A

Dear Prashant KD,

Thank you for taking the time to post a review on Trip Advisor.I feel very sad to read your remarks and apologize for your disappointment.

I apologize for any unsatisfied feelings caused regarding our renovations. There are 2 projects going on at present-first to create 2 new gorgeous rainforest swimming pools at the south wing. These 2 new pools are 37m and 30m in length. Noisy work will be restricted between the hours of 10 am and 5 pm. During this time, the beach will remain undisturbed by south wing work, thanks to the good soundproofing offered by the trees in front of the south wing.

The second project at the moment is the replacement of the roof. We are doing this section by section and planning the phases to minimize disruption. I apologize if "falling roof tiles”disturbed your stay. I offer no excuses for that. We have a strict set of house rules for our roof contractors and it's important to me that this work is well controlled. We do try our best to ensure that the renovation work does not disturb our guests. Please accept my sincere apologies.

Thank you once again for your comments and feedbacks. In the event that your travel schedule ever brings you back to Langkawi, I would be delighted if you would contact me directly-anne.scott@https://www.360docs.net/doc/344797619.html,. How many times in our lives do we wait? We wait for little things: For our food at restaurants, for

tickets to see the newest movie and for spring to come with new life. We wait for big things: For our acceptance letters in the mail, for our families to come home from war and for our retirement to set us free from our career.

And so often when we wait, we feel as though we are wasting time. In this day and age, we are known as the here-and-now generation. We have an uncomfortable feeling towards waiting. We don't wait on our touch screens and we don't wait in our email. My mother says I am spoiled because I have grown up in the age of technology. I think what she said is right.

We have forgotten the fun of standing in line with our friends before the closed store doors in the early. We have forgotten the stories we share as we wait for our waiter to come with our food. We have forgotten that the best part of Christmas is not Christmas Day, but the waiting for Christmas. Nowadays we are so busy with “living life" that we have forgotten that most of life is supposed to be taken in slowly, and then enjoyed.

“I'll wait fo r you," were some of the last words I said to my friend as he left for the college. They were similar to the words my grandfather said at his wife's funeral. They were the same words my cousin whispered to me when I was afraid to use my grandfather's outhouse in the dark. They were the words my brother used when he walked with me to the bus in the morning to school.

56.What does the writer mainly try to express in Paragraph 1?

A. People spend much time waiting.

B. We should learn to love to wait.

C. Waiting helps to set people free.

57.What does the underlined phrase "here-and-now generation" refer to in Paragraph 2?

A. People who use modern technology.

B. People who always waste time.

C. People who dislike waiting.

D. People who are spoiled.

58.What is the writer's attitude towards technology?

A. Critical.

B. Casual.

C. Positive.

D. Cautious.

59.What's the writer's understanding of waiting?

A. It is a very common act.

B. It is an expression of love.

C. It is always a hard process.

D. It is sometimes misunderstood.

60.What is the best title for the passage?

A. The importance of waiting.

B. The beauty of waiting.

C. Why are we waiting?

D. How does waiting influence us?

C

Some scientists are carrying out a study with a program named BioEYES. Students collect

zebrafish embryos(胚胎)and watch them develop from single cells to swimming little babies with beating hearts. Elementary students learn about human and fish bodily structure, habitats, cells, and DNA. Middle school students identify the clear characteristics of young zebrafish. And in high school, students learn how scientists determine the genetic makeup of parents by studying the young zebrafish. The program lasts for a week, during which all students observe the zebrafish, analyze their data and discuss the results like real scientists.

The researchers analyzed the performance of 19,463 students who participated in BioEYES from 2010 to 2015.Before and after the program, students were asked knowledge-based questions and questions to assess their attitude towards science. After experiencing BioEYES, elementary school students improved their knowledge of scientific concepts covered in the program 48percent,while middle school scores and high school scores rose 27 percent.

“The results suggest students are particularly able to grasp concepts even complex ones-when they are delivered through an actual, hands-on experience," the researchers say. Farber, a biologist, also says the chance to work with live animals focuses children's attention in a way a book lesson can't.

BioEYES operates in 104 schools in the United States and 25 in Australia. In Baltimore, the program runs in 45 public schools, reaching more than4,000 students a year. The program is taught by classroom teachers who train alongside educators from the Carnegie Institution and universities, as well as by. "model teachers" who train with BioEYES staff for three years before running the program on their own.

"You see a whole different side of them when they're learning something that's real," said Kelley Taylor, a teacher."I have some bright students here, and they are definitely making the connection that science is changing people's lives. There is no doubt that they will make some contributions to the society."

Travelers who put an e-reader rather than a pile of books into their luggage can make extra room for clothes and might even protect themselves from a hefty surcharge(高额附加费)from the airline. Although an e-reader costs around 100,it can store 1,000 books. It is also much lighter than a book. A Kindle Paperwhite e-reader, with high-resolution screen, weighs less than eight ounces. In contrast, a must-read summer book weighs on average 14 ounces.

Airlines such as Ryanair will charge a large sum of money, if your luggage is over 20 kilograms. Therefore, if you break the limit with a bag(25 kilograms) which is filled with heavy tomes(巨著),you will get hit with an excess charge of&10 for every kilo.

Mathilde Lundsberg-Nielsen, a student from Cobham in Surrey, believes there is no substitute for a real book when relaxing at home, but on holiday she enjoys the convenience of an e-reader. She can download many novels for free and even recently published books are cheaper than those in the bookstores. Her Kindle has even introduced her to novels she would otherwise not have read-a result of downloadi ng "taster”extracts for free. By doing this, she has gone on to read all four books in The Fallen Star by Jessica Sorensen.

