What shall I do when making mistakes in leaning English?
In learning a foreign language, we should bear in mind that
it is nothing but natural to make mistakes, though it is a process full of twists and turns.
In learning a foreign language, we are constantly trying to express things beyond our language capacity, leading to a variety of mistakes. In learning vocabulary, for example, we may make mistakes of over-extension, such as applying the word cat to all four-legged animals. Or we make mistakes of under-extension, such as using cat only for their cat at home, as if it were a name. In fact, making such mistakes is quite normal, but we may feel uncomfortable because we think that we are losing face.

• JS: Er, we basically decided to move to France for the better quality of life. We thought … we looked on the Internet, uh, we saw properties available much cheaper than in Britain. We were fed up with the commuting and the traffic.
• P: He flies from Gatwick to his house in southwest France. And Justin’s not alone. He’s one of a group of commuters who take the same flight to Toulouse every week.
• P: The one just here with the river view.
• RS: The river view, yeah.
• JS: We’re still pinching ourselves. Is this really real?
• P: Yeah.
• JS: We’ve just transformed our lifestyle.

Reading Skills
As we learned in Unit 2, Book 1 and Unit 8, Book 2, it is very important to tell facts from the writer‟s opinions during the course of reading. Then what are facts? And opinions?
facts—what really happened; objective (客观的)
opinions—ideas, feelings, judgements or belief that you get from facts; subjective (主观的)

In addition, we can identify the minor or less important details of a paragraph; the minor details usually answer some of the questions concerning the major detail.
Reading for major details
Skills of reading for major details Learn to read for the main idea. If we are active readers and keen enough to identify the main idea of a paragraph, the major detail to support that main idea will stand out. Understand that facts, evidence and details in a paragraph are not equally important. Only look for those that further support and closely relate to the main idea.
