memory, Wi-Fi and vibration module. The motion sensor recognizes all writing movements, even if the pen is used to write in the air. This means Lernstift doesn't need any additional recognition devices or special paper to work on.The pen has two functions: Orthography Mode is used to recognize misspellings and will vibrate when a word is spelt incorrectly. Calligraphy Mode is used to point out flaws in the form of handwriting, to make it neater. Future models will also be able to point out grammatical mistakes such as wrong word order.Lernstift uses a built-in handwriting software to compare the written words with the correct spellings. The software has over 40 languages, and Lernstift will be launched in English and German before being rolled out to more languages. This means it could be used to help people learn new languages.1.Who came up with the idea of Lernstift pen?A. Wolsky’s wifeB. Wolsky’s son.C. Kaesma’s wife.D. Kaesma’s son.2.What’s special about the Lernstift pen?A. It can make you write more quickly without making a mistake.B. It can write words for a long time without stopping.C. It can check for spelling errors and vibrate when you make a mistake.D. It can remind you to have a rest when you make a spelling mistake.3. It’s believed that future models of Lernstift pen can ____________.A. recognize misspellings in wordsB. point out flaws in the form of handwritingC. correct spelling mistakes of itselfD. check for grammatical errors4. What can we get to know from the text?A. There will be no spelling mistakes in people’s writing paper.B. Children can finish homework as soon as possible with the Lernstift pen.C. With the help of the Lernstift pen, people come to learn 40 languages.D. The Lernstift pen will help people develop their writing and spelling skills.【文章大意】Wolsky研制了一种型的可识别书写错误的钢笔Lernstift,以震动的形式来提醒使用者。

One morning more than thirty years ago, I entered the Track Kitchen, a restaurant where everyone from the humblest(卑微的) to the most powerful came for breakfast. I noticed an empty chair next to an elderly, unshaven man, who looked somewhat disheveled. He was wearing a worn-out hat and was alone. I asked if I might join him. He agreed quietly and I sat down to have my breakfast. We cautiously began a conversation and spoke about a wide rang of things. We never introduced ourselves. "A coffee would be nice." Then I bought him a cup of coffee. We talked more, and he accepted another cup of coffee, Finally, I rose to leave, wished him well, and headed for the exit. At the door I met one of my friends. He asked, "How did you get to know Mr. Gal breath?" "Who?" "The man you were sitting with. He is chairman of the Board of Churchill Downs." 定额市鞍钢阳光实验学校2014高考英语阅读理解全程基础训练(21)及答案阅读理解-------BImagine putting a seed in a freezer, waiting 30,000 years, and then taking the seed out and planting it. Do you think a flower would grow? Amazingly, scientists have just managed to do something very similar. They found the fruit of an ancient plant that had been frozen underground in Siberia — a region covering central and eastern Russia — for about 31,800 years. Using pieces of the fruit, the scientists grew plants in a lab. The new blooms have delicate white petals. They are also the oldest flowering plants that researchers have ever revived from a deep freeze.“This is like regenerating a dinosaur from tissues of an ancient egg,” s aid University of California, Los Angeles biologist Jane Shen-Miller.The plant has a long history. Back when mammoths and woolly rhinoceroses walked the land, an Arctic ground squirrel buried seeds and fruits in an underground chamber near the Kolyma River in northeastern Siberia. The ground became permafrost, a layer of soil that stays frozen for a long time.Recently, Russian scientists dug out the old squirrel hole and found the plant remains 38 meters below the surface. Back at the lab, the team fed nutrients to tissue from three of the fruits to grow shoots. Then the scientists transferred the shoots to pots filled with soil. The plants produced seeds that could be used to grow even more of them. It’s important for scientists to know that p lant tissues can still be revived after being frozen for a long time. That’s because many researchers are trying to preserve the seeds of modern plants by freezing them and then storing them in giant lockers at various spots around the globe. One such endeavor, an underground facility in Norway, is called the Svalbard Global Seed Vault. It stores hundreds of thousands of frozen seeds. If a plant ever goes extinct, scientists could bring it back by taking its seeds from the Svalbard or other storage lockers.“No one knows how long they are able to live for, but freezing is basically the format for many plant conservation attempts nowadays.” Shen-Miller said. It’s a good thing that at least some plants are tough enough to survive the experience.31. How did the fruit originally get underground?A. It was placed there by an animal.B. It was trapped there during the ice-age.C. It was planted there by ancient farmers.D. It was buried there after the earthquake.【答案】A【解析】细节理解题。

