Critical thinking(批判性思维) is trying to improve the way you think. People use critical thinking in every area of life to solve problems and evaluate claims(评估主张).Like every other skill, critical thinking takes practice. When a problem comes our way, we need to think critically to decide how to solve it. When we see an advertisement, for example, we should stop and think. Advertisements are made to make people feel certain that they are true, and then people can buy the products. But is what the advertisement says true? Is it making a claim? Or does it only interest us? Critical thinking is important and stops us from making poor choices. In fact, we are using it if we ask questions naturally about what we see.Practice makes perfect. While you are growing in critical thinking, you’ll become a wiser and more thoughtful person. There are many ways of doing practice. Here are a few.★Read about a topic people disagree on. Look at articles or books on all sides of the subject. For each side of the subject, think carefully and evaluate it.★When you see or hear a claim, ask questions about it. Who is making the claim and why?★Evaluate your own thinking. Where and why do you think uncritically? How can you improve?Critical thinking should be part of everything we do. It may help you to succeed at work or school. Make yourself into a habit of critical thinking. Change your thoughts and change your world.1、2题完成句子;3题简略回答问题;4题找出并写下第二段的主题句;5题将文中画线句子译成汉语。

Step 2

Confidence is very important in daily life. It can help you develop a healthy attitude(态度). A study shows that people who are more confident are much happier. They may have more chances to become successful. But how can we be more confident? Here are some suggestions:Speak louder. When you are not confident, it's hard to do what you want to do well. You speak in a voice so low that other people can hardly hear you. Try to speak loud enough so people can hear you clearly. Your voice can help you become more confident.Play sports. Physical exercise makes you tired but completely relaxed. A strong body helps you be full of confidence.Encourage yourself. Write down a list of things you did during the day to see how many things you did well. Did you finish your homework? Did you tell a joke that made everybody laugh? Give yourself praise for the good things you've done.Get rid of(消除)fear. Fear goes along with failure. But it's easy to overcome(克服)if you understand that failure is part of life. Don't hide in your head just because you said something stupid once. Try to start again and believe you can do better.Pick up a hobby. If you like singing, sing as much as you can. Answer the questions(根据短文内容回答下列问题): ( 12分)As soon as people realize that my brother Michael, my sisterTiffany and I were born on the same day, that we’re triplets, theyask the strangest questions. But no, we can’t read each other’sminds. We don’t have the same dreams. And I can promise you that we don’t always get along. These are the things I get asked most often when people meet me for the first time.Although there are lots of good things about being a triplet, one thing I really don’t like is when p eople think of us as one person - ‘MichaelDesireeTiffany’ instead of ‘Michael’ and ‘Desiree’ and ‘Tiffany’. I don’t like it when people think we should act or think the same just because we were born at the same time, like when people ask me why I’m so shy while Michael and Tiffany are so much louder. And I definitely don’t like it when people don’t understand that we have individual (个人的) choices of what to do in our spare time.Growing up, Tiffany, Michael and I shared almost everything. It was funny how the exact moment I wanted to use the bike was the same time that Tiffany felt like going for a ride. When the three of us learned to drive at the same time, we very often fought over who got to practise with the car.My dad came up with a brilliant plan ca lled ‘turns’. One Sunday a month, each of us would have a chance to spend three hours with our dad, alone, and do whatever we wanted. For three hours every month each of us was allowed to feel like he/she was an only child. This helped me to see that being a triplet is a part of me, but it isn’t the only part of me. I don’t just want to be thought of as ‘Desiree, the girl who’s a triplet’. I want to be thought of as an individual.88. Is Desiree the only girl of the triplets?89. What question might people ask the triplets when they first meet them? Give oneexample.90. How did they decide who practised with the car first?91. How often could each of the triplets have the “alone time”with their father?92. In what ways are the triplets different? Answer the questions (根据短文内容回答问题):(12分)Venus (金星) has long been one of the most misunderstood planets. Like the earth, Venus has its own atmosphere. However, the atmosphere is muchthicker than that of the earth, which makes it difficult