temperature is at it speak. For some people the peak comes during the forenoon. For others it comes in the after o on or evening. No one has discovered why this is so,but it leads to such familiar monologues(自言白语)as:”Get up,John! You'll be late for work again!”The possible explanation to the trouble is that John is a this temperature-and-energy peak in the evening.Much family quarrelling ends when husbands and wives realize what these energy cycles mean, and which cycle each member of the family has.You can’t change your energy cycle, but you can learn to make your life fit it better.Habit can help,Dr.Kleitman believes.Maybe you're sleepy in the evening but feel you must stay up late anyway.Counteract(对抗)your cycle to some extent by habitually staying up later than you want to.If your energy is low in the morning but you have an important job to do early in the day, rise before your usual hour. This wont change your cycle, but you'll get up steam and work better at your low point.Get off to as low start which saves your energy.Get up with a leisurely yawn and stretch.Sit on the edge of the bed a minute before putting your feet on the floor.Avoid the troublesome search for clean clothes by laying them out the night before.Whenever possible,do routine work in the afternoon and save tasks requiring more energy or concentration for your sharper hours.76.If a person finds getting 2020年陕西专升本公共英语模拟练习题三套
2020年陕西专升本公共英语模拟练习题三套2020年陕西专升本公共英语模拟练习题(一)1、I agree with most of what you said,but I don’t agree with______.A.everythingB.anythingC.somethingD.nothing解析:正确把握语境有时孤立地看留空格的那个句子,好象多个答案都可以,但与上下句的意思联系起来,就会发现问题。
因此,做题时一定要把握语境。
此题答案选A。
B答案的意思是I don’t agree with anything等于I agree with2、If an excellent Chinese novel is translated into English,______means many more people in the world can enjoy it.A.asB.whichC.whatD.that解析:查看有无连词若经查实,前后的确是两个句子,就要看其中一个分句是否已经用了连词。
若已经用了连词,一般不选连词,若没有用连词,就一定要选连词。
此题已有连词If,所以此题选D,若没有If,就选B,which引导一个非限制性定语从句。
3、He wrote five novels,two of______translated into English.A.itB.themC.whichD.that解析:检查有无谓语有时看似有两个句子,于是就选连词,正好掉进命题人设计的陷阱。
若在translated前加上were,were translated 就是谓语,这时就选连词which。

Translate the following paragraph into Chinese: (10 points) Rummaging through the fruit and veg section of my local supermarket, reading the country of origin labels, I am bewildered by the geography of it all. That the fruits of the earthshould all be laid out on tidy shelves in this provincial corner of Britain would have been unthinkable a few years ago, yet now it is taken for granted.Once strange and exotic fruits that only the rich could afford, if not now part of everyones diet, are certainly part of our everydayshopping experience. So much so that instead of focusing on the novel, I am drawn to the commonplace. Here, among the humble vegetables, something strange and disturbing is going on.V. Reading Comprehension (38 points)Clearly if we are to participle in the society in which we live we must communicate with other people. A great deal of communicating is performed on a person-to-person basis by the simple means of speech. If we travel in buses, buy things in shops, or eat in restaurants, we are likely to have conversations where we give information or opinions, receive news or comment, and very likely have our views challenged by other members ofsociety.Face-to-face contact is by no means the only form of communication and during the last two hundred years the art of has become of one of the dominating factors ofcontemporary society. Two things, above others, have caused the enormous growth of the communication industry. Firstly, inventiveness has led to advances in printing, telecommunications, photography, radio and television. Secondly, speed has revolutionized the transmission and reception of communications so that local news often takes a back seat to national news, which itself is often almost eclipsed by international news.No longer is the possession of information confined to a privileged minority. In the last century the wealthy man with his own library was indeed fortunate, but today there are public libraries. Forty years ago people used to flock to the cinema, but now far more people sit at home and turn on the TV to watch a programme that is being channeled into millions of homes.Communication is no longer merely concerned with the transmission of information. The modern communication industry influences the way people live in society and broadens their horizons by allowing access to information, education and entertainment. The printing, broadcasting and advertising industries are all involved with informing, educating and entertaining.Although a great deal of the material communicated by the mass media is very valuable to the individual and to the society of which he is apart, the vast modern network of communications is open to abuse. However, the mass media are with us for better, for worse, and there is no turning back.1. In the first paragraph the