第一部分 必修三 Module 2Ⅰ.阅读理解导学号 02280344(2015·河南郑州四中调研) More than half of parents in the United States are helping, or have helped their adult children who have been hit by high unemployment and stagnant (无变化的) wages, according to a new survey. It showed that present economic conditions are discouraging young adults from leaving home and forcing those who have already gone, socalled boomerang_children,_to return.“Parents are continuing their financial involvement longer than we expected,” said Ted Beck, the president and CEO of National Endowment for Financial Education (NEFE).About 60 percent of parents questioned in the survey said they are helping their adult children who are no longer in school financially, providing housing and living expenses. For an increasing number of adult children, the situation is bad. Twothirds of adult children, aged 18 to 39, who are not in school said they faced tougher financial pressures than previous generations, according to the survey. And nearly onethird of parents agreed that it was easier for them to earn money than for their children.Parents are helping their children out of genuine concern, and because they do not want to see them struggle. But Beck said that parents who make sacrifices to help their adult children should be cautious about their own finances.“If you are taking on extra debt or delaying retirement to help your adult child, you could be making a mistake and putting your own financial future in danger,” Beck warned.Boomerang children can also cause other problems for their parents. Thirty percent of parents said they had given up privacy since their adult children moved back home, while more than a quarter have taken on added debt, and ten percent have delayed retirement. But the survey also showed that 42 percent of adult children living at home are helping with the cooking and cleaning.语篇解读:本文是一篇议论文。

At first, he was no one special in my life. Then he became my friend. In time, I felt he was also my father.Leo married my mother when I was eleven. Two years later we moved into a house in a new suburban (郊区的) development area, where we put down roots. At first our lawn was just a pile of mud with wild grass, but Leo saw bright possibilities. "We will plant trees there to give us shade as well as some flowers," he said. And just these little touches made our house with its own special traditions. Leo was becoming a fulltime parent, and I was learning what it meant to have a father.Weekday mornings when the weather was bad, Leo often drove me to school. Having a father drop you off may have been something my classmates took for granted, but I always thought it was wonderful. On Saturday mornings, we went to the shop, buying a sports magazine or something else. Some people might think that doing shopping together is nothing special, but I, who had ever before spent my childhood watching other families do their everyday activities, experienced them now with extreme delight. Looking back, I realized that Leo gave me what I needed most, the experience of doing ordinary things together as a family.Soon after we moved to the suburbs, one of our new neighbors introduced herself to me. She had already met my mother and Leo. "You know," she said, "you look just like your father." I knew she was just making conversation but even so... "Thank you," I said. Why tell her anything different?56. The writer's purpose in writing this passage is ______.A. to show his unforgettable experiencesB. to show how interesting a person Leo wasC. to explain why they moved to the suburbsD. to remind us of our parents57. Which of the following can be used in place of the underlined phrase "put down roots"?A. Settled.B. Planted.C. Farmed.D. Worked.58. In the writer's opinion, ______.A. it is not easy for stepfamilies to live togetherB. not all the stepfathers are so good as LeoC. the husband and the wife must think more about their children before they divorce(离婚)D. in stepfamilies the love and friendship are extremely precious59. When he said "Why tell her anything different" in the last paragraph, the writer meant that ______.A. he should have told her the truthB. he shouldn't tell her the truthC. he wanted to tell her something that had nothing to do with LeoD. he'd like to keep silence whenever he met the neighborsBThe modern Olympic Games were founded with the intentions of improving health and education, promoting world peace, and encouraging fair and equal competition. But over the years, the Olympic saying, "Faster, higher, stronger", has pushedscientists as well as athletes to do everything possible to reach new levels. Doctors, engineers and coaches all use everything to achieve that little bit extra in competition. The reason modern technology has become part of sport is very simple: Winning is just important as it was 2,500 years ago at the Olympics of ancient Greece. Developments in technology have often been reflected in the methods of training and performance at the Olympics through history. The technology falls into two main groups: