Only a handful of players have ever scored more. At his pace, he will probably end up being the all-time leading goal scorer before he retires. How crazy is that?Ovechkin scores goals in the craziest ways too. He isn't just some wimpy sniper who picks corners from the outside. Oh no, Ovi loves to get dirty and bang home rebounds and deflections while battling right in front of the net. He has an absolutely wicked one-timer slapshot too that makes goalies cry. I'm telling you, the ways he can roof the puck or just overpower goalies isincredible. Watching the guy play is so much fun because you never know how he'll score next!Another big reason why I idolize Alex Ovechkin is because of how tough and gritty he is. Hockey is definitely not a sport for wimps or fraidy cats. There is so much hitting and physicality involved. You have to be willing to get crunched into the boards or take a puck to the mouth and just shake it off. Well, Ovi embraces all of that like no other player. He is an absolute machine out on the ice, never afraid to throw his body around or get in someone's face after a cheap shot. You should see some of the crazy injuries and wounds he has played through over his career. Broken bones, deep cuts, you name it - the guy is a beast!I remember watching one game a few years ago where Ovechkin literally got his body split wide open from skating into the boards awkwardly. He had to leave the game and get all stitched up, but then he came right back out on the ice during the same game and scored the winning goal! How awesome is that? He doesn't let anything keep him down.Another example of Ovi's bonkers toughness was in the playoffs one year when an opponent intentionally hip checked him right into the boards away from the play. It was such a dirty and dangerous hit that the guy got suspended for it. But youknow what Ovechkin did? He popped right back up, skated over and got into a crazy fight with the guy who hit him! Oh man, seeing a superstar like Ovi drop the gloves and chuck knuckles made me go absolutely bonkers. I was just in awe of how fearless and competitive he is.Besides being crazy talented and tough as nails, I also really admire how passionate and energetic Ovechkin is. The guy just has so much fun out on the ice. You can tell he absolutely loves playing hockey more than anything. Whenever he scores a big goal, his celebrations are always epic. He'll leap through the air, pump his fists, and scream with the biggest smile on his face. Just pure unbridled joy and enthusiasm. And the way he gets all the fans in the arena pumped up and cheering is so awesome.You've probably seen clips of Ovi's patented goal celebrations where he acts like he's heating up a blazing hot shot or machine gunning the crowd. Those always make me laugh so hard! He does goofy stuff like that to fire up the fans and his teammates. You can really tell he plays hockey with his heart on his sleeve and wants to share his passion for the game with everyone. I just find that sort of genuine energy and emotion to be super cool and inspiring.My favorite Ovechkin moment though has to be from a few years back when the Capitals finally won the Stanley Cup championship after years of playoff heartbreak. During theon-ice celebration after they won the final game, Ovechkin was just absolutely going bonkers in the best way possible. He was leaping around, shirtless and sweaty, just roaring with happiness. At one point he even did a keg stand while chugging some beer! He looked like he was having absolutely the time of his life - the way a little kid would act after winning the grand prize game at a carnival. His joy was just so genuine and contagious. It was amazing to see a superstar at the top of his profession celebrating such an incredible accomplishment with that level of passion and child-like awe. That's the moment that really solidified Ovechkin as my favorite athlete of all time.You can probably tell by now that I am a humongous Alex Ovechkin mega-fan. The guy is just the total package as an athlete and as a human being too. He's a supremely skilled scoring machine and one of the toughest players in the whole league. But he's also filled with so much energy, passion, joy and personality that make him so much fun to watch. I absolutely love Ovechkin's hard-hitting and hard-celebrating style of play. He inspires me to try my hardest, never quit, and just go out and have a blast whenever I get to play hockey or any other sport.
