摘要：语言是反映社会生活的一面镜子，而作为语言最敏感、最活跃因素的词汇，则是观察社会生活变化的一个窗口。
随着我国对外交往的日益频繁，来自英语的外来词（借词）日益增多，特别是在中国进行改革开放的新时期，中外文化的多层次、多渠道的交流为词语的借用提供了多种条件。
正如美国著名的语言学家萨丕尔所言：“一种语言对另一种语言最简单的影响是词的‘借贷’。
只要有文化借贷，就可能把有关的词也借过来。
”因此，我们可以从借词中窥见文化交流的方方面面，并通过词语借用方式来发掘沉积在一个民族心理结构中的深层内蕴。
本论文分析了英语这门语言的发展史，包括外来词以何种方式引入到英语中，以及英语外来词的影响力和分类。

英语外来词元素分析来源：英语毕业论文 /由于历史文化及英语本身所具有的特点,英语词汇从古至今从其他语言借用了大量的词汇及构词成分,如果仅从这一点看,把英语称作一门世界语一点不为过。
英语外来词及构词成分一方面极大地丰富了英语词汇数量及其表现能力,另一方面也增加了学习英语的难度,因为这些外来词不仅数量大,来源庞杂,而且在词的音、形方面的同化程度不一,词义方面也与英语本土词有差异。
一、英语外来词的地位问题虽然英语外来词的来源庞杂,但根据外来词的数量,重要性及语谱所示的语言亲疏关系,基本可对英语词汇中的外来词作一地位分类。
第一类外来词对英语影响最大,地位最高,最重要。
第二类次之;第三类数量小,影响不大。
第一类外来词:拉丁语词、希腊语词、法语词、斯堪地那维亚语词。
第二类外来词:除第一类外来词语言之外的印欧语系西支语言词汇,如意大利语词、荷兰语词、德语词、凯尔特语词、西班牙语词、葡萄牙语词等。
第三类外来词:印欧语系东支语言及世界各地语言词汇。
如俄语词、捷克语词、阿拉伯语词、印度语词、日语词、汉语词、印第安土著语词等。
第一类外来词的数量最大,约占所有英语外来词的80%以上。
第一类外来词有许多词都现已成为英语的基本词汇,词的音、形方面同化程度很高,一般人已无法辨认其外来词身份。
它们和英语词汇已经是水乳交融,不可分离。
在语言亲疏方面,第一类外来词语言和英语同属印欧语系西支,斯堪地纳维语言和英语同属印欧语系西支的日耳曼语族。
所以从总体看,第一类外来词语言和英语在语言亲疏关系上比较近,这符合关系越亲,影响越大的基本规律。
第二类外来词语言虽和英语同属印欧语系西支,特别是德语、荷兰语和英语同属日耳曼语族,但由于历史、地理、文化等方面的原因,这些外来词在数量上不如第一类外来词影响比之小。
第三类外来词由于在语言亲疏方面关系较为疏远,如俄语、捷克语等属于印欧语系东支,或根本没有亲属关系,如汉语、日语,汉语属汉藏语系,日语亲属关系不明,因此这些语言的外来词在英语词汇中的数量较小,对英语词汇的影响也不大。

等等, 它们从一个侧面反映了法国社会的发展。
拉丁词首先是中古时期通过法语进入英语的,它们主要涉及医学、法律、神学、科学、和文学等方面, 尤其是在文艺复兴时期, 拉丁语和希腊语成为当时的学者撰写论文的主要语言。
在这一时期进入英语的拉丁语很多, 大部分是学术词汇, 书卷气较浓, 研究字词起源的词源学etymology这一词, 就与外来语素有着关系: etymology相应的词根是希腊文中的etymon, 意为“真正或原始的含义”,希腊语中的字尾- logia意为“科学或研究”,所以etymology指一门关于字词真正或原始含义的科学或研究。
由此可见, 英语在其形成的过程中, 引进了大量的外来语和外来语素, 从而大大丰富了其表现力。
