Less than a dozen of her poems were published during her lifetime. In spite of this, she is regarded today as a great poet, perhaps the greatest poet the United States has produced. Along with the Greek poet Sappho, she may be one oi the two greatest women poets who have ever lived.Dickinson was born on December 10, 1830, in a small Massachusetts town called Amherst. Hers was an oid family; her ancestors had come lo the United States 200 years before. Her parents were not really rich, but they were certainly not poor. She had an older brother, Austin, and a younger sister, Lavinia. Her parents seem to have been rather withdrawn people, and the members of the family spent a good deal of time by themselves. She doesn ’t seem to have liked her mother very much. She spoke once of never really having a mother. She was educated at the local Amherst Academy and Mount Holyoke Women ’ s Seminary. Although she was sometimes described as pretty, she never married. In all outward respects, her life appeared to be rather boring. The time and place in which she lived was not a good one for a woman artist to succeed. Women are expected to be obedient to men and to remain in their place at home. Rather than waste her life in the meaningless round of social events that were open to women, she decided at some point to retreat from the world in order to write her poetry. From then on, she spent a great deal oftime in her bedroom writing. In later years when she was standing in front of her bedroom door, she looked at her niece and said,“It ’s just a turn-and freedom, Mary!” It was when she closed the door of her room and turned the key that locked the door that the most important andcreative hours of her life were spent, the hours when she wrote her poetry. She was regarded as a recluse by many of her neighbors, that is,as a person who spent a good deal of time by herself.59.According to the author, who is the greatest woman poet in America?A)Both Sappho and Dickinson C)Sappho B)Emily Dickinson D)Not mentioned60.Women in Emily Dickinson’s time______.A)are regarded as reclusesB) C)are expected to be obedient to men spend most of their time in social eventD)are expected to retreat from the world61.Emily Dickinson's ancestors came to the United States in around.A)1630B)1830C)1730D)193062.Which of the following statement is NOT true?A) B) C)It is quite likely that Emily Dickinson didn't like her mother.Emily Dickinson regarded being locked in her room as“freedom”.She is well-known in her lifetime and is still regarded as a great poet now.D)Her parents seem to have been rather withdrawn people, and they spent a good deal of time with their family members.Section BDirections: Match the Chinese sentences in the left column with the English in the right column, and mark the corresponding letter on the Answer Sheet with a single line through the centre. 63. A) The happiest people don ’t necessarily have the best things; they just make the most ofeverything that comes along their way.