improving an athlete's performance in competition, and allowing results to be measured more accurately. One of the creations that has drawn the most attention is the new high-tech swimsuit from Speedo, which was used by many US swimmers in Athens. Until Sydney 2021, it was thought that the smaller the swimsuit was, the faster the swimmer would travel. "However, the fact that at the Sydney Olympics, 28 of the 33 gold medalists were wearing the body covering suit proves the theory was out of date," said Andy Thomas, vice-president of Speedo. The company's full body suit is supposed to make swimmers 3 to 4 percent faster, particularly when diving into the water. It is believed that suit creates less water resistance as it moves, behaving more like a shark than a human skin. The introduction of high-tech equipment means that athletes in all sports, from the 100-meter sprint to the pole vault, can now train more effectively.60. Which is NOT the first aims of the modern Olympic Games?A. Improving health and education.B. Promoting world peace.C. Encouraging fair and equal competition.D. Winning medals.61. The reason why modern technology has become part of sport is that people ______.A. make every effort to achieve greater success in sportsB. do their best to invent new sports equipmentC. try to test their abilitiesD. want to become famous62. From the passage we know ______.A. before the Sydney Olympics people thought the less the swimmers wore, the faster they swamB. at the Sydney Olympics among 33 swimming and diving gold medallists, 28 wore the suit made by SpeedoC. people think the body covering swimsuit is too heavyD. it it believed that the new high-tech suit creates no water resistance as it moves63. In the passage it mentions that high technology is involved in ______ aspects.A. 1B. 2C. 3D. 4C“I would almost rather see you dead,〞Robert S. Cassatt, a leading banker of Philadelphia, shouted when his twenty-year-old eldest daughter announced (宣布) that she wanted to become an artist. In the 19th century, playing at drawing or painting on dishes was all right for a young lady, but serious work in art was not. And when the young lady's family ranked among (跻身于) the best of Philadelphia's social(社交界的) families, such an idea could not even be considered. That was how Mary Cassatt, born 1844, began her struggle as an artist. She did not tremble (发抖) before her father's anger. Instead, she opposed (抗拒) him with courage and at last made him change his mind. Mary Cassatt gave up her social position (社会地位) and all thought of a husband and a family, which in those times was unthinkable for a young lady. In the end, after long years of hard work and perseverance (坚持), she became America's most important woman artist and the internationally recognized leading woman painter of the time.64. What made Mary Cassatt's "struggle" to become a famous artist especially hard?A. She was a woman.B. Her father opposed her.C. She had no social position.D. She did not come from an artist's family.65. What do we know about Mary Cassatt's marriage (婚姻)?A. Her marriage failed because she never gave a thought to her husband and family.B. She never married because she did not want to be just a wife and mother.C. After marriage she decided to give up her husband rather than her career (事业).D. She did not marry because for a lady of her social position to marry below her was unthinkable.66. What do we know about Robert Cassatt's character from the text?A. He was a cruel (冷酷的)man.B. He was a stubborn (固执的) man.C. He knew nothing about art.D. He knew little about his daughter.67. As we can learn from the text, which of the following was generally consideredthe most important in the life of a woman in the U.S in Mary Cassatt's times?A. MoneyB. Career.C. MarriageD. CourageDMan's First real inventions, and one of the most important inventions in history, was the wheel. All transportation and machine in the world depend on it.The wheel is the simplest yet but perhaps the most remarkable (值得注意的) of all inventions. Because there are no wheels in nature—no living thing was ever created with wheels. How, then, did man come to invent the wheel?Perhaps some early hunters found that they could roll the carcass (尸体) of a heavy animal through the forest on log more easily than they could carry it. However, the logs themselves weighed a lot.It must have taken a great prehistoric (史前的) thinker to imagine two thin slices (薄片) of log connected at their centers by a strong stick, this would roll along just as the logs did and axle came into being, and with them the first carts.68. The wheel is important because _______.A. it was man’s first real inventionB. all transportation depends on itC. every machine depends on itD. both B and C69. The wheel is called _______.A. simpleB. complicatedC. strangeD. unusual70. It was remarkable of man to invent the wheel because ______.A. it led to many other inventionsB. man had no use for it thenC. there were no wheels in natureD. all of the above71. This selection says that the first wheel