I used to be really shy about speaking English in front of people, but the club has helped me get over that.After the warmup and speaking practice, we spend most of the time actually rehearsing and staging our play for the end of year performance. This year, we're doing a play called "The Hummingbird's Quest" which is all about a tiny hummingbird who goes on an epic journey through the rainforest. It's a comedy with singing and dancing too!The best part is that everyone gets a role, either as one of the main characters or as part of the ensemble cast and crew. I was cast as Jasmine the jaguar, who is the hummingbird's friend.I have a few solo lines, plus I get to make jaguar movements and sounds which is really fun. We even have costumes and props that parent volunteers are making for us.Rehearsing the play scenes is a lot of work, but it's also a blast. We block out where everyone moves on stage, practice our lines over and over, and work on our stage presence. I never knew how much effort goes into putting on a show!Last week, we started learning the music and choreography too. There's a big dance number called "The Creatures of theNight" where all the rainforest animals like me, the sloths, toucans, and butterflies get to boogie. I can't wait to show off my moves!The best thing about Drama Club is that I've become really close friends with a lot of the other kids. We all encourage and support each other. If someone messes up during rehearsal, we just laugh it off and keep going. It's such a fun, positive environment.I also feel like my English has improved a ton. Having to memorize lines, sing songs, and stay in character the whole time has really helped my fluency and confidence when speaking English. My parents have noticed a big difference in how I communicate now.The club has even inspired me to start writing and directing my own little plays at home with my siblings. We've put on several backyard performances for our parents already.
