2 Trying to reason out the best course of action, he talked with his father and mother, who had moved into the ten-room house with the Koshaks a month earlier fromCalifornia. He also consulted Charles Hill, a long time friend, who had driven from Las Vegas for a visit.
6 Rain fell steadily that afternoon; gray clouds scudded in from the Gulf on the rising wind. The family had an early supper. A neighbor, whose hБайду номын сангаасsband was inVietnam, asked if she and her two children could sit out the storm with the Koshaks. Another neighbor came by on his way in-land — would the Koshaks mind taking care of his dog?
12 As they scrambled back, john ordered, "Every-body on the stairs!" Frightened, breathless and wet, the group settled on the stairs, which were protected by two interiorwalls. The children put the oat, Spooky, and a box with her four kittens on the landing. She peered nervously at her litter. The neighbor's dog curled up and went to sleep.

B Discussion
The issue of what topics are suitable when talking to strangers (particularly if they are clients whom you must impress, rather than embarrass) is quite complex, and rather personal. Clearly there are no hard-and-fast rules about this, but probably politics and religion are no-go areas, and your own family might be too personal a topic to talk about at the start of the meeting.
3.
Mr. Green behaves very much as Martin's boss (he is quite authoritarian).Mr. Green is probably the transport manager and Martin is a driver. They are talking about Martin collecting someone at the airport.

☺If clients are present, they should be introduced first. ☺If you are being introduced to someone, shake hands and say ‘Hello (informal)’ or ‘Pleased to meet you/ How do you do (formal)’, followed by the person’s name. ☺Treat business cards with respect. Take a moment to read them and carefully put them somewhere safe. ☺Address people by their first names only if they indicate that they want you to.

To a great extent, success in business depends on creating the right impression. Politeness and formality are often keys to achieving a desired communicative effect.
Friendly smile, a firm handshake and a sincere eye contact are the keys to create a welcoming atmosphere English proficiency

Discussion
What
are the significance in making good first impression? What impressions you try to give to people you deal with in business? What impressions do you try not to give? What people use to form their first opinion? What are the important aspects of first impression?
Tips for introducing people
1.
2. 3. 4. 5.
Order of importance Watch your language Use full name Contextualize The springboard
Rules of introduction

1. A man is always introduced to a woman. "Mrs. Griffiths, I'd like you to meet Mr. Jardine." "Jill, this is my cousin, John Marshall." 2. A young person is always introduced to an older person. "Dr. Stanhope, I'd like you to meet my daughter, Lily Schurman." "Aunt Lorraine, this is my roommate, Gianetta Donegan." 3. A less important person is always introduced to a more important person. This rule can be complicated, since it may be difficult to determine who is more important. There is one guideline which may help in some circumstances: Members of your family, even though they may be more prominent, are introduced to the other person as a matter of courtesy. "Mr. Conover, I'd like you to meet my father, 4. Introduce an individual to the group first, then the group to the individual. For example: 'Dr Brown, I'd like you to meet my friends, Kim Howe, Simon Campbell and Michael Vince. Everyone, this is Dr Kurt Brown.'

1.1 First Impressions…

This section introduces the idea that, in business life, it’s important not just to be efficient and do your job but also to look and sound friendly, confident, sincere and helpful… and not unfriendly, insincere, shy or unhelpful!

.
Formal: Good morning/afternoon
(sir/madam/miss/ms…) Can I help you? Less formal: Hi/Hello, Can I help you?
Good impression and bad impression .

A good impression reflects your company’s image (no company wants its customers to think it’s unpleasant!). If you start off a relationship in a friendly, pleasant way it’s likely to go on in the same way, which will be to everyone’s advantage. Try to be: alert, distinct, friendly, confident, calm, honest, skilful, intelligent, nice, helpful, polite Try not to be: sleepy, unclear, lazy, dishonest, clumsy, stupid, prejudiced, inefficient, nasty, unhelpful, off-hand, rude

.
The
easiest way is to always say the name of the woman, the older person, or the more prominent person first, followed by the phrase, "I'd like you to meet..." "this is..." "may I introduce..."
Additional questions: ♫ What is Chris Grey’s job? ♫ What problem did Liz Jones meet ? ♫ Where does Miss Lucas live and where was she raised?