may have been a ______.A. ground piece of stoneB. heavy logC. piece of mentalD. slice of logEThe Oscars,or to give them their proper name,“The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Awards of Merit〞,are awards given to people who work in specific areas of the film industry. Actors and directors, costume(服装)designers and songwriters,make-up artists and sound engineers, among others, all have the chance to win an Oscar. The awards themselves are small statuettes(小雕像),around 34cm tall and weighing just over 3.5 kg.The golden statuettes are all the same—they show a man(with no clothes on!)holding a sword and standing on a reel of film.Sadly for the winner, the statue is not solid gold, but just goldplated. In actual value it is only worth around $250.However,although the statuette itself is not worth very much, winning one can be worth millions of dollars to the film studios.Winning an Oscar means that the worldtop film makers liked your work.It is the best publicity any film can get.If a film can have “Ac ademy Award Winner〞under its title, many more people will go to see it.The Academy was first formed in May 1927,and the awards have been given every year since then. This ceremony, when the awards are presented to the winners,is the highlight of the Hollywood calendar. It is the most glamorous(富有魅力的)and star-studded(星光灿烂的)evening of the whole year, and is shown on television in 90 countries around the world and watched by over 500 million people.Everyone who is famous in the film world attends the awards ceremony. Most arrive in huge limousines, wearing wonderful clothes. The Oscar ceremony is the one night when Hollywood really is as glamorous as it appears. For the first few years of the Academy, the Academy Awards themselves were simply called “The Statuettes〞.There are various stories which explain why they were at last given the nickmane “Oscars〞.The most popular is that the Academy librarian,Margaret Herrick, exclaimed when she saw the golden statuette,“He looks just like my Uncle Oscar!〞and the name stuck.W hatever the reason,it is certainly easier to say “Oscar〞,than to say “Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Awards of Merit〞,so the little golden man is now on a first name basis with everyone.55.The passage is really about________________.B.an award in the film industryC.an award ceremonyD.a famous film star,Oscar56.One story says that the Oscars are named after________________.A.Oscar HammersteinB.the man who invented themAcademy librarian’s uncle D.o ne of the “Oscar〞winners57.The awards were first simply called________________.Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Awards of MeritC.Uncle OscarsD.The Statuettes58.A reader can learn from the text that________________.A.only actors can have the chance to win OscarsB.an Oscar is made completely of goldC.winning an Oscar is worth millions of dollars to film studiosD.the Academy Awards are given every four years59.The best title for the passage would be________________.A.Everybody’s Favorite UncleB.Great American FilmsC.Winning is Not ImportantD.History of Film IndustryⅤ短文改错〔总分值10分〕第四节短文改错〔共10小题;每题2分,总分值20分〕I have many interests to keep me from bored, but 76. __________playing the guitar, cycling and cooking are that I enjoy 77. __________ most. 2018版高考英语一轮复习外研版练习:必修3 Module 2 含答案 精品

第一部分必修三Module 2Ⅰ.阅读理解A(2016·江西赣州十三县市高三期中联考)导学号58082255In modern society there is a great deal of argument about competition. Some value it highly, believing that it is responsible for social progress and prosperity (繁荣). Others say that competition is bad; that it sets one person against another; that it leads to unfriendly relationship between people.I have taught many children who held the belief that their self-worth relied on how well they performed at tennis and other skills. For them, playing well and winning are often life-and -death affairs. In their single-minded pursuit(追求)of success, the development of many other human qualities is sadly forgotten. However, while some seem to be lost in the desire to succeed, others take an opposite attitude. In a culture which only values the winner and pays no attention to the ordinary players, they strongly blame competition. Among those who are against competition are young people who have suffered under competitive pressures from their parents or society. Teaching these young people, I often observe in them a desire to fail. They seem to seek failure by not trying to win or achieve success. By not trying, they always have an excuse: “I may have lost, but it doesn't matter because I really did n't try.” What is not usually admitted by them is the belief that if they had really tried and lost, that would mean a lot.Such a loss would be a measure of their worth. Clearly, this belief is the same as that of true competitors who try to prove themselves. Both are based on the mistaken belief that one's self-respect relies on how well one performs in comparison with others. Both are afraid of not being valued. How will you educate him? What role will he