writer emphasizes the _________ offace-to-face contact insocial settings.A natureB limitationC usefulnessD creativity2. It is implied in the passage that_______A local news used to be the only source of informationB local news still takes a significant placeC national news is becoming more popularD international news is the fastest transmitted news3. which of the following statement is INCORRECT?A To possess information used to be a privilegeB Public libraries have replaced private librariesC Communication means more than transmissionD Information influences ways of life and thinking4.From the last paragraph we can infer that the writer is________.A indifferent to the harmful influence of the mass mediaB happy about the drastic changes in the mass mediaC pessimistic about the future of the mass mediaD concerned about the wrong use of the mass mediaI am one of the many city people who are always saying that giventhe choice we would prefer to live in the country away from the dirt andnoise of a large city. I have managed to convince myself thatit werent for my job I would immediately head out for the open spaces and go back to nature in some sleepy village buried in the country. But howrealistic is the dream?Cities can be frightening places. The majority of the populationlive in massive tower blocks, noisy, dirty and impersonal. The sense of belonging to a community tends to disappear when you live fifteen floors up. All you can see from your window is sky, or other blocks of flats. Children become aggressive and nervouscooped up at home all day, with nowhere to play; their mothers feel isolated from the rest of the world. Strangely enough whereas in the past the inhabitants of one street all knew each other, nowadays people on the same floor in tower blocks dont even say hello to each other.Country life, on the other hand, differs from this kind of isolated existence in that a sense of community generally binds the inhabitants of small villages together. People have the advantage of knowing that there is always someone to turn to when they need help. But country life has disadvantages too. While it is true that you may be among friends in a village, it is also true that you are cut off from the existing and important events that take place in cities. Theres little possibility of going to a new show or the latest movie. Shopping becomes a major problem, andfor anything slightly out of the ordinary you have to go on and expedition to the nearest large town. The city-dweller who leaves forthe country is often oppressed by a sense of unbearable stillness and quiet. What, then, is the answer? The country has the advantage of peaceand quiet, but suffers from the disadvantage of being cut off; the city breeds a feeling of isolation, and constant noise batters the senses. But one of its main advantages is that you are at the center of things, and that life doesnt come to an end at half-past nine at night. Some people have found (or rather bought) a compromise between the two; they have expressed their preference for the quiet life by leaving the suburbs and moving to villages within commuting distance of large cities. They generally have about as much sensitivity as the plastic flowers they leave behind they are polluted with strange ideas about change and improvement which they force on to the unwilling original inhabitants of the villages. What then of my dreams of leaning on a cottage gate and murmuring morning to the locals as they pass by? Im keen on the idea, but you see theres my cat, T oby, Im not at all sure that he would take to all that fresh air and exercise in the long grass, I mean, can you see him mixing with all those hearty males down the farm? No, he would rather have the electric imitation-coal fire any evening.5. We get the impression from the first paragraph that the authorA used to live in the countryB used to work in the cityC works in the cityD lives in the country6. In the authors opinion, the following may cause city people to be unhappy EXCEPT A a strong sense of fear B lack ofcommunicationC housing conditionsD a sense of isolation7. The passage implies that it is easy to buy the following thingsin the country EXCEPT A daily necessities B fresh fruitsC designer clothesD fresh vegetables8. According to the passage, which of the following adjectives best describes those people who work in large cities and live in villages?A OriginalB QuietC ArrogantD Insensitive9. Do you think the author will move to the country?A Yes, he will do soB No, he will not do soC It is difficult to tellD He is in two mindsIdeas about education are changing in the United States. My name is Lucy, and I'm a 10-year-old girl who loves learning new things, especially in English class. Today, I want to tell you all about the exciting adventure I had with the 2020 Shaanxi Province English Test for Upgrading from Junior College to Undergraduate level! It all started when my older