On Infiltration of Escapism----A Brief Comment on The Truman ShowAbstract:The Truman Show1deserves spectacular appreciation for its unique approach—intercutting shots between program of Truman and "real life" footage of the director and spectators. The specialty of presentation sufficiently lays out Escapism in Post-Modernism layer by layer. Followed a brief introduction about the intercutting approach in this movies and Escapism, this paper concentrates on the cause, manifestation and influence of Escapism from the shifting angles of view: Truman, director and spectators. Then it draws a summarization that Escapism has overall infiltrated into human’s life.Key words: The Truman Show, Escapism, shifting angles of view, intercutting,Post-ModernismThe Truman Show, as a typical milestone of the movie industry, puts other traditional genres in the shadow by intercutting the real-time documentary between program of Truman and "real life" of the spectators and director. Firstly, the movie chiefly centralizes on the Truman Burban k’s angle of view. The protagonist, whose entire life is broadcasted in a hugely popular 24-hour-a-day TV series, is gradually aware that his existence is captured by concealed cameras and tries his best to get away from the authoritative domination. Secondly, the movie alternately intercuts the shot to the angle of view of spectators, who are keeping a watchful eye on Truman’s every particular gesture and behavior for escaping from the perceived unpleasant aspects of daily life. Thirdly, the movie shifts the scene to director’s angle of view. It reveals that his motivation of creating the cheerful community of Seahaven(a materialization of “paradise”) is to run away from the hypocrisy and complexity of the world outside2. In short, whatever angle of view the movie sets out, it gives embodiment of Escapism all the time and all the way.As for Escapism3, it is a mental diversion or tendency to seek distraction and relief from banal reality in the era of Post-Modernism4. Although different reference books provide different illustrations5, several characteristics are endorsed. For one thing,Escapism is regarded as an inherent expression of Post-Modernism, for urbanization, industrialization and technological existences have removed people from their biologically normal natures and the rigors of daily life. For another thing, it is unilateral to assert that escapism carries an extreme and negative connotation, suggesting escapists are depraved or sorrowful. In fact, escapism also indicates optimistic significance for positive escapists with an inability or unwillingness to connect with the world meaningfully.Related with this movie, three kinds of Escapism, namely, Truman’s positive Escapism, director’s extreme Escapism and spectators’ neg ative Escapism have been infiltrating into human’s life. The cause, manifestation and influence of will be analyzed in detail. From Truman’s angle of view, Escapism is endowed with the property of positiveness and has done a great favor to obtain freedom. First of all, his Escapism originates from his consciousness of being controlled and the conspiracies of life. As we know, he has grown up and lived in a fake town getting along with actors. The town is enclosed in a giant dome with high-tech simulations of sun and sky, in which the rain and wind are productions of the special effects. In the beginning, he knows nothing that the rest of humanity watches him in a 24-hour-a-day reality programming. Fortunately, he gradually figures out that his surroundings are full of staged scenes and events. Hence, His intention to escape is put into practice as an adequate dynamic and driving force to convert the bound situation and obtain the precious freedom. Above all, his positive Escapism provides the ample motivation to flee the fake and hold the authentic life in his arms. It is his positive Escapism that makes him come up against both his own fears of water and the obstacles put in his way by the producer-director who has made billions of traps in a stage set and playing a God role in his life. From director’s angle of view,Christof’s extreme Escapism has buried his humanity and conscience, which seed in his collapse in essence. In the beginning, his Escapism stems from his despair towards degenerate modern society. today's affluent societies are in danger of becoming rotten and hypocritical environments under theimpact of urbanization, industrialization and technological existences etc. In the movie, Christof shows his hopelessness towards reality several times. Therefore, his Escapism is put into effect as a passageway to reject and isolate from the reality, As we can say, he chooses an extreme way to create the lifelike simulations and story lines from the high-tech facsimile of a sun that benevolently beams down on Truman to the mock sincerity of the actors who Truman mistakenly believes is his family and friend. All that he has done embodies his abnormal and freak Escapism from reality. In sum up,Christof’s extreme Escapism leads to his deformity of personality and final breakdown. From spectators’ angle of view,it is the negative Escapism that gives rise to their crazed behavior of being addictive in peeping Truman’s life immorally. Firstly, spectators’negative Escapism derivates from their desires of getting