2011.06 英美文化期末论文任课教师：徐慧芳Cultural differences between Chinese movies and American ones2009级自动化学院刘印章学号3109001618 11组Abstract:Movie is a good way to show the real life and to describe the ideal one,just like the music and the painting.What's more,it is a combination of them.And the different styles of the movies present the different cultural.In this paper, we aim to explore the culture differences between Chinese movies and American ones.Key words: culture difference,China,America,movies1.Story VS ArtA nice movie is made of a wonderful story and artistic creation.Chinese movies are better than the American ones in the story.In other word,there are always a good story in Chinese movie.When making a movie,most of Chinese will take a story into first consideration.Because in Chinese culture,they value the social responsibility.They would like to lead the people to the truth, the good and the beauty,using a whole story.This is to say,although there are not gorgeous effects in the view,you can be also infected by the story filled with the emotion.Take a Chinese movie <Echoes of the rainbow>(《岁月神偷》)for example.I watched it many years ago,but every plot is still fresh in my mind now.Jin Yi's family is poor but full of the unselfish love.His parents work hard for the family without complain and love the children in their ways.And the pure love between Jin Yi and his girlfriend is yearning.Simple but familiar,the story in the movie seems to happen in our life.Compared with Chinese movies,American ones are purely a feast of eyes.The movies of Hollywood are famous as American blockbuster all around the world.What leaves a deep impression to the audience is the gorgeous effects and rich imagination.And making most use of the tricks of computer and photography is important acting skills in Hollywood.In this way the movie shows us a exciting scene.<Transformer> is an extremely wonderful movie.It tells a war between the car robots and the right part have a duty to protect the earth,a planet far away from theirs.But after watching it,and thinking twice,we may find that the story is simple.Kung fu panda is also a simple story,just telling how to a panda who loves kung fu learn it and beat a bad guy finally.This is the attitude of the American toward the film.They value the part of art more than the part of the story. Because their purpose of making movie is hunting for the creation and the art,not the story itself.In this aspect,we can think that the former are movies of story,and the latter are of art.2.Collectivism VS IndividualismChinese movie often publicize the collectivism,containing the benefits and strength of the group,community or country.On the contrary,American movie focus on the individualism.There is a hero can save the world or do something incredible just by himself in this kind of movie,such as <Batman>.As a young boy, Bruce Wayne witnessed in horror that his millionaire parents were slain in front of him--a trauma that leads him to become obsessed with revenge . When fate prevents him from avenging the deaths of his parents, Bruce flees to Asia where he seeks counsel from a dangerous but honorable ninja cult leader known as Ra's al Ghul. When he returns now decaying Gotham City, Bruce finds it has become overrun by organized crime and other dangerous individuals manipulating the system. Meanwhile, there are forces at work trying to remove him from his inherited place as the owner of Wayne Industries.So he began to fight with the crime.Like the batman,there are also <Superman>,<Spider man>,<Iron man>.And another movie <Forrest Gump> is this kind of movie but in other style.Forrest Gump who is unfortunately to be born with a lower IQ and the muscle problem, usually, people always think this kind of person can't be successful in doing anything. But, instead, this unlucky man has achieved lots of incredible success, he is a football star, a war hero, and later a millionaire!Forrest Gump mould incarnation of virtue is honest keeping one's word , conscientiously , brave paying attention to emotioning among film. In the film, Forrest Gump is a very pure image, but Jenny has become the degenerate symbol . And write the great discrepancy originally in this. The fist musical film is the 《DingjunMountain 》 , which was an Beijing Opera. But the development of it just seemed stop there. Now the form of the musical film in China is more modern. The film 《Perhaps Love》 is a success. But there are still differences .

As one of the best musical films, High school musical give our a big feast of American senior life.
Corporation, musical part, friendship, teamwork, spare-time job…..They all make us to try new things and never give up, form them we know to realize our dream is our final goal.
In China ,we can’t work in factories ,but we can help our parents do some housework.I think it is also a good chance for us to get experiences.We can also found a good relationship with our Mom and Dad.Knowing the pressure of the society is important ,but I think we should put the study on the first place.
From these money ,many students not only have the tuition,but also realise their dream of having an own car.
But some student only put their hearts into making money.They almost forget the task of studying.So it also has bad influences. 。”

In America parents give their children pocket money just in need.If they really want it,They can work for them in order to get it.I think it is a good way for the students to know the hardness of getting money.It seems they can get more clever from this.