cousin, who's in junior college, asked me for help practicing for this big test. At first, I was a bit nervous because it sounded really difficult. But my cousin promised to take me out for ice cream if I helped her, so I couldn't say no!The first part of the test was all about reading comprehension. There were a few passages about different topics, and we had to answer questions based on what we read. One passage was about the importance of protecting the environment. Here's a sample question and answer:Question: According to the passage, what are some ways we can help reduce pollution?A) Ride a bike or take public transportation instead of driving.B) Turn off lights and electronics when not in use.C) Recycle paper, plastic, and metal products.D) All of the above. The correct answer is D) All of the above. The passage talked about how simple actions like conserving energy, usingeco-friendly transportation, and recycling can all help reduce our carbon footprint and protect the planet we live on.Next up was the listening section, where we had to listen to audio clips and answer questions based on what we heard. One clip was about a girl describing her favorite summer vacation. Here's a sample question:Question: Where did the girl go for her summer vacation?A) The beachB) The mountainsC) A theme parkD) Her grandparents' houseIf you guessed D) Her grandparents' house, you're right! The girl talked about spending her summer at her grandparents' place and all the fun activities she did there, like baking cookies and playing in the backyard. After the listening part, we moved on to the writing section. We had to write a short essay on a given topic. One of the topics was "My Favorite Book and Why I Like It." I wrote about how my favorite book is "Charlotte's Web" because it's a heartwarming story about friendship and loyalty, and it teaches valuable lessons about appreciating life.Lastly, there was the speaking section, where we had to answer questions and have a conversation with the examiner. One of the questions was "What do you like to do in your free time?" I talked about how I enjoy playing sports like soccer and basketball, as well as reading books and spending time with my family.Overall, the test was challenging but also a lot of fun! It was like a big adventure where I got to explore different aspects of the English language. My cousin was really impressed with how well I did, and she treated me to a huge ice cream sundae as a reward. If you ever have to take a big English test like this one, my advice is to practice as much as you can, but also try to enjoy the process of learning new things. Don't be afraid to make mistakes – that's how we grow and improve. And most importantly, believe in yourself! With hard work and a positive attitude, you can conquer any challenge that comes your way. Thanks for joining me on this exciting English test adventure! Until next time, keep practicing, keep learning, and never stop exploring the wonderful world of language and knowledge.篇2My Big English Test Adventure!Hi everyone! My name is Xiaoming and I'm 10 years old. I just had the craziest adventure taking a really important English test. Let me tell you all about it!It was a sunny Saturday morning when my mom woke me up really early. "Time to get ready for your big English test!" she said cheerfully. I was so nervous! This was the 2020 Shaanxi exam to upgrade from junior college to a university degree. It was going to be super hard.I put on my lucky red shirt and blue shorts, had a big breakfast of congee and douzhi, and my dad drove me to the testing center. There were lots of other students my age there, all looking just as nervous as me. We had to go through security checks before going into the big room with rows and rows of desks. It felt just like being in a movie! Finally, it was time to begin. The proctor passed out the test booklets and I couldn't believe how thick it was! Section 1 was listening comprehension. The recording played dialogues and passages and then asked multiple choice questions. I struggled a bit but did my best to choose the right answers.Next up was reading comprehension in Section 2. There were long essays to read and comprehension questions after each one. I read very carefully but some of the vocabulary was really hard. Luckily I used context clues and made my best guess when I wasn't totally sure of a word's meaning. Then came Section 3 which was writing. We had to write a short essay responding to a prompt. I wrote about my favorite hobbies of playing badminton, video games, and reading comic books. I made sure to use lots of descriptive adjectives and explain my reasons really well. After a short break for lunch, it was time for the grammar section. There were tons of questions testing parts of speech, verb tenses, conditional sentences, and more. Grammar has always been my weakness in English so I had to work extra hard on this part. I tried my best