out of the unpleasant sufferings pessimistically. As we can observe, although the fans may live very normal lives—having children, relationships and regular jobs, they spend their regular time escaping into an idealized world and lose their own mind in the made-up show. As Truman’s fate rises and falls, the spectators’emotion fluctuates fiercely. They are devoted enough to throw themselves into the series and treat themselves as actors. Consequently, spectators who get excessively involved as fans of Truman show are pursuing an unhealthy level of escapism. The negative Escapism masquerades as a better anesthesia than exploring the hard truths of this world. As a result, negative Escapism leads to symptoms of mental illness such as dependence on media and peeping. In brief, after analyzing the brilliantly-conceived satire, we can easily draw the conclusion that the intercutting shots between program of Truman and "real life" of the director and spectators fully demonstrates Escapism has overall infiltrated into human’s life. Truman certifies positive Escapism can play a effective role in fulfilling dream. D irector’s Escapism makes him run away from the absurdity extremely. proper S pectators’ Escapism leads them to turn down to engage in the true world negatively.Notes:1. The Truman Show is a 1998 American comedy-drama film directed by Peter Weir and written by Andrew Niccol. The film chronicles the life and evading of Truman Burbank, who discovers he is constrained in a reality-feigned soap opera, televis ing to billions by live transmission.2. As evidence, here are two quotations of Christof’s lines. The one say, “I have given Truman a chance to live a normal life. The world. the place you live in is the sick place. Seahaven is the way the world should be.” The other says, “There's no more truth out there than there is in the world I created for you. Same lies. The same deceit. With The Truman Show, the elastic-faced, loose-limbed dynamo shows he can also be as serious as needed, in the title role of this imaginative tale of an electronic-age guinea pig. Screenwriter Andrew Niccol, whose directing debut, Gattaca, cautioned against the potential tyranny of genetic advances, again finds reasons for paranoia in technological progress, as an innocent named Truman Burbank becomes the unknowing, all-consuming subject of a 24-hour television network. Niccol's unconventional fable is superbly realized by director Peter Weir (Fearless, Dead Poets Society, Witness), who fashions a disorienting visual style to fit the artifice and pent-up anxiety of Truman's world.Niccol and Weir shrewdly immerse the audience in this oddly cheerful environment, without immediate explanations of what's really going on behind its sunny fa‡ade. Truman lives with his wholesome wife Meryl (Laura Linney) in a picture-perfect house in the squeaky-clean island community of Seahaven, where he works for a large insurance firm. His days pass by uneventfully, until a series of incidents shake him out of his complacency: A huge piece of lighting equipment falls out of the sky. A homeless man appears who looks just like Truman's dead father. Strange radio transmissions, like stage directions, come out of his car radio. For the first time, Truman begins to suspect that something is rotten in Seahaven.Nearly halfway through the film, we learn the truth: Since birth, Truman has been watched by a phalanx of hidden cameras, his every waking move transmitted to an increasingly addicted, international television audience. Seahaven is actually the world's largest studio set; the sky, the ocean, the stars and the sunsets are fakes, and the weather is controlled by outside forces. What's more, everyone Truman encounters in his daily routine is an actor-even his wife and his best friend Marlon (Noah Emmerich) are on the payroll. This enormous charade is the handiwork of Christof (Ed Harris), a megalomaniacal conceptual artist who sees nothing wrong with the mass-appeal social experiment he's concocted.Christof has kept Truman from puncturing the boundaries of his world by staging a childhood boating accident in which the boy's father apparently drowned; Truman has been deathly afraid of the water ever since. The other key incident in Truman's life was unplanned-a budding romantic affair with a 'college student' who tried to spill the secret of Seahaven, but was suddenly sent away to the island of Fiji (or so Truman believes). The Truman Show begins just before this fantasy world begins to crumble, following a long and profitable run for Christof and his network backers. Niccol cannily maintains our involvement throughout, first by keeping the action shrouded in mystery, then by giving us a strong rooting interest in Truman's poignant quest for identity and freedom. It's an ideal role for Carrey: Truman's freakish situation offers him several dramatically valid opportunities to cut loose in the patented Carrey fashion, while maintaining the essential humanity of this socially deprived Everyman. In career terms, the part of Truman Burbank is an important turning point for this gifted comedian. The Truman Show strains credibility, however, in its cynical view of a world that embraces what is, after all, a rather cruel and disturbing experiment. Granted, the daily spectacle of audiences cheering brawls and