for modernscientists to study. There is much we still do not know about what thisplanet like. However, using special machines, scientists have unlockedmany of the long-hidden secrets in recent years.Venus is in many ways the earth’s sister planet. It is almost the same in size and chemistry as the earth. In other words, Venus is made up of almost the exact same types of materials as the earth, in about the same amounts. In the early days of Venus’ 4-billion-year-old life, it would have appeared very similar to the earth. The two would have been almost the same. However, over a period of a few million years ago, Venus lies much closer to the sun than our planet. It has made Venus terribly hot.Since it is closer to the sun, Venus’ temperature should be a little warmer than that of the earth. As the planet warmed, water which can be used to form oceans, lakes and rivers, evaporated(蒸发). This increase in water vapor(水蒸气)began a cycle of global warming. Water vapor is a very effective greenhouse gas. It caused the temperature to rise and more water to evaporate. The temperature then climbed still further. Today it is likely that all of Venus’s water has evaporated into the atmosphere. This atmosphere effectively keeps the sun’s energy and makes the surface to burn much hotter than it naturally would. If you happen to find a way to survive the extreme heat on the surface of Venus, you will quickly notice something strange about the days. Venus rotates(旋转) very slowly, so that a day on Venus actually lasts longer than a year. He was taller by nearly 1.5 inches (3.81cm) when he landed on Earth after his 340-day space missionon the International Space Station (ISS).His change in height, which lasted about two days, raisedthe question: What are the effects of a long-term stay inspace? As you probably know, there is no gravity in space. This not only causes difficulties in everyday actions like eating, walking and sleeping, but also problems for the human body. The first problem is the air. Without gravity, carbon dioxide cannot spread during breathing, but gathers around the body and causes headaches. More than that, human feelings of movement are affected, which could make people feel sick. The body’s fluids(液体) don’t work well in weightlessness, making blood flow upward instead of down to the lower legs, and astronauts’ faces become fatter than normal. Gaps between bones also become larger because humans cannot stand up straight. The spine(脊柱) can also get bigger in zero gravity. In addition, human bodies become weaker because of the lack of gravity and space to move around in. Some astronauts said that after they returned, their muscles hurt and their skin became very sensitive(敏感的). Kelly said during his first press conference, “It was almost like my body was on fire wherever I sat or lay or walked.”However, the research into the effects of long-term space flight on human bodiesand minds never stops. There are many actions that astronauts can take in space. 31Hopes, ambitions (抱负), dreams. How many of yours will you achieve? When you look back at your life in the future, will you have good memories of all he things that you did? Or will you regret all the things that you didn't do?Of course, there's no easy road to success, but one thing is certain: success won't come if you don't do anything. So how do you do it? This four-step model will help you to make your dreams come true.Step 1: 32What would you like to do? Write down all your ambitions. They may be very general, such as I would like to be fitter. I want to be famous or It would be nice to have more friends. Or they may be more specific, like I've always wanted to play a musical instrument.Step 2: 33Now you need to do two things:1. Choose one or two ambitions. If you try to do everything, you won't do anything.2. Set a time limit (限定). This is very important, because you will have a goal and you will also know when you have reached it.So, for example, I would like to be fitter. in Step 1 now becomes I will be fit enough to join a half-marathon race by the end of August.Step 3: 34Now that you've made your choice, what are you actually going to do to achieve your goal? So, in our example, I will be fit enough to join a half-marathon race by the end of August. becomes I'm going to join a running club. or I'm going to go jogging three times a week.Step 4: 35This is when you change your intentions (意图) into specific actions. Prepare to do something at a specific time. If you don't do this, your dreams and plans will just stay as dreams and plans. So now I'm going to join a running club. becomes I'm meting the president of the Cheetahs Running Club on Monday evening at 5∶30.Don't let your ambitions die. Follow this four-step plan and make your dream come true.(2020 ·宁波)相似的话题常有不同的写作结构,请你阅读以下材料,将所给的写作结构图(A-E) 与相应的阅读材料进行匹配___41___.Air Jordan (飞人乔丹) shoes are very popular and expensive.
