其实同去的其他五位都是当时非常稀缺的硕士毕业生，学外语的时间比我长，词汇量比我大。
我的口语很差，他们还不如我。
当加拿大朋友知道我们学英语有十年之久却说成那个样子时都非常吃惊。
十年,我们的英语都学到哪里去了？到加拿大以后，我参加了一个英语口语班，因考试成绩不错被分到了高班。
上课以后才发现，我的同学都是刚学英语不久的外国人，其他两位华人是出国多年的老华侨特意来打磨一下已经很好的英语口语的。
在介绍各自学英语的经历时，我感到格外羞愧和汗颜：我的学习时间最长却最差。
这个最差主要变现在口语上，一旦说到语法，则班内无人可以跟我比。
我们的老师特别奇怪，她不明白我的语法那么好却为什么不会说。
有一天我问她，I like swimming 和I like to swim之间有什么区别，老师非常干脆地告诉我完全相同。
我继续追问动词不定式和现在分词之间的差别，老师吃惊地反问我是在哪里学的。
得知我在国内学的，她更是惊得合不拢嘴。
她说她作为语言学教授才学习动词不定式和现在分词之间的差别，一般人是不会在意他们之间的细微差别的。
从那以后，每次我回答语法提问，她都会非常感慨地说：Oh, China!这其实反映了我们中国人学习英语的悲哀。
从学习二十六个字母开始，我们就跟英语语法较上了劲。
我们不但学习基本的语法，而且研习语言学家才关心的高深语法，考试更是以考查语法为主。
记得在清华上学的最后一年，我有幸考入英语高级班，一个考题难住了所有的学生。

学习任何一门外语，都免不了接触语言相关的文化背景，当然，其中也包含诸如语法、社会等方面知识。
对此，若在实际的运用过程中无法正确理清以上几方面的关系，则在跨文化交流中难免会出现问题。
而这种的问题通常亦将表现出语言用语与社会用语两大方面。

一、跨文化语用失误表现（一）语用语言失误外语学习者，其之所以容易出现语用方面的失误，通常是因未能掌握语言的使用语境，或是依照了自身母语的套用方式来盲目套用了其他语言的表达方式。
1、套用了汉语的表达方式：如当中国售货员以“What do you want？”的方式问及外国顾客，则显然不符合英语习惯。
虽然，外国顾客亦能理解其所指为何意，但这确实是一种极不礼貌的行为，而正确的询问应是“What can I do for you？”2、违法了语言习惯。
如Mother：Jim，have you finished yourhomework？Jim：Yes，I have finished my homework，从此句的语法上来看，看似没有错误，但却违背了英语的表达习惯，并且让提问者认为说话者极不耐烦，故正确的说法应是“Yes，I have，”或“No，Ihaven't，”。
3、混淆相同表达在不同语言中的语用意义。
基于不同的语境，则相同的语言亦可表达不同的含义，如当外来游客问及中国路人“Shall I take this way？”。
若路人回以“Of course，”，雖也表达着当然之意，但却隐约包含不耐烦的情绪。
（二）社交语用失误社会用语上的失误，通常是因双方在社会文化背景方面有所差异而导致，且鉴于交谈双方的身份以及谈话语域的不同亦可能导致双方理解产生歧义。

很多老外都听过Chinglish,，也就是中式英语，这种英语多半是带有错误的。
这些中式英语对老外来说非常好玩儿，因为它们会把句子本来的意思说成另一种意思。
比如下面的标语“Carefully bang head”，这句话英语的意思其实是你要故意去碰你的头，但是你要小心一点碰！
本来我很羡慕写这些中式英语标语的人，因为我觉得这些人学英语比我学汉语努力得多，我没资格去评价他们。
后来我学汉语，才知道“小心”的意思是“careful”，“碰”的意思是“bang”，“头”的意思是“head”，我终于明白了中式英语是怎么来的了。
这就像我的“英式汉语”一样，比如我会写“这是一个性福的国家”，因为我不知道我写错了字！
根据汉语的语言规则，以下7中错误是中国人经常犯的。
接下来我们就来简单讨论一下它们，这样你就可以避免犯这些错误了：1. 形容词顺序有误
形容词就是像“big”、“large”、“green”这类用来描述名词的词，比如说：“the big dog”。
在英语里，这些形容词是有特定顺序的，这种顺序和汉语不一样。
所以，你不能说“the blue big mountain”，这是错的，应该说“the big blue mountain”，为什么呢？请看下面的形容词次序列表：（注：数字越大，越靠近名词，越小越远离名词）
1.冠词：a, an, the
2.评价性形容词：beautiful, boring, awesome
3.大小：big, small
4.形状：long, short, round
5.年龄：old, young, new
6.颜色：green, blue, grayish
7.国籍：Chinese, English, American
8.材质：wooden, metallic, concrete
所以“a beautiful small round old green Chinese wooden house”是正确的法，当然一般我们也不会说这么长。
2.可数名词与不可数名词的错用
在英语里，有些名词是可数的，有些是不可数的，比如“眼镜”是可数的，“1 glass, 2 glasses, 3 glasses”，但是“沙子”是不可数的，如果你要度量沙子，一定是有个衡量的容器的，而不是沙子本身，比如“1 bucket of sand, 2 buckets of sand”。
3. 用错或忘了用冠词
英语和汉语很大的一点不同时，英语里有冠词（a，an，the），这些冠词在汉语里用法很不一样，所以很多人会说成“a apple”，这是不对的，为什么？
“an”用在以元音字母（a，e，i，o，u）的可数名词前面，比如：an apple，an orange，an hour（因为“h”不发音，所以还是以“o”开头的）
“a”用在以辅音字母（b，r，l等）开头的可数名词前，比如：a dog，a glass，a hospital（这里“h”是发音的，不是“o”开头）“the”用来谈论一些特定的词，比如：the biggest dog，the tallest men，the last speakers。
4.用错介词
英语里面介词（in，on，at）很多，中国人在这方面很容易犯错误，对于这种错误，没有其他捷径解决，只能多记多注意。
比如：In October, Chinese celebrate the Moon Festival. (不是on October).
5.代词的重复使用
一个句子只能有一个主语，很多中国人容易犯的错误就是重复使用代词（it，she，her），比如：My house it is very far。
应该是My house is very far。
6.时态的误用
时态对于中国人来说真的很难，因为汉语里我们用“去”“去了”“去过”“要去”这样的形式表示时态，而“去”的形态没有变化。
在在英语里动词是有时态变化的，这就让英语变得很难，比如：Next week, I go to my home。
应该是‘Next week, I will go to my home。
所以在使用时，要仔细想清楚到底是用现在时，进行时，过去时，还是将来时。
7. 用错“he”和“she”
因为汉语里我们用“他”和“她”表示男女，但是发音是一样的，所以很多中国人说英语的时候，容易在这上面犯错误，比如：I know Shirley. He is a very beautiful girl。
应该是I know Shirley. She is a very beautiful girl。
以后使用的时候要多注意，最好让你的外国朋友多帮你纠正。