fistfights on 'The Jerry Springer Show' proves we haven't come far from the Roman Coliseum era, and the public's salacious interest in scandals ranging from O.J. to JonBenet Ramsey reveals a whopping insensitivity to personal tragedy. But The Truman Show, despite its attempt to put an upbeat final-act spin on its hero's struggle, takes it as a given that the world would look in on Truman's unwitting imprisonment without much more than a few scattered protests. This one important caveat aside, Weir and Niccol have come up with a bracingly original cinematic experience, an eerie but entertaining vision of one man's struggle against a high-tech Big Brother he doesn't even know exists. Dennis Gassner's hermetically sealed production design and Peter Biziou's resourceful cinematography make a perfect fit with Weir's lively, lyrical directing style. It may be Jim Carrey's show, but he shares the bill with some equally daring high-wire walkers.楚门的世界 The Truman Show 英文影评review by ROGER EBERT2008-03-14 23:12:33 来源:Internet 浏览次数:1277 文字大小:【大】【中】【小】简介:``The Truman Show'' is founded on an enormous secret that all of the studio's advertising has been determined to reveal. I didn't know the secret when I saw the film, and was able to enjoy the little doubts and wonderings that the filmmakers so carefully planted. If by some good chance you do not know the secret, read no further. Those fortunate audience members (I trust they have all left the room?) will be able to appreciate the meticulous way director Peter Weir and writer Andrew Niccol have constructed a jigsaw plot around their central character, who doesn't suspect that he's living his entire life on live television. Yes, he lives in an improbably ideal world, but I fell for that: I assumed the movie was taking a sitcom view of life, in which neighbors greet each other over white picket fences, and Ozzie and Harriet are real people.Actually, it's Seaside, a planned community on the Gulf Coast near Tampa. Called Seahaven in the movie, it looks like a nice place to live. Certainly Truman Burbank (Jim Carrey) doesn't know anything else. You accept the world you're given, the filmmakers suggest; more thoughtful viewers will get the buried message, which is that we accept almost everything in our lives without examining it very closely. When was the last time you reflected on how really odd a tree looks? Truman works as a sales executive at an insurance company, is happily married to Meryl (Laura Linney), and doesn't find it suspicious that she describes household products in the language of TV commercials. He is happy, in a way, but an uneasiness gnaws away at him. Something is missing, and he thinks perhaps he might find it in Fiji, where Lauren (Natascha McElhone), the only woman he really loved, allegedly has moved with her family. Why did she leave so quickly? Perhaps because she was not a safe bet for Truman's world: The actress who played her (named Sylvia) developed real feeling and pity for Truman, and felt he should know the truth about his existence. Meryl, on the other hand, is a reliable pro (which raises the question, unanswered, of their sex life).Truman's world is controlled by a TV producer named Christof (Ed Harris), whose control room is high in the artificial dome that provides the sky and horizon of Seahaven. He discusses his programming on talk shows, anddismisses the protests of those (including Sylvia) who believe Truman is the victim of a cruel deception. Meanwhile, the whole world watches Truman's every move, and some viewers even leave the TV on all night, as he sleeps. The trajectory of the screenplay is more or less inevitable: Truman must gradually realize the truth of his environment, and try to escape from it. It's clever the way he's kept on his island by implanted traumas about travel and water. As the story unfolds, however, we're not simply expected to follow it: We're invited to think about the implications. About a world in which modern communications make celebrity possible, and inhuman.Until fairly recently, the only way you could become really famous was to be royalty, or a writer, actor, preacher or politician--and even then, most people had knowledge of you only through words or printed pictures.Television, with its insatiable hunger for material, has made celebrities into ``content,'' devouring their lives and secrets. If you think ``The Truman Show'' is an exaggeration, reflect that Princess Diana lived under similar conditions from the day she became engaged to Charles.Carrey is a surprisingly good choice to play Truman. We catch glimpses of his manic comic persona, just to make us comfortable with his presence in the character, but this is a well-planned performance; Carrey is on the right note as a guy raised to be liked and likable, who decides his life requires more risk and hardship. Like the angels in ``City of Angels,'' he'd like to take his chances.Ed Harris also finds the right notes as Christof, the TV svengali. He uses the technospeak by which we distance ourselves from the real meanings of our words. (If TV producers ever spoke frankly about what they were really doing, they'd come across like Bulworth.) For Harris, the demands of the show take precedence over any other values, and if you think that's an exaggeration, tell it to the TV news people who broadcast that Los Angeles suicide.I enjoyed ``The Truman Show'' on its levels of comedy and drama; I liked Truman in the same way I liked Forrest Gump--because he was a good man, honest, and easy to sympathize with. But the underlying ideas made the movie more than just entertainment. Like ``Gattaca,'' the previous film written by Niccol, it brings into focus the new values that technology is forcing on humanity.Because we can engineer genetics, because we can telecast real lives--of course we must, right? But are these good things to do? The irony is, the people who will finally answer that question will be the very ones produced by the process.。