Reading Comprehension(50分)阅读4片,样题提供前三篇Directions: There are 4 passages in this part, each passage is followed by some questions or unfinished statements. For each of them, there are four choices marked A, B, C, and D. You should decide on the best choice and mark the corresponding letter on the Answer Sheet with a single line through the center.Passage OneLearning how to write is like taking a course in publicspeaking. I’d ask whether anyone in class had ever taken such a course. Invariably a few hands would go up.“What did you learn in that course?” I’d ask.“Well, the main thing was learning how to f ace an audience…not to be inhibited (拘谨;抑制)…not to be nervous…”Exactly, when you take a course in public speaking nowadays, you don’t hear much about grammar and vocabulary. Instead, you’re taught how not tobe afraid or embarrassed, how to speak without a prepared script, how to reach out to the live audience before you. Public speaking is a matter of overcoming your longstanding nervous inhibitions. It is the same in writing. The point of the whole thing is to overcome your nervous inhibitions, to break through the invisible barrier that separates you from the person who’ll read what you wrote. You must learn to sit in front of your typewriter or dictating machine and reach out to the person at the other end of the line.Of course, in public speaking, with the audience right in front of you, the problem is easier. You can look at them and talk to them directly. In writing, you’re alone. It needs an effort of your experience or imagination to take hold of that other person and talk to him or her. But tha t effort is necessary or at least it’s necessary until you’ve reached the point when you quite naturally and unconsciously “talk on paper.”4l. The main task of a public speech course is to ________.A. teach spoken-language experienceB. teach how to use gestures to assist speechC. help the learners overcome nervousnessD. teach how to control the volume of the speaker’s voice42. Learning how to write is similar to learning how to speakin publicin that a writer should ___________.A. overcome his or her nervousness in the first placeB. watch his or her grammar and vocabularyC. collect a lot of data before writingD. take hold of a reader and talk to him or her before writing43. In the author’s opinion, _________.A.writing needs more experience and skill than public speakingB.both writing and public speaking require effortC.writing is imaginativeD.public speaking is not so natural as writing44. Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage?A.Not many students feel the need to learn public speaking.B.Training is necessary before you can speak with script.C.In public speaking, the audience are more nervous than the speaker.D.Writing is just like making a public speech on paper.45. This selection is mainly about learning how to _______.A.make a public speechB.talk on paperC.behave properly in public speechD.express strong emotion on paperPassage TwoIn the modern technological world the sea offers many resources to help mankind survive. Resources on land are beginning to grow less. The sea, however, still offers hope to supply many of man’s needs. The riches of the sea yet to be developed by man’stechnology are i mpressive. Oil and gas explorations have existed for nearly thirty years. Valuable amounts of minerals such as iron, nickel and copper and so on exist on the ocean floor, ready to be mined.Fish farming promises to be a good way to produce large quantities of food. The culture of fish and shellfish is an ancient skill practiced in the past mainly by Oriental peoples.Besides oil and gas, the sea may offer new sources of energy. Experts believe that the warm temperature of the ocean can be used in a way similar to the steam in a steamship. Ocean currents and waves offer possible use as a source of energy such as hydroelectric power.Technology is enabling man to explore ever deeper under the sea. The new undersea technology is providing divers with diving suits and undersea chambers that are kept at sea level pressure. The development of strong, newmaterials has made this possible. The technology to harvest the sea continues to improve. By the year 2000, experts believe that the problems to exploit the food, minerals, and energy sources of the sea will be largely solved.46. What is the best title for the passage?A. Needs of ManB. Sources of EnergyC. Sea HarvestD. Sea ExploringTechnology47. According to the author, technology for exploring the sea is important because______.A.man cannot travel farther into spaceB. resources on land arerunning shortC.it’s a l ot of fun diving into the seaD. ancient peopleused to explore the sea48. It can be inferred from the passage that_______.A.man hasn’t completely developed the riches of the seaB.technology for exploring the sea has been solvedC.planting rice in the sea will be made possible in a short timeD.in the near future man can live on the ocean floor50. The word “exploit”in the last paragraph could best be replaced by________.A.evaluateB. developC. gatherD. scatterPassage ThreeYour passport is your official identification as an American citizen. In America, most people never consider obtaining a passport unless they are planning a trip out of the country. InEurope, where travel from one country to another is much more common, almost everyone carries a passport. A passport is the final proof of identity in almost every county in the world. In l979 almost l5 million Americans held passports. Most of these passports were obtained to travel outside the country because, except for a few Western nations, passports are required to enter every country. And if you travel abroad, you must have a valid passport to reenter the country. When traveling abroad, you will need a passport for identification when exchanging dollars for francs or marks or other foreign currency. You may also need your passport to use