• 格式固定
经贸英语大多涉及询价、 报价、 还盘、 订货、 付款方式、 交货与装运、 保险与索赔等合同， 且大多采用格式化合同。(1)便于操作 ,统一的格 式可填写各种不同内容 ,既方便又简单。(2)便 于约束 ,因为合同的形式与内容均受法律保护。
经贸英语翻译原则
• 文体适合性
译文与原文从文体角度上来说是相应的， 不同文体翻译成另一种语言后读者会感 到所用的语言与原文是符合的。比如商 务信函翻译后还是商务信函，合同语言 翻译后读起来还是合同语言。熟悉经贸 方面的知识，了解经贸各种文本的语言 特点和表达法。
例1：Marketing occurs when people decide to satisfy needs and wants through exchange.
【原译】因此，一种货币上升时既不得高于固定点， 下降时也不能低于它。这个固定点就称之为“干预 点”。
在这里points 是表示两种情形——“升值”与“贬 值”，而不是原文的“上升”和“下降”, intervention points 是指“价格波动的上下限”， 同样含有“升值”与“贬值”两种情形。
【改译】因此，某种货币升值时不得高于上限定点， 贬值时不得低于下限定点。这两个定点就称作为干 预点——币值波动的上下限。
【原译】普通货船：一种设计用来或单独或联合 或平行地装载诸如包裹、纸板箱、箱子、板条箱 和圆桶等散装货物的货船。

在正式的经贸英语文体中，作者常采用词语叠用法， 这里needs and wants实际上就是指的人的各种 “需求”，而不必加“欲望”两字。

【译文】合资公司的所有商业行为都应该遵守中国 的法律、法规。

• 用词准确
正因为合同具有法律效用 ,合同双方都必 须严格按照 合同的约定 ,全面履行自己的义务 , 这就需要合同的 文字斟词酌句 ,以求准确无误 , 简约通顺。经贸英语 的词汇一般选用那些词义 相对单一而稳定的词来代 替那些词义灵活而丰 富的词 ,特别是短语动词。
经贸行业内约定俗成的说法，也就是我们所说的“行 话”，也就是我们平时所说的业务英语。如knocking copy 为一广告学用语，指“攻击性广告字眼”，译成 其他的表达就是不地道，不是行话。
例1：A particular average is an insurance loss that affects specific interests only. A general average is an insurance loss that affects all cargo interests on board the vessel as well as the ship herself.
【改译】单独海损指仅涉及某项具体财物的保险损失。共同 海损，指涉及船上所有货物和船本身的保险损失。
例2：general cargo vessel : A vessel designed to handle break bulk cargo such as bags , cartons , cases , crates and drums , either individually or in unitized or palletized loads.
