Dating back to Norman times, it is famous for sweeping landscaped gardens, which is easy to see why it’s the Queen’s favorite week place. Famous for its architecture and Royal palace, the Castle was built in the 11th century after the Norman invasion. It’s home to priceless artworks and you can visit Queen Mary’s Dolls’ House. Remember don’t miss the ceremony—Changing of the Guards.StonehengeStonehenge is located in the county of Wiltshire. This is your chance to see a side of the world-famous stones that most people don’t get a chance to see! You will never forget your first glimpse of grand Stonehenge with its rocks rising up against the skyline on Salisbury Plain. There are many unsolved mysteries about the rocks. Was Stonehenge intended as a religious temple? A clock for astronomy? A burial ground? Make up your own mind as you explore this unique site that has confused the world for 5, 000 years.BathBeautiful Bath was the first city in England to be added to the UNESCO World Heritage List. No tour of Bath would be complete with a visit to the famous Roman Baths that gave the city its name. This beautifully preserved bathing site still has flowing water from Brain’s only hot spring. You will be amazed by the impressive torch-lighting ceremony as dusk falls. You can also have a taste of Bath’s water in Pump Room, where hot waters are drawn for drinking. 21.If your family (2 adults and 2 children) want to visit Winsor, Bath and Stonehenge, it will cost you at least ________. A .£188 B .£356 C .£168D .£34622.Where can visitors see Changing of the Guards? A .In WinsorCastle. B .In Bath. C .In Stonehenge.D .In Pump Room.23.Where is the passage probably taken from?A.a science fiction novel B.a travelling brochureC.a news report D.a sports magazineWhen I graduated from high school, I wanted to major in comparative literature. But, once I found out my friends were going into “real” majors, like marketing, nursing, and engineering, I figured I needed to do the same to ensure a good career. So I changed my mind and chose Business Management as my major. I forced myself to believe that I would enjoy it and succeed in the future, but eventually I exhausted myself understanding the economy and trying new marketing techniques. Coming out of this experience, I realize it is ok to be different from others and to study things like art history and other majors offered in the College of Humanities(人文学科)!The worries most people have about a Humanities degree and finding a career afterwards are that the majors are too abstract, and one will not obtain any applicable skills. Actually ideas discussed in Humanities classes, which are occasionally different from what people commonly believe, offer a broad perspective(视角). How could one effectively be an unbiased(无偏见的)writer with only a knowledge of the popular opinion of society? How could one speak persuasively with closed minds? Only seeing the world through a single perspective leads to missed learning, missed friendships, and missed growth! With a broader perspective, we’ll be freer, more open-minded, and less limited in what we can become!STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) graduates learn actual skills in their studies, while humanities majors learn “soft skills” like communicating effectively through writing critically and speaking persuasively, synthesizing(综合)ideas through gathering and interpreting information, and developing cultural awareness. Do those soft skills sound useless and inapplicable to you? Think of it. How often do you communicate with others? Produce ideas? Encounter people from other cultures? Every day. Every SECOND of every day. So why not master these skills? If you choose a major in the College of Humanities, you will be needed. The job market is quietly creating thousands of openings a week for people who can bring a humanist’s grace to our rapidly evolving high-tech future. Your skills will be valuable to any workplace you hope to be in. Chase after your dream major with all your energy, no matter what other people think.24.Why did the author choose Business Management as his major at first?试卷第6页,总14页A .He was tired of learning comparative literature.B .He came to enjoy learning marketing techniques.C .He wanted to go to the same university as his friends.D .He believed Business Management was more practical.25.According to the author, what is a possible way to gain a broad perspective? A .Making more friends and learning from them. B .Exchanging ideas in a philosophy class. C .Opening your mind to future possibilities. D .Getting to know the popular opinion of society.26.In which of the following situations do soft skills play the most important role? A .Writing a software program. B .Performing a heart operation. C .Playing a musical instrument.D .Negotiating with a business partner.27.What could be the best title for the passage? A .Stick to Your Desired major B .Broaden Your Perspective C .How to Acquire Soft Skills D .Humanities vs. STEMA small school in rural India is gaining attention over the fact that all 300 students are ambidextrous(左右手都灵巧的). Data shows that only one percent of the global population is ambidextrous, but the ambitious founder of Veena V andini School, in Madhya Pradesh, is aiming to change that, starting at a local level.A former soldier and Veena Vandini School founder VP Sharma stated that he was inspired to focus on ambidexterity training by India’s first president Rajendra Prasad who was in office from 1950 to 