a credit card, buy an airplane ticket or check into a hotel. As a passport is an official U.S. document, it is valuable as identification in any emergency overseas, such as floods, fires or war. Don’t confuse passports and visas. Whereas a passport is issued by a country to its citizens, a visa is official permission to visit a country granted by the government of that country. For some years, many countries were dropping their visa requirements, but that trend has reversed. Argentina, Brazil, and Venezuela now require visas from U.S. citizens. They may be obtained from the embassy of the country you wish to visit.Passport applications are available at passport agency offices in large cities like Boston, New York, or Chicago. In smaller cities, applications are available at post offices and at federal courts. T o get your first passport, you must submit the application in person, along with a birth certificate and two pictures.5l. Passports are beneficial for___________.A. exchanging currencyB. using a credit cardC. checking into hotelsD. all of the above53. We can conclude from the passage that_________.A. every country requires a visa from a foreign citizenB. not every country requires a visa from a foreign citizenC. only countries like Argentina, Brazil, and Venezuela now requirevisas from U.S. citizensD. passports are obtained at the embassy once you enter a country54. The passage suggests that_________.A. m ost people don’t realize how important passports areB. passports aren’t important once you are in the country you’ve chosento visitC. passports are simple to obtain through the mailD. passports are obtained at the embassy once you enter a country55. What you say is not particularly important, nor necessarily is how long you spend saying it,as long as it’s something.“Nice weather”?or“How are you?”will do.People just love attention, adults and children.Children love attention so much that they will do anything to get some.In fact,if children are not getting enough attention, they would rather be naughty and get told off than be“good”and be ignored. An interesting time in most households with young children is dinnertime—it’s the end of the day, everybody is tired, the house is in a mess and Johnny doesn’t like carrots and is refusing to eat his food.Again, the easy trap to fall into is to start getting cross with Johnny and getting into a big argument about his food.Again,he getting the attention he desires;even if it’s not the best sort of attention,it’s better than nothing. It’s fascinating if you’re able to stand back from the situation and instead focus attention and praise on Johnny’s brother who is eating his food--after all,he’s the one that is doing what you want him to do.After five or ten minutes or so of being ignored and deprived of the attention,it’s amazing how quickly(usually)Johnny sees sense and obeys.I've watched my own children in this situation go from screaming from behind the sofa that they won’t eat their food,to sheepishly crawling to the table saying that maybe they’ll have a little bit,to sitting in their chair wolfing the lot and saying,“Mummy, aren’t I doing good dinner eating?”—all without having one word spoken to them by their parents, who are busily paying attention to their brothers. This fundamental need for attention, and doing whatever it takes to get it,doesn’t disappear when we turn into adults.Sure, there are people who are“real attention seekers”in a loud and extravert(外向的)way and there are the shy, retiring types who don’t want attention in such a“sociable”way. But everybody still wants to be recognized and seen as worthwhile.6.What will children probably do to get parents’attention?A.They will keep quiet for a long time.B.They will ignore their parents.C.They will behave naughtily.3D.They will get cross easily.7.What does the phrase“the easy trap to fall into”in Paragraph2probably mean?A.A set-up situation parents are likely to go into.B.The household work parents can not avoid.C.Some tempting food children love to eat.D.A bad habit children easily develop.8.An effective way to make children behave themselves may be to.A.scold them severelyB.teach them what to doC.give them total freedomD.praise their sisters or brothers9.“real attention seekers”in the last paragraph are probably those who.A.motivate others to learnB.associate with shy typesC.rely on negative attentionD.arouse others’attention openly10.What point does the author make by relating to children’s behavior?A.Children’s upbringing needs parents’constant care.B.Children are usually extravert while adults are sociable.C.Both adults and children need to be seen as worthwhile.D.The motivation of children differs greatly from that of adults.Passage ThreeQuestions11to15are based on the following passage:Named for the dense shade of their thick pines, the Black Hills of South Dakota have for centuries been considered holy by the Lakota Sioux, once the most powerful tribe in the West.Today, because of the passions of a few artists, the land itself has become holy in another way.It took the obsessed sculptor Gutzon Borglum, his son Lincoln, and four hundred workers fourteen years(1927-1941)to complete an artistic arid engineering project so monumental that no one believed it possible:carving and blasting the six-story faces of George Washington,Thomas Jefferson,Teddy Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln out of 4stony Mount Rushmore.A little trivia:Washington’s eyes are11feet wide, and his nose is26feet long. Mr.Lincoln, for his part, sports a mole(痣)that measures16inches across.Just17miles away, the gigantic Crazy Horse Memorial is slowly taking shape. Also carved into granite(花岗岩),this memorial, when completed somewhere around2050,after a century’s labor, will depict(刻画)Native America’s greatest warriors chief on his horse, dwarfing Mount Rushmore at563 feet tall. The horse’s nostril(鼻孔)alone will be large enough to hold