to spot the errors and correct them properly. The final section was translation between Chinese and English. We had to translate passages in both directions, capturing the meaning accurately. It was pretty tricky since idioms and expressions often don't translate directlyword-for-word. I relied on seeing the big picture and conveying the overall message.Whew, after 4 long hours, I was finally done! My brain felt like mush. All the other students looked just as exhausted as I did.I couldn't wait to get home, take a nap, and just veg out in front of the TV.A couple weeks later, I got my score report in the mail. I was elated to see that I passed! All that hard work had paid off. Now I'll be able to go straight into a four-year university program when I graduate junior college. My parents were so proud of me.Even though it was crazy difficult, I'm really glad I challenged myself and took that big exam. It proved that I can take on tough tasks and persevere. I have a new confidence in my English abilities now.So that's the story of my big English test adventure! It was an epic journey that stretched my limits. But I emerged victorious with new skills and belief in myself. Who knows where this will lead next? Maybe one day I'll even become an English teacher myself. For now, I'm just thrilled to be moving ahead on my educational path. The future looks bright!Example Questions and Answers:Listening ComprehensionWhat did the woman say she wanted to do this weekend?A. Go shoppingB. Visit her grandparentsC. Catch a movieD. I have an older brother who just took a really important English test to try to get into a good university. It's called the Shaanxi English test for students upgrading from junior college. He studied sooooo hard for it! Let me tell you all about the test he took. The first section was listening comprehension. There were conversations between people and the test takers had to answer multiple choice questions about what was said. My brother said one conversation was between a man and woman making dinner plans. The woman couldn't go out Thursday because she had a work event. For another conversation, he had to listen for specific details like dates, times, and locations that were mentioned. Then there were some longer listens like lectures or recorded passages. He had to take notes and answer questions proving he understood the main ideas and important details. One was a lecture about the history of the Renaissance art period.Another passage was about solutions to climate change. Not easy stuff! Good listening skills are super important on this test.Next up was the reading section. So many reading passages! My brother's brain was spinning after this part. There were shorter passages like advertisements, emails, and articles from magazines. He had to identify the main ideas and find specific details mentioned in those. Lots of vocabulary and idiom questions too based on how words were used in context. But the hard stuff was the longer academic reading passages from textbooks and journals. My brother said topics ranged from biology and psychology to history and culture studies. The questions were really in-depth, like analyzing the author's reasoning and defining tough vocabulary words from the context. You have to be such a great reader to do well on this part! After reading was the writing section. Test takers had to write responses to two prompts. One prompt asked my brother to describe a memorable experience and explain why it was significant to him. He wrote about the time our family took a road trip out west and we saw the amazing red rock formations. Such a cool experience! For the other writing prompt, he had to take a stance on an issue and build an argument with examples and reasoning. His topic was whether elementary schools should have longer school days. He argued against it because he thinks kids that age need more time for free play, sports, and family time after their academic studies. Solid reasoning if you ask me!The last part was the speaking section, which must have been so nerve-wracking! Test takers had to give spoken responses into a recording device based on prompts they saw. One prompt asked my brother to describe his favorite holiday tradition and why it is meaningful. Another had him look at a graph showing data and summarize the main points in a speech.Phew, I'm exhausted just talking about all that! It was a marathon 3-hour test with so many difficult questions across all the English skill areas. No wonder my brother looked like a zombie after taking it. Luckily he felt pretty good about how he did. His hard work studying every night really paid off.I'll wrap this up by revealing the sample questions and answers that my brother shared with me after the test. This will give you an idea of what was on there:Listening Comprehension Sample:Listen to the conversation about travel plans. What did the speakers decide to do?A. Take the