Background Information
Environmental protection is a practice of protecting the natural environment on individual, organizational or governmental levels, for the benefit of both the natural environment and humans. Due to the pressures of population and technology, the biophysical environment is being degraded, sometimes permanently. This has been recognized, and governments have begun placing restraints on activities that cause environmental degradation. Since the 1960s, activity of environmental movements has created awareness of the various environmental issues. There is no agreement on the extent of the environmental impact of human activity, and protection measures are occasionally criticized.
3.Oil giant,Shell, has come under a huge amount of fire lately for using their sponsorship of Britain’s most prestigious wildlife photography exhibition to “greenwash” their environmental credentials. The government has come under fire for its decision to close the mines.

Transportation - Pedestrians Priority
Mr. Zhang, a Chinese student studying at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore two years ago never forgets what he came across in that country. One day after two hours of aerobic exercises, he went back to his flat on foot, dog-tired. Suddenly he bumped into someone, who apologized and walked on. Not long after, he knocked into someone else, who also made an apology, then went on. He felt a little strange. As he was pondering over the matter, it was time to cross the road. He looked to the left before starting to cross. Seeing no care ahead, he began walking across. As he was stepping off the side walk, he heard a car screeching to a sudden halt. He felt greatly surprised and scared. A man came out of the car and walked towards him. As he was about to apologize to the man, Mr. Zhang saw the man was murmuring some apology. He looked around and saw no one else. Then he realized that the man was apologizing to him. “I’m terribly sorry, I haven’t scared you, have I?” he heard a voice saying. “No, thanks, as a matter of fact, it’s my fault. I haven’t been here very long. I haven’t got used to the traffic here. Sorry. I’m OK. Thank you.” “Are you sure? Then take care. Good afternoon.” The man got into his care and drove away. Mr. Zhang couldn’t help smiling to himself, “How very strange!” The next day, Mr. Zhang and his Singaporean friend were waiting at an intersection. As the traffic light had just turned red, when in a wink he saw someone walking on the zebra crossing towards them. Mr. Zhang looked lost, “How can he cross now?” His friend burst into laughter. “Well, you see we’ve got a pedestrian crossing at every crossroad. If the light shows a red man and you’ve something urgent to do, you can press the button on the pole to change it to a green man. And then you can cross.”