1962. Unexpectedly, the president was ambidextrous. "I read in a magazine that Dr. Rajendra Prasad, India’s first president, used to write with both hands. This inspired me to give it a try, “Mr. Sharma said.”Later when I launched my school at my native village, I tried training the students. ""We begin training students from standard Ⅰ and by the time they reach standard Ⅲ, they are comfortable writing with both the hands,” Sharma added. "Students of up to standard Ⅶ can write with speed and accuracy. Further, they can write two scripts at the same time, one with each hand. Students also know several languages, including Urdu. "Every 45-minute class at Veena Vandini includes 15 minutes devoted to handwriting practice, ensuring that every student develops the ability to write with both hands. VP Sharmaalso believes that the skill better enables students to learn multiple languages, and has them practice writing the same words in different languages at the same time. Although it is widely believed to help increase concentration, more recent studies have found that this is false and studying to become ambidextrous can, in fact, harm cognitive development.A Scientific American study revealed that ambidextrous children performed worse than left- or right-handers on a range of skills, especially in math, memory, and logical reasoning.A study in northern Finland indicated that children who are ambidextrous are much likelier to develop mental health issues, including ADHD, language problems, and academic problems. 28.What is special about V eena Vandini School?A.It only accepts 300 students yearly.B.It was set up by India’s first president.C.It mainly teaches how to write with both hands.D.It requires students to learn practical living skills29.In which standard can students write quickly and accurately?A.Standard Ⅲ. B.Standard Ⅳ.C.Standard Ⅵ. D.Standard Ⅶ.30.What might most people think of the skill promoted by VP Sharma?A.It helps students fix their attention.B.It does harm to students’ creativity.C.It increases students’ academic stress.D.It inspires students to learn more languages.31.What do the two studies suggest in the last paragraph?A.Kids are reluctant to write with both hands.B.Kids shouldn’t learn to write with both hands.C.Kids who are ambidextrous always fail in the math test.D.Kids who are ambidextrous often have serious mental illnessEssentially, everyone has two ages: a chronological(按时间计算的)age, how old the calendar says you are, and a biological age, basically the age at which your body functions as it compares to average fitness or health levels.“Chronological age isn’t how old we really are. It’s merely a number,” said ProfessorDavid Sinclair at Harvard University. “It is biological age that determines our health and试卷第8页,总14页ultimately our lifespan. We all age biologically at different rates according to our genes, what we eat, how much we exercise, and what environment we live in. Biological age is the number of candles we really should be blowing out. In the future, with advances in our ability to control biological age, we may have even fewer candles on our birthday cake than the previous one.”To calculate biological age, Professor Levine at Yale University identified nine biomarker (生物标志)that seemed to be the most influential on lifespan by a simple blood test. The numbers of those markers, such as blood sugar and immune (免疫的)measures, can be put into the computer, and the algorithm (算式;算法)does the rest.Perhaps what’s most important here is that these measures can be changed. Doctors can take this information and help patients make changes to lifestyle, and hopefully take steps to improve their biological conditions. “I think the most exciting thing about this research is that these things aren’t set in stone,” Levine said. “People can be given the information ear lier and take steps to improve their health before it’s too late.”Levine even entered her own numbers into the algorithm. She was surprised by the results. “I always considered myself a very healthy person. I’m physically active; I eat what I consider a fairly healthy diet. But I did not find my results to be as good as I had hoped they would be. It was a wake-up call,” she said.Levine is working with a group to provide access to the algorithm online so that anyone can calculate their biological age, identify potential risks and take steps to improve their own health in the long run. “No one wants to live an extremely long life with a lot of chronic (慢性的)diseases,” Levine said. “By delaying the development of mental and physical functioning problems, people can still be engaged in society in their senior years. That is the ideal we should be pursuing.”32.Biological age depends on _______.A .whether we can adapt ourselves to the environmentB .how well our body works compared with our peers’C .when we start to take outdoor exerciseD .what the calendar says about our age33.By saying “we may have even fewer candles on our birthday cake than the previous one” in Para. 2, the author means _______.A .we don’t have to celebrate our birthday every yearB .we are chronologically older than last yearC .we might be less happy than the previous yearD .we may be biologically younger than the year before34.What does the author want to tell us by Levine’s example in Para. 5? A .It is necessary to change our diet regularly. B .The test results may give us wrong information. C .Waking up early in the morning is good for our fitness. D .The algorithm can reveal our potential health problems. 