Good morning, class!

We know that there are too many net bars around us. The Internet is popular and it makes our lives colorful. Many of us like going online very much because we can learn how to use the computer and get more information from the Internet. We can learn English. We can read some good newspapers and magazines. It can make us clever in playing computer games. We can send E-mails to our friends quickly. We can chat(聊天) freely online with our friends. It can help us get in touch with people from all over the world.

But some students spend too much time in playing computer game and some stay in the net bars all day and all night. Teenagers even get to have boyfriends or girlfriends online. They write too many letters to each other. It takes them to much time to chat online so they do worse and worse in their lessons and they don’t study well any more.

I think we mustn’t get online when it is time for us to study. We can do it in summer or winter holidays. We should get online with adults(成人)--our teacher or parents. At the same time, if we have lots of free time, we can do some out-of-class activities at school. We usually have activities from 4:50 to 5:50 in the afternoon. We have different kinds of activities. If you are interested in sports, you can play basketball or football. We can go to the English Corner. We can practice talking in English there. We hope we can spend more time on our subjects or on such activities that we can learn a lot from and less time on the Internet.

Thank you for listening to me.That’s all.

You have no mobile phone. What do you do? Well, next time take a GPS with you. This invention may be able to help you. It is a device(装置) which uses satellites (卫星) to find the user’s position(位置). It can find your position to within 20 metres. A GPS cannot start your car, but at least you will know where you are.

GPS, which means Global Positioning System, is a small radio receiver. It looks like

a mobile phone. You can hold it in your hand, or put in your pocket. It is sometimes put into a watch or a telephone. We also find GPS devices in cars, planes, or boats. Some of these devices have electronic maps, so you know where you are. For example, in a city they can tell you the name of the street.

There are three parts to the Global Positioning System. The first part is the receiver. You can hold it in your hand, or have it fixed into your car, plane, etc. The second part is a group of satellites orbiting the Earth. The receiver contacts at least four of the satellites and calculates(计算) its position. The third part of the system is a network of ground stations. They are all over the world. They control the satellites and make sure they are working well.

Some people think that in the future the GPS will be as common as the mobile. They are becoming cheaper and more and more accurate(精确的). There are also new uses for the GPS. Perhaps they will become like watches. Everyone will have one and you will never be lost again.

B. the introduction of the GPS

C. the shape of the GPS

D. the three parts of the GPS

5.What can we infer(推断) from the passage?

Americans throw away about 1 ton of rubbish per person every year. That's 2000 pounds of rubbish! Most of the rubbish gets covered in big holes in the round called landfills(垃圾掩埋法). A lot of this rubbish can be recycled,or turned back to something useful. The main things we recycle today are made of metal and paper. People recycle for many reasons. One of the main reasons is to protect resources(资源).Making new cans out of old ones means less aluminum(铝) is needed for new cans. This leads to a second reason people recycle:it saves energy.Recycling old aluminum ca ns take much less energy than making new aluminum. To make new aluminum, you need to mine metal ore(矿石) from the ground, remove it,and refine it,into a finished metal. Recycling also protects valuable land.By recycling,we produce less rubbish. That means fewer landfills are needed for dropping our rubbish.Because metals are some what costly to make, they are the world's most recycled materials.About two-thirds of all steel(钢) is recycled. Almost all drink cans are made of aluminum.Americans recycle about one-third of their used aluminum cans.Empty cans are sent to special factories. There, they are cleaned, melted, and made into new pieces of aluminum. Americans use lots of paper — mostly in the form of newspapers, magazines, and cardboard boxes. In fact, paper takes up more space in landfills than any other material. Old paper can be cut and made are into new paper.Americans recycle a little more than one-third of their paper rubbish.New papers are made from trees, each ton of recycled paper saves about 17 trees!

如Adela、Manchester、NATO。