trainB. Rent a carC. I felt a little nervous seeing the huge crowd, but reminded myself that this was just supposed to be a fun learning experience. The first section was listening comprehension. The audio started playing stories and conversations in English. I concentrated really hard to understand every word. Some parts were quite difficult, but I'd had lots of practice listening to English audiobooks and watching movies, so I managed okay. For the questions, I filled in the blanks and circled the correct answers. Phew, that section was intense!Next up was reading comprehension. We had to read a few longer passages and answer questions about the main ideas, details, vocabulary words and more. One passage was about environmental protection which I found really interesting. Another one described different festivals around the world - my favorite topic! The questions were pretty challenging but I've always been a bookworm, so the reading part felt comfortable to me.After a short break, it was time for the writing section. We had to write a letter to a friend about our summer vacation plans.I just imagined I was writing to my pen pal Ali from Canada andthe words flowed easily. I made sure to use a variety of vocabulary, correct spelling and grammar. Writing has always been one of my strengths. The last part was oral English. One by one, we had to go into a room to speak with two examiners. I barely had any time to feel nervous before it was my turn. The examiners asked me to describe my family members, talk about my hobbies and ambitions, explain some simple situations using pictures, and answer some follow-up questions. Even though I was a little shy at first, I tried my best to speak as clearly and naturally as possible. Phew, I'm just glad that part is over! While we waited for the results, my sister bought us both ice cream cones from a street vendor outside. She seemed impressed that I'd actually attempted the entire exam. I told her it was just for the fun of challenging myself with something new.A few weeks later, I couldn't believe it when the results came in the mail - I'd somehow managed to pass the exam! My parents were amazed and my sister gave me a big high-five. I don't plan on going to university just yet since I'm only in 5th grade. There were questions asking what day they were traveling and where they were going. I think I got most of those right. Then there was a conversation between two kids arguing about whose turn it was to choose the game they would play. Just like me and my bratty little brother fight all the time! The girl accused the boy of always picking games he likes. But he said that wasn't true and that she always quit halfway through anyway. Kids, am I right? Can't live with them, can't live without them! Those squabbling questions were pretty easy for me.But then they played a recording about a science experiment that was testing different materials. It had all these big vocabulary words I didn't know like "absorbent" and"impermeable." I just had to make my best guess on those ones. Listening is probably my worst section. After the listening part, we had to do a bunch of reading comprehension passages. One passage was about the history of ice cream! Did you know that ancient Greeks used to enjoy a frozen treat made from honey and fruits in the snow? No way, my mind was blown! The reading had fun facts like how ice cream cones were invented at the 1904 World's Fair. By the end I was so hungry for a scoop of chocolate chunk!Another reading was about this famous artist named Kandinsky who helped start the abstract art movement. I'm not gonna lie, I zoned out a little during that one. All the art words like "avant-garde" and "non-representational" went right over my head. I just circled C for all those questions when I got stuck. Oops!Vocabulary is one of my strengths though. They gave us a list of words and we had to pick the RIGHT definition from four choices. Words like "flabbergasted" and "unscathed." For flabbergasted I picked the one that meant really surprised or shocked. And for unscathed I chose not injured at all. Vocabulary words are fun, it's like learning a new secret code! Then we had to write a short essay comparing and contrasting two diferent holidays - Lunar New Year and Christmas. I wrote all about the awesome food for both celebrations. Families get together and eat their faces off! For Lunar New Year there are amazing dumpling feasts. And for Christmas, my favorite is frosted sugar cookies that my grandma makes. Writing isn't too bad as long as you have a good outline. The worst part was the grammar section at the very end. Picking out errors in the sentences and fixing them up. Why do they have to make English so confusing with all the tenses, apostrophes, and comma rules? Like "its" without an apostrophe means "it is" but "it's" WITH an apostrophe means "it is." Makes no sense! I'm still a little shaky on when to use "who" versus "whom" too. Let's just say I didn't ace that grammar part...Well, that's my full report on this crazy Shaanxi English test! I gave it my best shot but man was it tough. Guess I'll just have to wait and see if I passed or not. Keeping my fingers crossed! If you ever have to take a big test like this, study hard and don't leave anything blank. And maybe bring some snacks to re-energize halfway through. Frosted animal crackers are my favorite test fuel! Thanks for listening to me ramble on. Time for this kiddo to go play some video games and veg out. Don't you wish you could be a kid again sometimes? We'll catch you later, alligators!。

