英语以成语(idiom)丰富而著称，而且种类繁多。从严格意 义上来说，英语成语既不属于词汇的范畴，也不属于语 法的范畴，它本质上是一种“语言习惯”，是语言在长 期的运用过程中在句法、词汇和语义方面所形成的特点， 无理据可言。这种语言习惯，不但因语言不同而相异， 就是同一种语言也会随着时代的发展而变化。在莎士比 亚时代，人们普遍认同这样的疑问句式(“Like you this?”) 和否定句式(“I like it not.”)，