35.The eventual goal of Levine’s research is to ______. A .free people from chronic diseases B .work out a solution to genetic problems C .keep people socially active even in old age D .provide people with access to scientific theory 三、七选五A daily multivitamin may give your well -being an extra benefit ,but if you’ve ever swallowed one and felt sick right after ,you know it’s hardly a pleasant experience. 36.You’re taking vitamins on an empty stomach.Vitamins that are more acid in nature ,like vitamin C ,may cause nausea(恶心)if they’re consumed on an empty stomach. Vitamins A ,D ,E and K ,unlike some others ,may be better absorbed when not taken with food.37.Vitamins are like medicines in that they can act on each other and other medicines you’re taking. 38. Some research suggests that multivitamins could cause side effects when taken at the same time with high estrogen(雌激素)levels. There’s a lot of iron in your pill.Multivitamins that contain a lot of iron or iron supplements themselves can cause nausea. Thi s is especially true if you’re taking them outside of a meal. Iron is interesting in that it’s best absorbed on an empty stomach ,but it’s hardest to take on an empty stomach because of the nausea. 39. It might decrease the absorption a little bit but it’s better than nothing.Allergic reaction side effects.试卷第10页,总14页Since multivitamins contain so many vitamins and minerals ,allergic reactions are certainly possible .Mild allergic reactions can include itchiness(痒) and a few hives(荨麻疹). 40. Should you experience more advanced signs of an allergic reaction ,such as trouble breathing ,chest pain ,widespread hives or a swollen facial region ,visit the closest emergency room immediately.A .You’re taking vitamins with other medicines.B .Below are a few reasons why multivitamins may be making you ill.C .It’s important to discuss with an expert the timing of these vitamins.D .These stomach issues can be extremely disturbing.E .It’s better to take it with food than trying taking it on an empty stomach.F .If you experience these side effects ,stop use and contact your doctor.G .Please review the combinations to make sure there are no harmful interactions. 四、完形填空“Nature and Nurture”(遗传还是环境)People have wondered for a long time how their personalities and behavior are formed. However, it is not easy to explain why one person is intelligent and another is not, or why one is cooperative and another 41 .Social scientists are of course 42 interested in these types of questions. They want to explain why we possess certain 43 and exhibit certain behavior. There are no clear answers yet, but two 44 schools of thought on the matter have developed. 45 one might expect, the two approaches are very different from each other, and there is a great deal of debate between 46 of each theory. The controversy(争论) is often referred to as “nature and nurture”.Those who 47 the “nature” side of the conflict believe that our pers onalities and behavior patterns are 48 determined by biological factors. That our environment has little, if anything, to do with our abilities, characteristics and behavior is 49 to this theory. Taken to an extreme, this theory states that our behavior is predetermined to such a great degree that we are almost completely governed by our 50 .Supporters of the “nurture” theory, or, as they are often called, 51 , claim that our environment is more important than our biologically based instinctsin determining how wewill act. A behaviorist, B.F. Skinner, sees humans as beings whose behavior is almost completely 52 by their surroundings. The behaviorists’ view of the human being is quite mechanistic(机械论的). They state that, like machines, humans respond to 53 stimuli(刺激) as the basis of their behavior.Socially and politically, the results of these two theories are 54 . In the US, for example, blacks often score below whites on intelligence tests. This leads some “nature” supporters to conclude that blacks are genetically 55 in status than whites are. Behaviorists, 56 , say that the differences in scores are due to the fact that blacks are often robbed of many of the educational and other environmental 57 that whites enjoy, and that, as a result, they do not develop the same 58 that whites do.Neither of these theories can yet fully explain human behavior. As a matter of fact, it is quite 59 that the key to our behavior lies somewhere between these two extremes and that the debate will 60 for a long time is certain.41.A.sensitive B.productive C.competitive D.impressive 42.A.frequently B.extremely C.generally D.occasionally 43.A.approaches B.possessions C.characteristics D.friends 44.A.different B.reliable C.excellent D.equal 45.A.What B.As C.Which D.That 46.A.objectors B.operators C.opponents D.supporters 47.A.claim B.support C.resolve D.object 48.A.completely B.largely C.thoroughly D.merely 49.A.sensitive B.open C.central D.subject 50.A.abilities B.teachers C.personalities D.instincts 51.A.experts B.behaviorists C.environmentalists D.scientists 52.A.shaped B.discussed C.constructed D.learned 53.A.environmental B.biological C.psychological D.physical 54.A.temporary B.slight C.fatal D.far-reaching 55.A.lower B.higher C.stronger D.smarter 56.A.on the contrary B.as a whole C.after all D.for instance 57.A.protections B.pollutions C.technologies D.advantages58.A.conclusions B.abilities C.responses D.opportunities60.A.arise B.disappear C.continue D.respond第II卷(非选择题)请点击修改第II卷的文字说明五、语法填空阅读下面短文,在空白处填入1个适当的单词或括号内单词的正确形式。