But what is Homestay? And what makes it so popular? Homestay means living with a family,or“host family”as we say. There are three ways of doing it:choose to learn English in a language school near to your Homestay location:have your English classes in the house with a member of the family who is a qualified teacher; select not to have classes at all when you visit——a popular choice if you want to do the tourist thing for example. Even in their busy summer period the organizations that arrange the Homestays will always try to place you with the most suitable host family to match your requirements.Placement(安置)organizations think about location, interests, language level, eating requirements, allergies (过敏)and other requests you may have. Though prices vary according to your needs, good quality Homestay accommodation can be relatively economical--and although you may be charged an extra amount of money if you want your Homestay in or near the city center.Even if you stay further out,you can expect your journey into the center not to exceed 30 minutes. Not only does Homestay accommodation represent value for money, it also gives you an excellent opportunity to practice English with your host family. This is a very important extra for students who like to speak as much English as possible. But if you plan to learn English, why not have your English classes in your host family. There’s no better way to learn English than this—the perfect combination of learning and accommodation combined with the cultural experience ! {TS}Homestay is an ideal choice for students who __________.(单选题)A. plan to visit relativesB. want to stay at homeC. plan to study overseasD. want to learn statistics试题答案:C7、请填写最佳答案()(单选题)A. recentB. lateC. beginningD. last试题答案:B8、 If you__ stayed at home, this wouldnever have happened.(单选题)A. Changing a few old habits can make an impact on your energy bill, your comfort and the environment. Here are somehandy tips to make your house more energy-efficient. Lower the heat If your home has adjustable central heating, lowering the room temperature even slightly can make a difference. You may not feel it,but your wallet will. It is even more advisable to control temperatures at different times of the day. Hang clothes out to dry If the weather allows it,head outside and dry your laundry on a clothesline. The sunlight will help eliminate bacteria and dust. While clothes dryers get the job done faster, they also use up energy.By hanging your clothes out you’ll be cutting greenhouse gases by about three kilograms per load. Take advantage of natural light Installing large windows on the northern side of your house can help you make use of sunlight’s natural warmth. To stay cool indoors on hot summer days, install blinds(百叶窗) to block the heavy sun.Put your desk near the window, then you don’t need a lamp in the daytime. If you don´t use any sun tan oil when you´re in the sun, you will burn surprisinglyquickly. If you use an ordinary sun tan oil, you will protectyour skin to a lesser or greater degree. How much protection depends onthe"protection-factor number" on the bottle. Some oils block out so manyof the sun ´s rays and you can stay in the sun all day without burning but youwon´t go very brown, either. Bergasol will protect your skin like an ordinary sun tan oil. It also has a tan acceleratorthat speeds up the rate at which the sun activates the skin cells that producemelanin(黑色素). It is melanin that gives the skin itsbrown colour. Bergasol enables you to go brown faster,am as the days pass thedifference will become more obvious.Unfortunately, this special formulation isn´tCheap to prepare. So Bergasol is rather more expensive than ordinary sun tanoil. However, the price looksmore attractive as you do. Bergasoi It makes you go brown faster Protection Many people imagine that"cover-up" means you don´t get a tan. Nothing to show for yourholiday. Not so. With "cover-up", you can get brown if you want to. The point of"cover-up" is to protect your skin from the harmful rays of the sunwhich, according to the experts ,make your skinlook older. That´s what Solex Cover-up isallabout--protection for your skin. It has a Sun Protection Factor 8, which makesit suitable for anyone. Find out how it works for you by consulting the SolexSun Chart.