play in the world?According to Darwin’s theory of evolution of the species, we are a competitive species and one survives by adapting itself biologically to various environments through various ways. Competition was a resource useful for the progress of society and for the survival of human beings.Today, however, the challenges are different. The 21st century is a computer science age, but there are environmental imbalances, deaths of thousands of children every day by starvation and countless epidemics (流行病). Therefore, it is important that the philosophy of preparing our children for competition and power be replaced by one of preparing them for love and cooperation (合作).The earth is a unique (独一无二的) home to us all. The ecological balance has to be pursued (追求) and this pursuit shows the internal balance of each living being. We must educate our children so that they want to protect nature and thus to protect the opportunity to make themselves more powerful and able in society. Our children have to learn that we don’t need to practice actions that benefit only our homeland while all other countries are destroyed. The destruction of other countries and lives leads to the impossibility of the future existence of the place we call home.It imbalances the ecosystem and shades the hope of a better future. We would not show hate to a flower, grabbing it and throwing it to the floor and stepping on it. It would be foolish! But we are insensitive to the sight of a homeless person thrown to the ground and pretend it's not our problem! Competition has led us to a state of total insensibility! Therefore, we must teach our children that the main necessity of men is love. Love is being good to ourselves, others and nature.( )8. According to Paragraph 2,competition is ________.A. interestingB. beneficialC. unnecessaryD. ineffective( )9. Why should we prepare children for cooperation in the 21st century?A. We are faced with new challenges.B. Many diseases are threatening people.C. They will live in a more competitive society.D. Environmental imbalance has caused many deaths.( )10. What is the benefit of keeping an ecological balance?A. It will help keep our internal balance.B. Our kids will have more chances to succeed.C. It will help make our future existence possible.D. Our kids will have a better natural environment.( )11. What is the purpose of this text?A. To suggest an education of love and cooperation.B. To explain the role competition plays in education.C. To introduce ways of helping children overcome fears.D. To explain why competition and cooperation should coexist.DNatasha, 19, is a sophomore (二年级学生) at Baylor University in Texas. 必修第三册Unit2Ⅰ.阅读理解AThewaywedothingsroundhereSome years ago,I was hired by an American bank.I received a letter from the head of the Personnel Department thatstarted,“Dear John,I am quite pleased that you have decided to join us.” That “quite” saddened me.I thought he was saying “we’re kind of pleased you decided to join us although I wish we had hired someone else.” Then I discovered that in American English “quite” sometimes means “very”,while in British English it means “fairly”.So the first lesson about working in other countries is to learn the language and by that I don’t just mean the words people speak. It is body language, dress, manners, ideas and so on.The way people do things highlights many of the differences we see between cultures. Some of these differences may be only on thesurface—dress, food and hours of work—while others may be deeperand take longer to deal with.Mostly,it is just a question of getting used to the differences and accepting them, like the climate, while getting on with business. Some of the differences may be an improvement.People are more polite;the service is better;you ask for something to be done and it happens without having to ask again. However, other differences can be troubling, like punctuality. If you invite people to a party at 7 o’clock, your guests will consider it polite to turn up ee in Germany, five minutes early in the American Midwest,an hour early in Japan,15 minutes afterwards in the UK,up to an hour afterwards in Italy and some time in the evening in Greece.I prefer not to use the word “late” because there is nothing wrong with the times people arrive. It is simply the accepted thing to do in their own country.1.The author was unhappy as mentioned in paragraph 1 because he thought .A.the American bank similar to Maori, notably in the naming of numbers.Evidence gleaned by archaeologists(考古学家) shows an ancient link between the peoples of Australasia and Taiwan, with the native language of Taiwan having similarities to the prehistoric Australasian language.Confused by Maori place names and customs when she first moved to New Zealand,Song Lam spent eight years researching and three years writing her book,TheMaoriofNewZealand, which is believed to be the first Chinese-language publication to include Maori words, values and customs. The 120-page book, including 10 pages ofphotos and maps, describes