楚门的世界英语影评

楚门的世界英语影评篇一:楚门的世界英语影评“In case I don’t see you, good afternoon, good evening and good night!”The Truman Show describes a story in which the persons and events portrayed are fictitious. Born in a photo studio, Truman, as a protagonist in the film, is spied on all the time by thousands of needle camera tubes. Everyone in his life, including his parents, wife and friends, is a performer. Even the events happened are arranged by design. But true will come to light soon or later. After finding this hoax, he succeeded in obtaining the freedom, despite setbacks. Two words constantly swirled in my mind after appreciating, privacy and morality. Privacy, the fundamental right, however, disappears entirely. The director, as well as other performers, deprives Truman’s right of freedom. In the meantime, the phenomenon of the moral decline is also satirized in the film which is now a big problem in the society. Luckily, even in such backgrounds,Truman, without despair and surrender, is still full of hope. The world may be full of cheating, however, we never lack friends with a warm heart. And not only does Truman believe it, I do as well.篇二:楚门的世界英文观后感I feel deeply after I watch Truman show. It makes me think about our life and media Truman is a leading role in his own world unconsciously. He lives in that peaceful world out of willingness. Do the creature that others pay attention to. His own life is control by director. Life to him is real but fake.Truman’s life is completely open to the mass. People knew everything he does, such as how he was born, went to school, got a job,got married and so on. They are witness of Truman’s life .Everyone live together with him are all performers. Everything they do is in the director’s arrangement. His wife, who is claimed herself a doctor, is not a doctor at all. His father, who was died in a storm, is still alive. All performers are supposed to be cheat. Truman’s life is absolutely a vast lie. But when you know your life is rally a lie, do you have to courage to expose it? Will you choose to give up your peaceful life under control ratherthan to be the leading role of your show? Not everyone has the courage to go out. May be you will say: “It is easy to go out.” But we can’t understand, predict and control the outside world, can you?Sometimes I wonder if I also live in that fake world. Am I the real leading role of my Truman Show? I don’t know. If I live in this situation, I will be angry and want to escape from this huge prison. I will feel disrespect and boring because in my mind no one has the right to arrange my life. No one can control it including me. My life is supposed to be an adventure. Nobody knows what is going to happen. If it is like a soap opera as Trumann’s, it will be meaningless. Nobody wants to be a victim of media. But I have to admit, media is powerful, we can’t live without it and we have to suffer from it, especially stars.Nowadays media is full of our daily life. We surf the internet to look up news whenever we want. We like to watch movies, news, soap operas, talk shows or other television programs in our leisure time. Surfing the internet to know anything we want to know. We always talk with our classmates about everything happened around us, such as new movies on show, new songs, the scandal about startsand so on. Public figures seems don’t have the right to keep privacy. They are beneficiaries of media, but also victims. What can we do to avoid us suffer from media, or to avoid being violated and misleading? I think we should not rely on media everywhere and anytime. Sometimes we should have our own judgments rather than follow those so called experts. We had better more focus on our daily life not the famous person’s. We had better not spending to much time on watching TV and try to do something meaningful by watching TV. We should make full use of media rather than rely on it.篇三:《楚门的世界》英文影评My thought about TrumanAll the people can know about Truman, such as his life. For 10,909 days, it has been on the air, using more than 5000 cameras to show every moment in every day of the life of him. But unfortunately, it is he that didn’t know. Around the world, everyday there were millions of people watching his life which had already been set. I thought it may be terribly sorrowful of him to accept such a truth. Thus he got mad, and nothing can hold back his heart forfreedom. We know his name is Truman, which stands for truth. But his life is full of one told him that until he finally got director said, the life in the island is the truth. Truman used his action to prove it a lie, a total lie. Freedom is the thing that exceeds everything in the world, nothing can be in place of it. Of course, if he chose to live in the island, he can be original pop star, he can get many things comfortably. Yet as a bird, we choose to fly in the sky. As a man, we also need to our own sky. The movie might tell us this moral. Although Truman was born to be a man losing freedom, he was still a man. His option is himself, not making fun of others. The ending of movie, audiences were touched by his perseverance, and then switch the TV channel. It’s so ironical about their behaviors. However, the society is just this look. So what we should do is to pursue our own bliss. If Truman gave up himself, the god will also abandon him. We are what we do, and we need our freedom and perseverance.《楚门的世界英语影评》。

