在不同得历史时期发展起来得教学法,如语法翻译法、直接法、听说法、口语法或情景法等可视为就是英语教学法得理论。

与此同时,英语教学法也应用语言学,心理学,教育学等学科得理论以及与这些学科有关得其她学科得理论,如心理语言学,社会语言学等来研究教与学得内容、教与学得过程、教与学得规律、教与学得技巧与方法等问题。
