英语中的颜色与心情

六组：马艺晖、曹博雅、付琪、杨业伟、郭松色彩与人类的生活息息相关，是人类认识世界的一个重要领域。色彩不仅具有物理属性，还有丰富的文化内涵和延伸意义，因此是语言、文化及翻译研究中的一个重要课题。

世界各民族语言表达颜色的词语多寡不一，分类各异。英语和汉语对基本颜色词的分类差别不大。汉语中有赤、橙、黄、绿、青、蓝、紫，英语中有red（红）、white（白）、black（黑）、green（绿）、yellow（黄）、blue（蓝）、purple（紫）、gray（灰）、brown（棕）。

下面使我们探究过程中得到的关于各种颜色的信息：

蓝色Blue：

Blue also represents peace, tranquility , calm ,stability, harmony,

unity,truth,trust,confidence,conservatism,security,cleanliness,order,loyalty,sky,water , cold,technology,and depression. BLue can 'slow the pulse rate,lower body temperature,and reduce appetite.' BLue is considered a business color because it reflects reliability.

在汉语中的引申意义较少，而在英语中blue是一个含义十分丰富的颜色词。在翻译同这一颜色有关的表达时，我们应该注意其中的特别含义。

blue常用来喻指人的“情绪低落”、“心情沮丧”、“忧愁苦闷”，如：She is in holiday blue. 她得了假期忧郁症。有时用来指"下流的"的意思，如：blue talk 下流的言论。又有社会地位高、出身名门的意义，如blue blood贵族血统。与其它词汇搭配，又有另外的含义，如：out of blue 意想不到、once in a blue 千载难逢、drink till all's blue 一醉方休等。

黑色black：

Black is the absence of light and therefore,of colour. it represents

power,sexuality, sophistication, formality, elegance, wealth,

mystery ,fear,evil,anonymity, unhappiness,depth,style,

sadness,remorse,anger,underground,mourning and death.

无论在汉语还是英语中，黑色(black)都可以是感情色彩的词语，表达人的情绪不好。例如：在汉语中，他气得脸色铁青。这里的“青”，指的就是脸色发黑。

①同时，black 在英语中被称为“死色”，常与“不好的”，“坏的”，“邪恶的”相联系，象征着苦难，遭劫和不幸。例如：black list黑名单；black sheep败类，害群之马；Blackman恶魔；black-letter days倒霉的日子；black Friday黑色星期五，指“大灾大难，凶险不祥的日子”，因为美国历史上1869年和1873年发生的俩次经济危机凑巧都是星期五。②不过黑色表示“盈利”之意。如black figure盈利；in the black有盈余；black figure nation指国际收支顺差国。③Black（黑）同时也象征庄重，威严和尊贵。在庄重场合，达官贵人，社会名流都喜欢身穿黑色；交响乐团的成员几乎都是黑色西服，以显示尊严和肃穆；

绿色green：

Green represents nature,environment, health, good

luck,renewal,youth,vigour,spring,generosity,jealousy,inexperience,envy,misforture.

在英语中可以表示"嫉妒、眼红"，如：green with envy，green-eyed 都是指"十分嫉妒"的意思。汉语中表示"嫉妒"意义的"眼红"，应该翻译为green-eyed而非red-eyed。

由于美元纸币是绿颜色的，所以green在美国也指代“钱财、钞票、有经济实力”等意义，如：In American political elections the candidates that win are usually the ones who have green power backing them. 在美国政治竞选中获胜的候选人通常都是些有财团支持的人物。

在英语中绿色还用来表示没有经验、缺乏训练、知识浅薄等意思，如：The new typist is green at her job. 刚来的打字员是个生手。

绿色是青草和树木的颜色，象征着年轻，朝气蓬勃，茁壮成长。无论是在英语或汉语中，绿色的这一象征意义都是一致的。绿色使人联想到大自然的和谐和宁静。例如：in the green 指年富力强的时候；green old age 老当益壮；同时，在英语中，green还可以表示稚嫩，工作不熟练的意思。如：green hand 缺乏经验的人，生手；as green as grass 幼稚橘黄色orange：

Orange combines the energy of red and the happiness of yellow. It is associated with joy, sunshine, and the tropics. Orange represents enthusiasm, fascination, happiness, creativity, determination, attraction, success, encouragement, and stimulation.

To the human eye, orange is a very hot color, so it gives the sensation of heat. Nevertheless, orange is not as aggressive as red. Orange increases oxygen supply to the brain, produces an invigorating effect, and stimulates mental activity. It is highly