The Truman show is one of my favorite movies. Truman in English means -- real people -- , very ironic name and the name of the leading role, I think it may be the director wanted to black humor to express the theme of the movie. The names of the characters in the movie are very meaningful, for example, the TV show director s name Christof, the word comes from Greek and has the meaning of Creator. And Christof relationship with trumen is Christ of / True manTruman Burbank has been living on the Seahaven island for 30 years since he was born. 楚门的世界(The Trumen Show ) 英文版观后感

The movie is about Truman had been placed in the studio, his growth environment is completely arranged, his every act and every move was being watched. Truman later found out about this, therefore he chose to leave the studio. At the beginning of this movie was so asleep, but the later plots I was moved by this movie. After watching this film, I found it is similar with my life.Since I was child until high school, and I almost liked Truman. The show's director of Truman Show just like God, created a miniature world for Truman. I look back my previous twenty years, almost all arranged by my parents, what clothes I should buy, which school I should attend, what type friends I should make, I think may be in the future I will marry with a man whose I doesn't like. I found I like Truman's life, has been living in the control of others. And ultimately like Truman, I walked out of the parental control. I againsted my parents will, choosing a university far from my hometown. But my life is reality, it has become a possible world that may Truman left that theworld. Long time under the arrangement of my parents, I have lost the independent thinking and judgment ability, so the reality gave me a painful lesson. I noticed that the words in that film director has said: "listen to me, Truman. There's no more truth out there than there is i n the world I created for you. Same lies. The same deceit. But in my world, you have nothing to fear. " At that moment, I seem saw the life I should have. There is no denying that I felt a little regret. May be parent's arrangement is right that I was not supposed to against them. I wanted to go back to the road which should be plain sailing. But at the same time, I am also soberly aware of-- this is life. I walk out of the perfect world, and it is high time to work up the nerve to struggle. I feel suffering and also feel lucky, learned to tumble also learned to climb up. I think that's what the movie wants to say: get out of shackles, brave pursuit. In the movie, this lens appears at least three time: director Christof across the screen touch Truman? The presence of so many times, and its meaning is about the father's love for son. I'm opposed to this opinion, how preposterous that the father put his son's life in public's eyes. "Touch" is more like a kind of appreciation that director to his "masterpiece". The movie, metaphorically, that our society is not too different from the one depicted in it- that we are both the victim and the villain of this perversive and pervasive situation. The director Christof is a villain in this movie, but I more appreciate this sentence: "If he(Truman) more than a vague ambition, if he was determined, to discover the truth, there's no way we could prevent him." That is we should struggle for our life, and fortunately, Truman escaped his control and lived for himself. In the movie, the audience willingly exploits Truman's life for the sake of entertainment and excitement. It's a illness social, they put Truman's life into screen, and deprivation his freedom, privacy, and dignity, but none of guilty. I remember clearly, after Truman escapes the virtual world, the guards said "what else is on?Let's see what else is on..." In their opinions, Truman's life is only a show for their entertainment, in that respect, whether your life legendary or ordinary, needn't to attention others eyes.As the audiences of Truman show, they are Peeping Tom in a way, and it the same as us which in front of the movie screen. In daily life, we often not only just focusing on the surface of things, but also paying more attention to the parties private action, so we have what difference with the audiences in the movies? We are not only concerned about the star's performance in show, but also follow the trend of amplification comment on their appearance in private online. To think about it, although we live in contemporary society, we just like the audiences in the movies, all our happy or angry, sad or joyous are controlled by the director.I dare to say