a five-room house. From Crazy Horse, head east on the beautiful14-mile Needles Highway, past billion-year-old granite hills,to Sylvan Lake and then north to Spearfish Canyon Scenic Byway, whose landscape you’ll easily recognize as the backdrops used in the film Dances with Wolves.Alternatively, you can park your bags in the pleasant Game Lodge that served as Calvin Coolidge’s Summer White House.Of the historic inn’s seven rooms, you can still book the room the thirtieth president and his wife occupied during the three months in1932.The lodge is one of three found within Custer State Park,whose18-mile Wildlife Loop Road runs through unfenced meadows where herds of1,500buffalo roam.11.The word“sports”in Paragraph2most probably means.A.is famous forB.is characterized byC.is decorated withD.is accompanied by12.Of the four things mentioned in the passage, which one is the largest?A.Washington’s eyes.B.Washington’s nose.C.Lincoln’s mole.D.Crazy Horse’s nose.13.Which of the following projects is still in progress?A.Lincoln face.B.Crazy Horse.C.Summer White House.D.Wildlife Loop Road.14.What is NOT a feature that Mount Rushmore sculpture and Crazy Horse have in common?A.They were very large.B.They were carved out of granC.They were located in the Black Hills.D.They both depicted the Indian tribes.15.Who is the thirtieth president of the US?A.Thomas Jefferson.B.Teddy Roosevelt.C.Abraham Lincoln.D.Calvin Coolidge.5Passage FourQuestions16to20are based on the following passage:Women are more efficient and trustworthy, have a better understanding of their workforce and are more generous with their praise. In short they make the best managers, and if men are to keep up they will have to start learning from their female counterparts,a report claims today. The survey of1,000 male and female middle and senior managers from across the UK is an indictment(谴责)of the ability of men to function as leaders in the modem workplace.A majority of those questioned believed women had a more modem outlook on their profession and were more open--minded and considerate.By way of contrast,a similar number believe male managers are self-centered and more likely to steal credit for work done by others.Management Today magazine, which conducted the research, said that after years of having to adopt a masculine identity and hide their emotions and natural behavior in the workplace, women have become role models for managers. The findings tally with a survey of female bosses carried out in the US.A five-year study of2,500 managers from450firms found that many male bosses were rated by their staff of both sexes to be self-centered and autocratic(独裁的).Women on the other hand leave men in the starting blocks when it comes to teamwork and communicating with staff. In Britain more than61%of those surveyed said men did not make better bosses than women. Female managers use time more effectively, with many of those surveyed commenting that juggling(兼顾的)commitments is a familiar practice for women with a job and a family.Female managers also appear to make good financial sense for penny-pinching companies:most people,of either sex, would rather ask for a rise from a man.16.What is the source of the data mentioned in the passage?A.A magazine.B.A Read the passage carefully. Then answer the questions or complete the statements with no more than10 words. Please write your answers on The Answer Sheet.Paper writing seems like a major obstacle to many students.A paper can hang over your head like a dark cloud that appears to get bigger the longer you postpone starting. But writing papers can be one of the most absorbing ways to learn about a subject in depth. Many students, once they’ve mastered the techniques, find they’d rather write papers as a form of learning than take exams. The techniques of writing a good paper are easy to follow. You should remember two important aspects that lead to success.First, start working early on the paper.Second,if you have a choice, choose a subject that you are interested in,or that you can develop an interest in.Much of your work in college 10involves absorbing knowledge;when it comes to writing papers, you have the opportunity to put down on paper what you’ve learned about a subject, and perhaps your opinions and conclusions on the subject.Writing is an important form of communication. To communicate well you must have something you really want to say.So if you have a choice of topics, choose one that interests you.If it isn’t one that everyone else is writing on,all the better. If you’re not sure about your choice of topic,do a little research to see what’s involved in several topics before you make a final decision.Remember the caution about allowing yourself enough time? Here’s where it comes into play.Take enough time to choose a topic carefully. Are you worried that your ideas are not important enough to express in a paper? Each individual has his or her own ideas to express. If you’re willing to develop and support your opinion,it will be worth reading. How you interpret an idea is just as important as how anyone else interprets it,and perhaps your own ideas can cast new light on some parts of a broad topic.56.The author mentions“a dark cloud”in Paragraph1in order to show that_________________.57.When asked about the better form of learning, many students who have learned how to write a paper would like to instead of taking tests.58.Paper writing will help you absorb knowledge because you can write down_______________.59.What kind of topic should you choose if you have too many topics?60.According to the passage, when will your idea be worth reading?PartⅢTranslation(30marks,30minutes)Section A From Chinese to English(15marks:3marks for each item)Directions:Complete the sentences by translating into English the Chinese given in the brackets. Please write your translation on The Answer Sheet.61.Had I studied educational psychology,(我昨天就知道怎样吸引学生注意力了)。

