In some countries, young women follow slimming diets to lose extra kilos in preparation for their wedding day. In other cultures, looking thin for a husband-to-be is not what a woman desires at all — rather, looking a little overweight is considered more attractive.With the influence of history, society and culture, there are no precise criteria which can be used to judge what is beautiful. Lifelong commitment and, indeed, the survival of society itself rely on people seeing beauty in difference and depth. The human race would soon die out if we could only see beauty within a set of limited criteria. Physical beauty must also be accompanied by an attraction to something deeper within a person. What is Beauty
As we all know, it is human nature that all of us have never stopped the steps of chasing
beauty. With the rising of our living standard, the measure in people’s mind of beauty has
been changed accordingly.
Nowadays, our life is full of challenges. Many people narrowly think that beauty is just
having a lovely appearance, putting on good clothes, wearing prismy decorations and
etcetera. But it seems to me, all these are more or less confined to the beauty in
appearance. The real beauty should be that one is totally absorbed in his performance, or
rather, the self-confidence.
Life is not a rehearsal. Every moment is live. Yeah, each of us is only one among millions
of others, but each of us is an individual and each of us is unique. Cultivating our
individuality will transform our lives, making of them a kaleidoscope of new colors and
textures.
Confidence in self is the first secret of success. Bacon once said that "to the most
important things in life, the first is fearless, the second is fearless, the third is fearless."
Consider Sophia Loren, for instance, becoming a super star which astonished the world.
Her great success is definitely related to her confidence. When all of the photographers
said she didn't meet beauty standards and the director also advised her to go to cosmetic
surgery, Loren insisted "I will keep my character. I won't change anything." Finally, her
unique appearance and unrestrained temperament were recognized by the public. Her
movie Two Women achieved great success, and won the Oscar for best actress awards.
As Loran said, each of us is distinctive inherently. Perhaps I’m so common in others’
eyes, but for me, if given a choice, I would prefer being ugly to living in a world where
my own beauty is appreciated. I would rather be myself. I would contribute my individual
and unique colors to creating a more diverse universe. Be myself, be more self-confident,
and I believe in my success one day.