that The Truman Show is the most wonderful film I've been watched. So that every time I watch the blue sky, I would suspect whether it true or not. Reading Hemingway's novel The Old Man and The Sea, I always feel sad that whenever I read the old man takes difficult hardship, last only get a fish skeleton. If I write this novel, I must want to let the old man win glory. Later I found that this was the reason why I couldn't become Hemingway. If the old man really brought the ship of harvest, let everyone sit up and take notice, then this story is only the ordinary comedy story, it can't become a classic, also lost the original shock of spiritual power. Individual is small in front of fate, is fragile. The old man can't avoid aging and death, Truman can't avoid Christof's man-made storm waves, humans also can't hide the fate. However, the big fish is almost only skeleton, the old man still fights with the shark, and Truman almost overturned drowned by the sea, he still refused to return. This is not to break the shackles of fate, but knowing you can't break the shackles of fate, still taking up arms. This is the nobility of the human spirit.Life there are all kinds of frustration and coincidence, there are always behind the stage. I appreciate Truman's optimistic and elegant. " Good morning, and in case I don't see you, good afternoon, good evening and good night."。

With the plot spreading, Truman gradually realizes that there is something wrong with his life; It seems that everybody and everything is focused on him. Leading by his dream, he managed to get out; leaving the world that was created for him and went to that unknown outside, dark and dangerous.Freedom is an eternal topic in western movies and is also very important for all of us. How can a people live without freedom and privacy I see that Truman lives in such an amazing environment that everybody in the world can see him and thereis no privacy for him at all. But after he finds that he is living in a fictitious world, he makes up his mind to leave the studio to live a life that belongs to him. To get the girl he loves and his freedom back, he overcomes his psychological barrier and fights with the storms and lightening made by the chief conductor of the movie---the Truman Show. Finally, Truman makes it and get out of the fictitious world although he knowsthat there maybe many unknown obstacles waiting for him. Thisis the power of freedom and love.Another thing I’d like to mention is that when reporters ask why Truman has never come close to discovering the true nature of his world until now, and then the answer is that we accept the reality of the world with which we are presented. I was shocked when I heard this. In our daily life, we get used to what is happening around us so we never ask why this just happens. Although we live our lives everyday, life itself is the thing easiest forgotten by us. If we pay more attention to our life, we may find that there are so many things for us to do to enhance our life. We are usually getting numb with time going by. So be curious about the things happened in our life and you may find that life is interesting and happy.Cherishing your life and enjoying your life, you can make a big difference.。

楚门英文影评作文英文:The Truman Show is a thought-provoking film that explores the concept of reality and the power of media. The movie follows the life of Truman Burbank, a man who has unknowingly been living in a television show his entire life. As Truman begins to question his reality, he embarks on a journey to discover the truth about his life and the world around him.One of the most interesting themes in the movie is the idea of control. Truman's life is completely controlled by the show's creator, Christof. He controls everything from the weather to the people in Truman's life. This raises the question of how much control we have over our own lives and how much is predetermined by external forces.Another theme is the power of media. The show's audience is obsessed with Truman's life and watches hisevery move. This reflects our own society's obsession with reality TV and the constant need for entertainment. The film also shows how media can manipulate and shape our perceptions of reality.Overall, The Truman Show is a thought-provoking and entertaining film that raises important questions about reality, control, and the power of media.中文:《楚门的世界》是一部发人深省的电影,探讨了现实和媒体的力量。

楚门的世界英⽂影评楚门的世界英⽂影评 楚门的'世界——The Trueman Show As the movie started,Trueman's life was peaceful and warm, filled with happyness,of which we may be envious.Everything went on wheels, such as the first footstep, the first time to go to school, the first kiss and the first marriage. This life should be pretty comfortable, and it's just the one which most people want. However, everyone in the movie knew Trueman in detail. They watched him raised up.Outside the island ,people watched it just like a interesting movie focus on one's privacy. On the island, people acted all the roles in society, they did the same thing with sham day after day ,for instance, that twins seems like good oldies, said so much to pleasure Trueman, but they didn't really want to help him, that is,didn't want to buy any insurance. So,they were politely ,say hello to him "Good morning, good afternoon, good evening and goodnight!" His mother, wife ,even the best friend pretended to encourage and understand him.what's a pity! Where are your spirit and soul? How can a person live without freedom and ideality? Trueman found that his father still alive ,and he still love the first girl deeply in his heart. Finally,he wanted to go Fiji and left this "lucky homeland".He went to several agencies of transporting, while the ships were gone or destroyed, the airport had no ticket. Then he drove his own car,but the road was round and round. When he found one way to escape, amazing that, the police knew him and brought him home.He realize he must do it all by himself. The faith of love and freedom gave him the brave heart to defeat the stormy sea. At the end,Christopher try to persuade him back to the island,Trueman made his choice,"In case I don't see you, good afternoon goodevening and goodnight" There may be more dangerous ,sham and cheat out of the island ,but all of this come from nature and society not from the people stared him all the day. We learn from Trueman that we should have a brave heart to pursuit the thing which in our inner heart instead of setting for the surface of our life! 《楚门的世界》英⽂影评 Unusually intelligent Jim Carrey movie - a provocative and prescient media satire. Puts Big Brother and the current spate of docu-soaps firmly into perspective Truman Burbank (Carrey) is a happily married insurance salesman living a normal life in a small American town so perfect that he has never felt the need or desire to leave it. He has a loving wife (Linney), and a loyal best buddy (Emmerich). Life is good until one morning a stage light drops from the skies and shatters on the ground perilously close to him. It is the trigger that sets him questioning everything around him. What is behind the facades of the buildings he has never entered? Why do people seem to be travelling around him in a perfectly synchronized loop? What is going on outsidehis home-town? Truman is, it turns out, the unwitting star of a top-rated 24-hour-a-day TV docu-soap. Under the careful critical scrutiny to which it has been subjected, the plot turns out not to be watertight. This is to miss the point of what is a hilarious and breathtakingly conceived satire which also allows Carrey to edge away from broad comedy. The Truman Show is also oddly moving and has, as you would expect from a Weir film, a pronounced metaphysical slant with Ed Harris playing the show"s archly named producer/creator Christof. Verdict One of the cinematic highlights of the 1990s, The Truman Show is up there with Weir"s very best work. 楚门的世界英⽂观后感 When I first saw 'The Truman Show' I came out of the theatre amazed. This is your first clue that you are watching something different from your normal Jim Carrey movie. I love the dialogue, camera shot, performances, direction, music, and running time of this movie. There is nothing I would do to change it. I came away from 'The Truman Show' feeling inspired which is the goal of good filmmaking Jim Carrey was outstanding as Truman, underplaying him, not making him too comic or too dramatic, but giving true sincerity when asked. He deserved an Oscar nomination. Ed Harris has always been a good actor, but in this movie he's a great actor. He plays Christof with such arrogance and bullheadedness that you don't know whether he's helping or destroying Truman. He and the director, Peter Weir, deserved their Oscar nods. Weir, who directed the great 'Witness', uses different camera angles to make you feel like you're actually watching 'The Truman Show' and not a movie. He ends it before you get tired of the concept and helped Carrey and Harris give immaculate performances. Andrew Niccol script is a real star in the movie too because of it's inventiveness and ingenuity. Overall, 'The Truman Show' is what I like to call a true American classic.。

After-movie Essay
No scripts, no cue cards. This is the most distinctive feature in the film of the Truman Show which is a black comedy. The director of the TV play is a genius, who designs the life of the Truman. In the film, Truman is the protagonist of the TV play , but he doesn’t know his own identity that is an actor. The place he lives is in fact a big studio with hidden cameras everywhere, what he does is a live broadcast. Although almost 30 years has been passed, he fails to realize it. The audience are always watching everything happened in the Truman, without omitting anything. Finally, he struggled with the destiny and stroke his part to the director.
The film satirizes the social problem of focusing on the selfish purpose and human rights abuses. With the economic globalization, mass media are playing a more and more significant role in every corner. However, they use the convenience to infringe people’s privacy to gain their own interests. It is serious and common in our society. For instance, the entertainment reporters attempt to dig out the privacy of the celebrity, boosting its ratings. I strongly think that everyone has the right of privacy no matter he is a public figure or not. Many tragedies originate from the exposures, but these tragedies enrich our topics after lunch. We always put our happiness on others’ suffering. The film told us how to get rid of
the shackles of reality, pursuing our own of the free world and enjoying the fair, reasonable real life.。
