Ladies and Gentlemen，
Good afternoon. It is my honor to stand here and give my speech. My speech is Caring for the Environment.
As we all know, we have only one earth. Because of the beautiful earth, we have lived happily for millions of years. There is no doubt that the environment is important to our human beings. However, along with the rapid development of the world come a lot of problems.
What is threatening the earth? The answers are various, such as air pollution, water pollution, overpopulation and so on. We all know that water plays an important role in our life but many regions are in great need of water. As is reported in the newspaper, ChongQin is now fighting against spring droughts. Unclean air also makes us suffer from many serious diseases, not only in rich countries, but also in developing countries. In short, by developing the society, we have destroyed the land, the river and the air so we have to face more floods, droughts and all kinds of disasters. Destroying the environment, we are destroying the earth; destroying the earth, we are destroying ourselves.
If the air and water continue to be polluted, if the population continues to in crease, if we don’t take action to deal with the serious situation, what will the earth be like? We c an’t imagine, but we are sure that there will be less and less land, less and less food, less and less fuel.
So ladies and gentlemen, we can’t wait. Nor can we afford to wait until the day when we find no city, no hotel, and no lecture hall to hold any speech contest in.
It is good to see that nowadays both the governments and the people are becoming more and more conscious/aware of environmental protection and ecological balance. What we need to do now is to put our words into our deeds. And this should start from every and each one of us, and it should start from small instance.For example, after washing the clothes we shall not dump the used water but use it to flash the toilet; we shall not throw any litter onto the ground and we should collect them for recycling such as dead batteries, old newspapers, empty glass, bottles and all the recyclable garbage. Besides, we should use a nylon bag instead of plastic bags.
All in all, we must make the most use of the things around us even though they are rubbish, so that one day people and environment will together produce the most beautiful and peaceful music.
On that day I am sure to be there with my violin to join the world orchestra, to praise the eternal(永久的) harmony between people and environment.