河南省专升本专业英语真题2015年(总分:150.00,做题时间:90分钟)一、Ⅰ.Vocabulary and Structure(总题数:30,分数:30.00)1.The patient screamed in his sleep last night. He ______ a terrible dream.(分数:1.00)A.must have beenB.must haveC.must beD.must have had √解析:[考点] 情态动词[解析] “must+have+过去分词”结构表示对过去情况的肯定推测,结合句意可知,此处应选must have had。

2.The headmaster really doesn"t know ______ for the students" bad behavior.(分数:1.00)A.who is to blame √B.who is blamedC.who to be blamedD.who is to be blamed解析:[考点] 固定搭配[解析] be to blame(for):应(为……)

这个词组本身就含有被动意义,因此不用“be to be blamed”形式。

3.Though widely-accepted on the Internet, "Duang" is a character which does not even exist in the Chinese dictionary. However, it ______ like wildfire online in China since it appeared.

On average, it is said, visitors spend only _____________________(一半的钱) in a day in Leeds as in London. • 显然本句在拿as…as… 根据比 较结构中的倍数原则,倍数数字放在最开始,接下去有 关于量的as much+n.+as, 因此本句要填入 “half as much money”。
1:Though a skilled worker,
____________________(他被公司解雇了) last week because of the economic crisis .

• 例1:The professor required that ___________(我们交研究报告) by Wednesday .
The author was required to submit an abstract of about 200 words together with his research paper. 1:He gave a pledge to handle the affairs in a friendly manner . 因为在这句话中,出现了考点叠加的现象:第一,give a pledge to do sth (承诺做某事);第二,handle(处理)这个核心动词的用法;第 三,in ...manner(以...

1. I have had great deal of trouble______________________________.(跟得上班上 的其他同学)
例:(为了挣钱供我上学)______________________, mother often takes on more work than is good for her 【考点剖析】对于“为了挣钱供我上学”的表达,我们 可以说To earn money for my education; To earn money for my schooling ; In order to make money to finance my education ; In order to make money to fund my education ; In order to earn money to afford my education等。

1:By contrast, American mothers were more likely _______________________________ (把孩子的成功归因于) natural talent。 1)be likely to do sth ; 2) owe...to /attribute...to (把... 总之,需要填入的部分拼贴在一起就是 “to attribute their children’s success to”。 需要熟练掌握用法 的还有lead to, result in, result from, be to blame for, be responsible for。
The substance does not dissolve in water ___________________________(不管是否加热)。 • 考查重点:从句知识:尤其让步状语从句,注意复习 whether… or…, though, no matter how等表达的用法。
2. I don't mind your_____________(你延期做出决定) the decision as long as it is not too late.
3. In the Chinese household, grandparents and other relatives_____________(起 着不可缺少的作用) in raising children. 4. Mark often____________________________(试图逃脱罚款) whenever he breaks traffic regulations. 5. When I __________________(发现他骗我) I stopped buying thins there and started dealing with another shop. 6. I suggested he ____________________ (使自己适应) his new conditions. 7. What a lovely party! It's worth_________________( 牢记一生 ).
Your losses in trade this year are nothing ______________________(与我的相比)。 相比”考 查词组知识,专升本程度同学应当掌握“compared with”或者“in comparison with”, 但常有考生把 “compare with”与“compare to”(把…