Stuart Miles, founder of website Pocket-lint, says that before buying an e-reader you should see if you are happy to read a book on a handheld device. If you already have a smartphone or tablet then why not download a book for free? There are plenty of free reading apps, which will soon get you hooked up. If you are not particularly thrilled by the experience, then maybe an e-reader is not for you, but those who feel it good should consider investing in a dedicated e-reader device. But remember, simplicity is often key-do not be attracted by all the clever extras that you might find on a tablet but instead invest in a device aimed at readers.

66.What can we know about e-readers from Paragraph 1?

A. It only needs little charge from airlines.

B. It has lots of advantages for travelers.

C. It is really expensive.

D. It is a little heavier than a book.

67.How much will Ryanair charge if you have a 25-kg bag during travel?

A. £10.

B. £50.

C. £200.

D. £250.

68.From the passage, we know Mathilde thinks _________.

A. it is very important to read during travel

B. nothing can replace the joy of reading during travel

C. nothing can replace a real book during travel

D. it is convenient to read on an e-reader during travel

69.From the passage, Mathilde's e-reader _________

A. helps her buy books with a discount

B. makes her relax completely at home

C. recommends books to her

D. introduces famous writers to her

70.What's Stuart Miles' attitude toward buying an e-reader?

A. Supportive.

B. Opposed.

C. Indifferent.

D. Objective.

第II卷(非选择题共35分)

第三部分:写作(共两节;满分35分)

第一节阅读表达(共5小题:每小题2分,满分10分)阅读下面短文,按要求用英语回答问题。

I have had many wonderful trips with my family to Lima, Peru in South America. Every summer holiday, we travelled to Lima, Peru to visit our Spanish family relatives. And every time, we had a good time there.

The last few times I've visited Peru with my family, I've been noticing and learning so much on how divergent it is compared to the United States. For example, the food in Peru is much fresher when you eat it, unlike in the U.S., where many restaurants, stores, and fast-food places keep it frozen for a long time till it's cooked.

Some of the most interesting places I've been to during my visit in Lima, Peru are the Lima Art Museum, the Legends Park and the Larcomar Mall. In the Lima Art Museum, there are many artworks from pre-Columbian times to this present day. Getting to visit the Legends Park was an amazing experience. I even encountered Peru's most fascinating animal, llamas, which gave me a big surprise. Last but not least, when being at the Larcomar Mall, I've got to experience the beauty and excitement when shopping there. I got to purchase many beautiful modern and cultural souvenirs there to give out to my relatives and friends that were in the United States.

My advice on how to make the most of a cultural experience is visiting the historical sites, trying the cultural foods, and meeting the local people. I am truly proud of the fact that Peru is a part of me. It is such an amazing destination to travel to, and it seriously has everything that you would be looking for. What I truly love most are the warm-hearted people over there, who many times, treat you as family .I

just know that once you visit Peru, you will not want to leave.

A China is a land of bicycles. At least it was back in 1992 when I traveled the country. Back then everyone seemed to be riding a bicycle. Millions of them, all black. Cars were rare. Yet since my arrival in Beijing last year, I've found the opposite is true. There are millions of cars. However, people still use their bicycles to get around. For many, it's the easiest and cheapest way to travel today. Bicycles also come in different colors—silver, green, red, blue, yellow, whatever you want. It's fun watching people biking. They rush quickly through crossroads, move skillfully through traffic, and ride even on sidewalks.Bicycles allow people the freedom to move about that cars just can't provide. Eager to be part of this aspect of Chinese culture, I decided to buy a bicycle. Great weather accompanied my great buy. I immediately jumped up on my bicycle seat and started home. My first ride home was orderly. To be safe, I stayed with a “pack” of bikers while cars on the streets came running swiftly out of nowhere at times. I didn't want to get hit. So I took the ride carefully. Crossing the streets was the biggest problem. It was a lot like crossing a major highway back in the United States. The streets here were wide, so crossing took time, skill and a little bit of luck. I finally made it home. The feeling on the bicycle was amazing. The air hitting my face and going through my hair was wonderful. I was sitting on top of the world as I passed by places and people. Biking made me feel alive. 21. According to the author, why are bicycles still popular in China today? A.Because they are traditional and safe. B.Because they are convenient and inexpensive. C.Because they are colorful and available. D.Because they are fast and environment friendly. 22. The author decided to buy a bicycle because he intended ________. A.to ride it for fun B.to use it for transport C.to experience local culture D.to improve his riding skills 23.How did the author feel about his street crossing? A.It was boring. B.It was difficult. C.It was lively. D.It was wonderful. 24. Which of the following best describes the author's biking experience? A.The author enjoyed showing off his biking skills. B.The author was annoyed by the air while riding. C.The author was praised by the other bikers. D.The author took great pleasure in biking. B A popular saying goes, “Sticks and stone may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.”However, that's not really true. Words have the power to build us up or tear us down. It doesn't matter if the words come from someone else or ourselves-the positive and negative effects are just as lasting. We all talk to ourselves sometimes. We're usually too embarrassed to admit it, though. But we really shouldn't be, because more and more experts believe talking to ourselves out loud is a healthy habit. This self-talk helps us motivate ourselves, remember things, solve problems, and calm ourselves down. Beware, though, that as much as 77% of self-talk tends to be negative. So in order to stay positive, we should only speak words of encouragement to ourselves. We should also be quick to give ourselves a pat on the back. The next time you finish a project, do well in a test, or finally clean your room, join me in saying, “Good job !”

(4)in that 35 1 which 33 1 whichever 30 1 where 28 1 交际用语如何应答21 1 其中22、27、35的错误率较高。