AFifty has never looked better. It’s been 50 years since the first James Bond film, Dr. No, premiered (首映) in cinemas. As first embodied by Scottish actor Sean Connery, Agent 007 was a fearless, cool-as-ice spy who excelled at sleuthing(侦查), fighting and saving the world.Since then, more than 20 films featuring the iconic spy have been released–making it one of the longest-running franchises (授权) in the history of cinema. On Nov 9, the 23rd Bond movie, Skyfall, celebrated the legend’s 50th birthday.Over the years, audiences have changed. It doesn't matter. Six different actors have acted 007 and it doesn't matter. Even shocking technological and cultural cha nges can’t bend Bond. Why? Is it the action, the sexy women, the cars, the gadgets and the exotic locations? Yes, but the most important reason is still the man himself. Bond can challenge his boss and shoot a bad guy in mere minutes. He is an expert in literature, languages, art and fine wines. He has a sharp tongue besides his wits.In the first film Dr. No, as Connery lit a cigarette, we heard James Bond’s voice and saw his café for the first time. The simple scene and short phrase have defined the character for half a century.“Next to the Beatles and Stones, James Bond was the greatest British import of the 1960s,” David Kamp, a US contributing editor for Vanit y Fair, wrote in a recent article about the birth of Bond and its influence on the US.The Bond phenomenon has clearly affected movie culture, pop culture and spy culture. But perhaps the most amazing thing is that 007 has survived in the age of feminism(女权主义). “Talking of objectifying women, Bond is essential Huge Henfner (founder of Playboy magazine) with a gun,” movie critic Xan Brooks told The Guardian. “But women liked Bond, too. He couldn’t have run for 50 years with male fans alone.”We love Bond for many reasons—after all 50 years, Bond is still breathtaking. thrilling ride into the very heart of an icon like no other. But most of all, we may love him for one reason: “he always gets away with it.” one said.【文章大意】本文叙述了詹姆斯邦德电影50年来一直受欢迎。

2014高考英语阅读理解全程基础训练(5)及答案阅读理解------BPeople who enjoy a dream-filled sleep are better at recalling information and making links between facts when waking. But recharging with a shallow (小睡) offers no such mental improvement, the research suggests. The results of the study added to the growing body of evidence that Rapid Eye Movement (REM) sleep is very important to the brain’s ability to form strong memories. An average night's rest includes four or five spells of REM sleep, but these bursts tend to be lengthier towards the end of the night. This means adults getting less than the recommended seven to eight hours a night -- and therefore inadequate REM sleep -- may be damaging their mind's ability to memorize: Although REM sleep is not classified as a type of deep sleep, it is only reached after the brain has passed through deep sleep stages. In the recent study, participants were shown groups of three word s --- such as “cookie”, “heart”, and “sixteen”----and asked to find another word that can be associated with all three words. They were tested once in the morning and then given the same task again in the afternoon. In between, some were allowed a nap with REM sleep, some a nap without REM sleep, while the others had a quiet rest period. The quiet rest and non-REM sleep groups didn't improve, but the REM sleep group improved on their morning performance by an average of almost 40 per cent.Dr Sara Mednick, a sleep researcher at the University of California who led the study, believes the formation of connections between previously unassociated information in the brain occurs during REM sleep. 阅读理解--------CWhen Joan gave birth to the first boy in her family in three generations, she and her husband were overjoyed. So were her parents. Joan expected her elder sister, Sally, to be just as delighted as them. Joan had always admired Sally--the beauty and the star of the family--and felt happy about her achievements. But since the baby's arrival, the sisters have become distant. Joan feels hurt for Sally seems completely uninterested in her baby. Sally, who has no children, claims that her younger sister "acts as if no one ever had a beby before."Neither Sally nor Joan understands that the real cause of the current coldness is that their family roles have suddenly changed to the opposite. Finally Joan seems to be better than her elder sister--and Sally doesn't like it! Their distance may be temporary, but it shows that childhood competition don't fade easily as ages grow. It can remain powerful in relationships throughout life.In a study of the University of Cincinnati,65 men and women between ages 25 and 93 were asked how they felt about their brothers and sisters. Nearly 75 percent admitted having hidden competitive feelings. In a few cases, these emotions were so strong as to have affected their entire lives. Many adult brothers and sisters are close, supportive--yet still tend to compete. Two brothers I know turn into killers when on opposite sides of a tennis net. Off the court, they are the best of friends. My own younger sister can't wait to tell me when I've put on weight. However, she's a terrible cook and that pleases me; I tease her when she comes to dinner. Happily, despite these small failings, we have been an important resource for each other. In between the very competitive and the generally supportive children lie those who say that no friendship should survive. Some brothers and sisters stay at arm's length, hut never give up competition completely. Why do these puzzling, unproductive, often painful relationships continue to exist?36. When Joan's son was born, Sally .A. felt very happyB. was undelightedC. moved awayD. admired her a lot【答案】B【解析】细节理解题。
